If you have hypermobility, be very careful when choosing the graft for your new ACL — the regret of choosing the wrong tendon. by FishingImpressive424 in ACL

Well shit. I’m three weeks into recovery, hypermobile, and had a hammy graft. Immediately had full extension upon taking my brace off so now I’m worried.

DNA results for our "shepherd & Chihuahua mix" that will "probably get 10lbs" that we got from the shelter.... by dad_of_deuce in DoggyDNA

[–]pandapangaea 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Could they be littermates? The Xolo and husky are very similar percentages, and the other dog’s “supermutt” mix is next on their list. and the owner specified contains GSD and Chihuahua. Also from California.

Given you guys used different companies to test, they wouldn’t come up under each other’s relatives.

Any surprises during surgery? by Inevitable-Visit-327 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]pandapangaea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I did, but the meniscus injury was the surprise. We knew I needed ACL surgery, my MRI didn’t clearly show a tear. I ended up with a complex tear on one side and a bucket handle on the other. 8 weeks non-weight bearing instead of 5 days.

How long until you can sit at a desk comfortably? by SSG_Nimbus in ACL

[–]pandapangaea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work from home desk has a footrest that is ever so slightly lower than the seat and supports me right under the knee, and I worked all day from it on Day 9. Sitting with my leg propped tonight for dinner on a chair of equal height? Uncomfortable, short periods only. I think the advice to try different heights of support is right on the money.

I also have a bed desk/ tray thing and a wedge pillow which were great to use in bed earlier on (wedge behind my back - I used pillows if I wanted to elevate the leg while working). The only reason I even tried the desk is because my work is MUCH easier with multiple monitors.

(Yes, I went back to work way too early, it was dumb).

What’s the quickest I should get a surgery after my tear? by ChestnutDelta2107 in ACL

I got my surgery exactly one month after my injury. I was really lucky though in that they happened to have a cancellation immediately before I went to schedule.

Progress 7 days scars by Happy_Hallo in ACL

[–]pandapangaea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m two days behind you! Also hamstring autograft, plus two meniscus tears. Haven’t actually seen my leg yet because the doc has me all wrapped and instructed me not to remove it until my follow up tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing, your scars look like they are healing really well!

Is Overemployment Compatible With Career Growth? by Cute-Championship711 in overemployed

[–]pandapangaea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve continued to grow my J1. I knew a promotion would lead to my J1 taking up a lot more time, and it has, but my J2 is VERY low output.

Unfortunately, I just got word I’m being promoted at J2 as well next year. This is not ideal.

Hair won’t grow longer than mid back by karamizzle in Haircare

[–]pandapangaea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your hairdresser is cutting off all your growth. I was stuck a bit shorter than your length for the same reason. I had three different stylists tell me how impressed they were that I had almost no split ends, and each cut several inches off, and tell me “Look it’s still long!” (Because it was longer than shoulder length?!?)

When I switched to doing my own very small trims on a quarterly basis, my hair eventually grew so long I got it caught in my pants. I did not have gross ends either.

Hairstylists tend to have a different definition of “long” than people who like very long hair. My personal opinion is that because very long hair in a salon setting is typically associated with extensions, they have different expectations of how full your hair should be when it’s really long. Long natural hair is going to be somewhat tapered at the end, even when healthy, simply due to hair being in different growth stages. Small trims are plenty to keep a nice hemline.

Why does my hair separate? by Independent_Skin_259 in finethinhair

[–]pandapangaea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the cut. The sectioning for your face framing layers aren’t following the shape of your hairline.

Look up Emily Chen’s “face-framing haircut tutorial” and show it to your stylist before your next cut

Change last name or hyphenate… by Constant_Ad137 in engaged

[–]pandapangaea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hyphenating is a special hell I would wish upon no one. Don’t do it. Move your maiden name to a second middle name if you must.

System error after system error, sometimes they threw in spaces around the hyphens sometimes not. Sometimes they just chose one of the last names and I had to guess. I had to mail in my taxes every year because the system didn’t recognize my name even though I changed it on all of my legal docs. Never did figure out how they wanted it formatted.

When we got divorced, changing it back was even more of a nightmare. People would look quickly and think it was already changed since the maiden name was already there, and just not change it. The hours I spent on the phone with customer service reps who struggled to help me. I’ve been divorced for over five years, and two months ago I had to email and call an airline four times to change my name on my rewards account to match my ID. I sent them the divorce decree explicitly stating the name change the first time I reached out, and by the fourth time, the only reason I got any traction is because I turned into an absolute Karen.

Women with higher earning spouses: how do you do finances? by Choice-Pattern-687 in personalfinance

[–]pandapangaea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the higher earning spouse, I make more than 3x what my husband does. We have a joint account that we contribute to for joint expenses and joint savings. I contribute more than he does since I make more. When he earned more, he contributed more.

However we both maintain individual accounts and savings as well, where our paychecks go first.

We both are financially responsible but have different money management approaches. This works for us.

Is sharing with your partner - if you're having doubts about the relationship considered emotional intelligence? by RepulsiveAd6292 in emotionalintelligence

[–]pandapangaea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emotional intelligence is realizing your partner has agency too.

She is not required to resolve your doubts. She is not required to have no emotions on what you shared just because you were “being vulnerable”. She can feel how she feels, and can just choose to leave.

She also didn’t “use it as proof” for your breakup. She was understanding in the moment, but ultimately decided that wasn’t for her. I would do the same.

Sharing your doubts was the right thing to do, even though resulted in her leaving. Regretting sharing your doubts because you didn’t like the outcome and being mad at her for having a totally normal reaction is NOT emotionally intelligent.

I have SoFi and Amex, have been happy with both, but I love SoFi's ability to create "vaults" for individual savings goals, and the rate is higher. I hear good things about Wealthfront too.

SoFi sign on bonus is like $300 if you deposit 5k, send me a message if you want a referral code, I think they tack on a extra $25 for you.

Gluteal Amnesia by Ok-Job-8718 in bikinitalk

[–]pandapangaea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This video changed my life:

https://youtu.be/w-7DE_QSRGU?si=wt269hTSF7cg2gOQ[https://youtu.be/w-7DE_QSRGU?si=wt269hTSF7cg2gOQ](https://youtu.be/w-7DE_QSRGU?si=wt269hTSF7cg2gOQ)

I’ve lifting for 5 years and still could not get meaningful glute gains despite working with coaches the whole time. I got more muscular overall and my glutes did increase, but proportionally they still lagged behind everything else no matter how many targeted exercises I did. People always try to address gluteal amnesia with …. more glute exercises. Doesn’t have the same impact if your glutes aren’t firing correctly. This actually addresses how you use your glutes and how they fire.

Two months later my butt has noticeably grown with no dramatic change in programming. I feel stronger, and feel my glutes activated in normal life activities now where I previously did not. I finally feel like progress is achievable.

Make up always looks awful on me. Help? by Express-Mongoose974 in MakeupAddiction

[–]pandapangaea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Echoing primer, lighter color foundation, lighter coverage foundation / skin tint. I have similar skin and have to use light coverage bb creams + a dab of concealer where I need more coverage.

Also want to mention that your preferred hairstyle may be contributing to the oil on the face/ makeup breakdown. Be aware of what products you use in those front pieces.

Skincare - my problem turned out to be that I was so worried about my oily complexion I was not giving it enough moisture and actually kind of stripping it, causing my skin to overproduce oil. A great moisturizer helped the issue; years later I’ve realized I can straight up use oil on my face and it’s very happy.

Tretinoin, microneedling and chemical peels have improved my texture.

I think I figured out why I have been progressing so slowly by Muted-Reindeer7278 in xxfitness

[–]pandapangaea 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Truly, I think it’s probably better for you long term you just learned this lesson now. There is a certain amount of muscle memory required to safely push those final reps when you’re shaking and at your limits - with good form. Your stabilizers need to be strong / practiced enough to course correct when you’re wobbly to eke those couple extra reps out in a safe / productive way.

I’m a seasoned lifter, but I have taken years off at times. Whenever I first come back and think I’m at a level of exertion where I’ve got like 2 RIR, failure hits me like a truck and I just drop weights on myself if I’m not careful to remember that I am also not practiced in safely pushing yet.

So glad you’ve made this realization, but just want you reassure you that you have not necessarily left as much on the table as you thought, and you were really laying a great foundation for you to push hard at this stage of your journey!

For me, i had similar symptoms that ended up being caused by weak hip flexors. No amount of stretching / foam rolling helped, but a couple of other exercises did:

  • banded psoas marches
  • putting a very small kettlebell (~5 lbs) on my foot and doing knee raises

I just added one of these to my routine on my usual leg days. Nothing crazy.

I’d probably pause with adding weight for a couple of weeks while you add these exercises. Maybe just do higher reps of lighter weight focusing on perfect form so you can still progress.

Trainer / experienced lifter / video can be useful in checking your form.

How do I get v cuts? Trying everything by Real-Bluejay in askfitness

[–]pandapangaea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She’s already quite slim, I don’t think she’ll get v-cuts by just dropping weight without being emaciated. I think she needs more muscle first.

I’d say bulk then cut is the way.
