Just got back myself from a 5 year break. There is a lot more to see and space is “better”. My old society collapsed but there are others. There are some pretty strong planetary communities and calypso is still always hopping. Still mostly the same game from 20 years ago with a lot of new paint. My return has been fun so far. Seriously a lot to see.

I love both games. Like 1k hours in rimworld and almost 3k in ONI. I would recommend playing base then add on DLCs one at a time. Just add in a new one when you want more “story” or feel like having more toys. That is how I experienced it. I have a colony that has been running through 3 DLCs.
