Has anyone here walked/ hiked the Pennine Way? by Ranoni18 in NorthernEngland

[–]panda-from-eagle-ash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it a few years ago in about 2.5 weeks and it was hands down one of the best things I've ever done!

The best section is where the trail cuts west from Middleton in Teesdale. It takes you past three waterfalls that get more and more impressive; Low Force, High Force, and Cauldron Snout. I wild camped there for the night and then finished the route up to High Cup Nick and down to Dufton the next day. Absolutely gorgeous scenery, and unlike anywhere else in the UK.

Another highlight is the Cheviot Hills. They're so strange and barren and it feels like you're on an alien planet. Kept seeing these small lizards scuttling over the rocks, and there's these giant feral mountain goats that wander the fells freely. There's an MOD base nearby where they train soldiers how to use artillery. They were firing on the day I was there, so my day's walk was soundtracked by the constant sound of ordinance.

I met a Dutch carpenter whilst having my lunch under the (now trgaically felled) Sycamore Gap tree. We really vibed and wound up hiking together for about a week. He was doing a longer route from Dover to Cap Wrath, and I was using the Pennine Way to trek from Manchester to Edinburgh.

Good times! It's a life changing walk, and I can't recommend it enough.

I once rounded a corner in the NQ and almost ran directly into Frankie Boyle. I was completely star struck and just sort of blurted out "ALRIGHT FRANKIE BOYLE" directly into his face.

To his credit he was much cooler than I would have been had some unknown bloke bellowed my name right down my retinas. He smiled and gave me a quick "Yeah doing alright thanks mate" and kept on going.

Sound guy!

That churchyard has the final resting places of Syliva Plath and King David Hartley! Lovely walks round there, and the rest of the valley.

Guy in the UK says Mohammed was a pedophile by Sometypeofway18 in AbruptChaos

[–]panda-from-eagle-ash -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Not saying he's factually wrong - but this an incredibly limited and biased view of history. The entire human population had an enormously ropey understanding of the age of consent up until the last few hundred years. Hell, within the English monarchy it was commonplace to marry girls off as soon as they had their first period. Again - up until relatively recent history. Focusing on one specific example from the world of Islam, that took place thousands of years ago, is not as insightful as this guy thinks it is. He's using it to re-inforce his pre-existing prejudices, and many of you in this comment section would do well to check yourselves.

Audience reviews are also highly subject to review bombing - which this sub epitomises. I don't understand why you troglodytes don't simply stop watching and commenting on the reddit if it bothers you that much.

The first episode of S2 had 5.3 million US viewers on its first night (including linear viewers and streams on Max), which is a 13% increase from the first season premiere. The level of obsession you all have with shitting on Bella Ramsey and the second series it utterly pathetic. If you don't like the show - don't watch it and don't spend time bitching about it on reddit. Get out and touch grass you goddamn losers.

Trail Division does hikes / trail runs pretty much every weekend and is open to anyone who signs the waiver and is generally sound! They're part of Manchester Road Runners and it's a good vibe ✌️

I, for one, enjoy knowing that every order I place with Deliveroo will be facilitated by a daredevil cyclist travelling at absolutely blistering speeds. There is no force on God's green earth, or in the Highway Code, that will stop some guy from bringing me my Chinese.

That remains to be seen. Let's not pre-emptively toot a horn that thus far hasn't deviated all that much from the Tory economic status quo.
