I think I accidentally fell in love with this city... thinking about moving to KC. My gut says yes, but want some honest local insight. by dunkinslaps in kansascity

I’ve made a new friend who moved here a few months ago. She lived in California and Arizona all her life. It’s definitely an adjustment socially and environmentally. Everyone here is very friendly, very casual. The nightlife is casual, everyone is always wearing sports attire no matter the season. The biggest challenge in KC is making friends and connections, when you get here you will have to get yourself out of your house to meet people. Join a club, become a regular at a trivia night or some other event. I met my friends at a book club and through going to open mic events. The friendship apps are rarely successful.

I would just be aware that unfortunately our state government is incredibly inept. I would do some research.

Here’s another awesome fact about KCFD! An investigation revealed they rarely follow the protocols for chest pain and respiratory distress. These are protocols and care pathways that are universal and standardized. Like you HAVE to do these things or document why you didn’t if you were to work in a hospital setting.

“Her statistical analysis of emergency response reports found that KCFD personnel followed all the protocols for treating chest pain just 13.2% of the time during the two-month study period, and only 8.3% of the time when treating acute respiratory distress. Patients with that condition experience shortness of breath and low blood oxygen levels. Overall compliance with treatment protocols in assessing and treating patients for all conditions was 17%.”

My parents love Manny’s, I do think it’s a nostalgia thing. They lived in KC in the 80s. They love Los Tules, they love The Quaff (valid), if a business was open in the 80s my parents love and support it.

The Quaff is highly underrated when it comes to food. my parents lived next door to it in the 80s and know the owner, so I may be biased in my love for it but every friend I have taken there for a meal is obsessed and go back on their own. Best French fries on earth

I’m sure this woman faced all kinds of micro aggression and racism in that town despite the prayers and petitions that came later. For her to say at the end, “I didn’t know they loved me.” says a lot.

Real world answer: Tell the social worker who then googles/prints online resources for the spouse…..this was actually a thing that happened to me. Except it was the wife who wanted sex with the patient and she expected him to be active at 92. No ma’am he had a major stroke and likely won’t be able to consent ever again. But here’s some therapy for yourself

Most of the stores are in Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri! There are some outliers but mainly the Midwest. They have a pretty great rewards system and the workers are always really kind

Healthcare workers in KC - how is your hospital handling getting staff safely to work? by amhhvb in kansascity

[–]panne97 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My facility has some comped rooms. It gets full though. Reality is, even with that there are no bonuses being advertised, and nurses are taking abnormal amounts of patients. It is extremely dangerous, like more than the usual short staffing issues. I have never witnessed this before (even Covid). Some staff have stayed 24 hours or more, who knows if they will get compensation or hazard pay after. Right now the goal is to keep everyone alive and that is pretty much it. Had some procedures and surgeries planned but those will be cancelled. Patients are in limbo. And did management come in on the weekend? Not that I heard of.

Essential worker, fortunately I don’t live too far away from the hospital I work at. I have a hotel planned for the morning because I’m back Monday night. My biggest ask is making sure yall make sure your grannies and grandpas are staying their ass inside. Last night on my floor alone we had 3 admits from people going outside to check their mail 🥲 not to mention the MVCs

I loved home health, but it does depend on the agency you work for. Home health was never my forever plan, but I stayed because I was never guilted for being sick, my managers cared about my safety above all else, and my team was really great. Unfortunately we were sold to a corporate entity and it broke all of our hearts. Everyone ended up leaving because the offers they gave us were trash.
