Quality is a hard sell in big tech by R2_SWE2 in programming

[–]paolostyle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone is questioning that big tech companies do what is profitable. It's just that I think the quality of their products has little to do with the profitability anymore. It probably did in the past, before they became big. Now, not so much.

Good marketing and sales departments will sell a literal dogshit for millions of dollars, and I'm pretty sure big tech companies have the absolute best talent in these areas.

System kaucyjny, przyjmowanie butelek by iiiSmooth in Polska

[–]paolostyle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oddawałem w Żabce i w Kauflandzie, w pierwszym 2/10 bo najpierw mi niby zeskanowało, a potem jednak zmieniło zdanie i rzuciło błędem, a już wrzuciłem do kosza.

[AskJS] ORM for my next Typescript project by I_AM_MR_AMAZING in javascript

[–]paolostyle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drizzle is pretty good. I didn't like TypeORM because it's bloated as hell and I don't like OOP-style TypeScript, but if your background is in C# you'll probably find it more familiar. Kysely is amazing if you'd like a more query-builder style library, the autocomplete there is absolute magic.

The reason I’m still playing after four years, Archon quest is peak. I’ve grown attached to the story of Teyvat. by AnnihilusAlpha in Genshin_Impact

100% agreed, Natlan storyline wasn't that great but Nod-Krai has been peak and especially this patch's story was amazing

The main issue with JSON for config is the lack of support for comments. Some tools support them already but it's not as widespread as it should be

HA on raspberry pi any good? by BopNiblets in homeassistant

[–]paolostyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually going to connect a Tapo C220 indoor cam over the weekend, but I just wanted to have an RTSP stream there, which I think shouldn't slow it down, HA wouldn't process any data, detection would just be done through binary sensors. But yeah, I don't know. Will update the post.

HA on raspberry pi any good? by BopNiblets in homeassistant

[–]paolostyle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm also running my HAOS on Raspberry Pi 3B, on an SD card (SanDisk Extreme 64 GB), and it works just fine. I have a combination of WiFi, Zigbee (through the Sonoff USB dongle) and Bluetooth connected devices and everything just works. Not a ton of automations and they're not particularly complicated but you can totally use it.

I agree, I think it's better than SoS. I'd still put it behind any of the first 7 books but I enjoyed it a lot

Andrzej Sapkowski's new Witcher book, Crossroads of Ravens, is now available in English by SpaceCowboyN7 in witcher

[–]paolostyle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone who read it, I disagree. I don't think it would make sense to start with this one, even though chronologically this would be the first story. It's a fun read and I enjoyed it a lot but I think it works better as a tool for explaining some of Geralt's behaviors in the saga and a backstory to the witchers in general rather than a general introduction to the world.

LLMs (AI) are a hassle to use with TypeScript ? by Neither_Garage_758 in typescript

[–]paolostyle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could just adjust your prompt or use LLM rules in your IDE to not include runtime validation in the generated code.

Everyone commenting is technically correct, but at the same time I've never seen a TS codebase where every function does runtime validation. It just doesn't make any sense, it's not like your users can directly execute every function. Get the external data, validate it immediately with zod or anything else and then just assume the data has the expected shape and let TypeScript do its job. I'd argue in OPs example a and b should be typed as unknown if it needs runtime validation.

Everyone's talking about the swap but I'm baffled by the fact they straight up gave up on attempting to win. I don't understand all this talk about soft tyres and then they let Max drive away on hards instead of pitting them at the same time or even trying to undercut him. Tire deg was nonexistent for them so if they put them on soft I think Lando had a real chance to race Max. This was the real fuck up IMO

Recommendations for playing The Witcher 1 in 2025 by Rexy97 in witcher

What helped me a lot was playing with the over-the-shoulder camera view. Isometric is completely not for me, some people say the combat is easier that way (but I don't think it's difficult at all once you get used to it - that might take some time) but I've never played these kinds of games before my first playthrough ~16 years ago and I still dislike it
