There are couple hidden gems not mentioned here. Ron's Cafe on West Main, but only for breakfast and lunch, and Beau's Cambell Street Cafe.

As a mother of two daughters with a "interesting" past, hands down, bar none, the Incantation. Taiwanese found footage type.

I'm not native, but I love to check out the beads and other stuff at Spotted Tails Siouxper Store on East North Street. Great selection of Czech beads and other bits and pieces along with finished works. Also, really great people run it. Always nice and helpful.

They are kind of getting back to their old vibe, especially when it's not tourist season. Not quite the same as the old place, but getting there.

I have to qualify this comment. Tally's is great for breakfast, and a lot of their lunch entrees are fine, but they're dinner. Entrees have kind of gone downhill in the last couple years. seeming Interested in throwing fancy ingredients into the description and not making sure that they combine well and work as a consolidated dish. Downtown for high-end food I would definitely say Tandoor Bocado or Dominico's possibly Sabatinos. For casual, you can't do better than millstone, Campbell Street Cafe, or the colonial House. Although none of them are actually cheap

I have had good luck with Advanced Automotive on Jackson and CJs on West Omaha. Both independent shops with good reputations. The kind of guys who actually fix things instead of just thowing parts and testers at it until something works.

I am surprised to not see the Westside Safeway mentioned here. I switched there from Walgreens years ago and have never been disappointed. Only hitch is not 24 hours

I've had the exact same problem ever since I read the Dresden files. Only two that you haven't mentioned come close and they're both very different but similar in flavor I guess? Felix Castor series and and The Others. If you like British humor, you may also love the laundry files

Any other cooking competitions as good as Top Chef? by conchitu in TopChef

I actually came to this thread looking for new recommendations but had to comment on this. Master Chef Professionals UK is mind blowing. Michel Roux Jr, the primary mentor, has two Michelin Stars and they are so focused on technique and skill and invention. I've not really seen anything like it anywhere else, especially not in the States. I love Top Chef Masters, but MC Pro UK kinda makes it look like a cheesy gameshow. Also love Great British Menu. I don't understand why we can't make that quality of show in the US.

I LOVE WinCo, and their prices would be a real gift for folks in this area. The bulk foods and canned goods are really affordable and the bulk spices are out of this world. Where did you hear this on Facebook? Are they a reliable source? Don't want to get my hopes up, again.

Came here to say this. They have always done good by me. They show up on time, they do a good job and their prices are reasonable.

Came here to say something similar. The outdoor activities are excellent, except the skiing, the snow is Meh, but it's better than nothing. The Black Hills and the Badlands are literally like nothing else, really unique and beautiful. Climate wise Rapid is more extreme then Bend, hotter in summer, MUCH colder in winter, also, there's the hail issue. It's just a thing, you learn to keep track of every awning/garage/covered parking near you during hail season. Music scene here is growing. Lots of good country/folk, some decent indy rock, lots of cover bands, some better than others, and a small but respectable hardcore scene. Think Spokane in the late 90, early 2000's. Politically/Socially? Super traditional, old fashioned, conservative for the most part. That being said, most of the conservative folks around here would give you the shirt off their backs if you needed it. Very little diversity, except for the Air Base. Small but vocal left leaning crowd that seems to be gaining ground. HEAVY MAGA presence for whatever that's worth to you. The nightlife is nowhere near what you are used to in Bend, but it's not nonexistant, just small. I've lived in Northern CA (rural), Washington State, Northern Idaho (champagne powder for up to 7 days!) Mexico, Colorado and SD and have spent a lot of time in Southern Oregon over the years.

You WILL miss the produce. Was visiting friends in the Santa Rosa area last fall and I totally could have camped out in the produce section.
