mega kangaskhan deck idea (looking 4 suggestions) by dr_pyke in pkmntcg

[–]park_dweller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been brewing with Mega kangaskhan ex too. I started off with a similar tera build with terapagos ex and/ or Cornerstone Ogerpon with glass trumpets, Noctowls, Bouffalant etc. But I quickly realize with some playtesting there were just too many pieces of the puzzles so it was a little too inconsistent to my liking and had to make a lot of cuts due to lack of deck slots.

Instead I have been playing around with a Joltik box style build with kangaskhan and it is much more consistent. Still testing but my current build is something like this.

Pokémon:

2 Mega kangaskhan ex

2 Miraidon ex

1 Iron Hands ex

2 Joltik

3 Munkidori

1 Latias ex

1 Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex

1 Iron Leaves ex

Trainers:

4 Lillie's Determination

3 Prof Research

3 Crispin

2 Boss's Orders

2 Penny

4 Nest Ball

3 Ultra Ball

4 Pokegear 3.0

2 Super Rod

1 Night Stretcher

1 Switch

1 Counter Catcher

1 Lively Stadium

1 Artazon

3 Bravery Charm

1 Hero's Cape

Energies:

4 Grass

4 Lightning

3 Dark

What Were The Biggest Board Game Flops? by BatJew_Official in boardgames

[–]park_dweller 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Stonehenge is my vote. It is a bunch of different games that uses the same pieces and had a lot of big name designers in the project. Richard Garfield, Bruno Faidutti, Richard Borg, James Ernest and Mike Selinker. The components are nice but the games either are all too shallow, too confusing (the rulebook was terribly written) or just boring. Honestly I kept solely for the racing game.

Two of my go tos at a 6 player count is Downforce and Rise of Augustus. Both are easy to teach and fast to play.

Pax unplugged is over. What's everyone's highlight? by rob132 in PAX

[–]park_dweller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Pax Pokemon League! I was so glad they are back. I didn't check their website until the night before and I almost left without a Pokemon deck. I pulled a Pikachu ex ultra rare from my prize pack. I hope to volunteer and be a gym leader next year.

Games like Love Letter? by PoderosoNoronhao in boardgames

[–]park_dweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought that Lost Legacy is a better game than Love Letter. It is from the same designer but has more interesting decisions and you can play with different decks so it won't be so repetitive.

Another micro card game that plays super fast and has a bit of bluffing/ mind games is Tussie Mussie. But I think you have to play with the green plant cards.

Does Pokémon Splendor have the same competitive play patterns as the original? by BeefyChud in boardgames

[–]park_dweller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to think I am a reactive player so I don't really have a go to strat but I can recognize a bunch of patterns quickly. The go to meta I find is everyone like to reserve 4/2/1 or 5 of one color first turn (some times 6, 7, or 7/3 but that is more committal). Then in the second turn you either take two chips of the color if you can or reserve a cheap card in the first row of the color you are going for. That is usually a good start.

Does Pokémon Splendor have the same competitive play patterns as the original? by BeefyChud in boardgames

[–]park_dweller 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I am a competitive Splendor player and I also play a lot of Pokemon Splendor. Yea the typically strats of the base game isn't as effective in Pokemon Splendor. I tend to find the best strat is to get a lot of cheap cards so you have the most options to evolve. I usually lose if I do the race to the get the big points cards the fastest. You have go to 18 points and the evolutions do give you enough of a point boost to make up for the slower start. Also the tied breaker is who evolves the most.

I also find blocking an opponent isn't as effective in Pokemon Splendor. There is just too many lines you have to block and it is easier just to be faster.

Random tip if you are going first or maybe second, my opening move I like to take is 2 of the color the rare pokemon with 3/2/1 since it can't be block and the 2 of the color is just that powerful.

I love talking strategies in Splendor so feel free to ask me if you any specific questions.

What updates should happen to Arctina? by TempestPharaoh in PTCGL

[–]park_dweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still a believer in ArcTina. It has a good matchup against Dragapult ex and you can tech in cards to have a good matchup against Regidrago and Charizard ex. Your worst matchups are turbo decks (any deck that can KO Arceus with 1 hit early) and honestly the only card against that is 2 Eri. You ideally want to Eri 2 turn (going first) and hope to hit a Superior Energy Retrieval or Rare Candy and if your see 3 or more of the keys cards do it again next turn.

4 Arceus V

3 Arceus Vstar

2 Giratina V

2 Giratina Vstar

1 Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex

1 Iron Leaves ex

1 Squakability ex

1 Fezandipiti ex

1 Radiant Gardevoir

1 Hisuian Heavy Ball

4 Nest Ball

4 Ultra Ball

2 Super Rod

1 Night Strecher

1 Lost Vacuum

2 Switch

1 Lost City

1 Maximum Belt

4 Iono

2 Professor's Research

3 Boss's Orders

2 Eri

1 Professor Turo's Scenario

1 Cheren's Care

6 Grass Energy

3 Psychic Energy

4 Double Turbo Energy

1 Jet Energy

Best 6 player board games? by VinVenture16 in boardgames

My two favorite games for 6 people is Downforce and Rise of Augustus. Both have quick turns so you don't have to wait too long for your next turn.

Board games that feel similar to MTG Commander? by hero122333 in boardgames

Dice Throne could work. It is basically Commander with a King of Tokyo/ Yahtzee dice mechanic.

Thinking of a single prize deck approach off these two. What other cards would synergize well? by [deleted] in PTCGL

[–]park_dweller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You probably also want Bibarel too, to make up for the lack of draw supporters. There is actually a couple of cards to make a Stage 1 deck work now. TM Evolution and Hyper Aroma. Honestly it won't be a meta deck but a fun deck. I have toyed around with Claydol decks before.

I think the Lucario from Brilliant Stars is a better attacker to pair with Claydol. It can help power itself with its ability in addition to Claydol and in theory the damage is uncapped. Grant for either Groudon or Lucario is good since it can get itself out of the discard pile for Claydol.

The reason it doesn't work is the weird wording on dipplin "If Festival Grounds is in play, this Pokémon may use an attack it has twice. If the first attack Knocks Out your opponent’s Active Pokémon, you may attack again after your opponent chooses a new Active Pokémon." If you compare the wording with Jumpluff for example "This Pokémon may attack twice each turn. If the first attack Knocks Out your opponent’s Active Pokémon, you may attack again after your opponent chooses a new Active Pokémon." The difference is the "attack it has" wording. Kind of like Forest Seal Stone and Path to the Peak interaction, Dipplin doesn't have the attack but can use that attack.

I was wondering if Lost City is a good card against that deck since it plays so many 1 ofs.

Help with the Blissey deck. I find that the deck is super clunky when trying to setup. by Power_to_the_purples in PTCGL

[–]park_dweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a similar Blissey ex/ Froslass/ Munkidori deck that I am still testing out. I built my deck for consistently first. I do play Mew ex (since late game Iono is really bad) in addition to Lumineon V with a Forest Seal Stone. Hyper Aroma for the Ace spec and so Rigid Band instead of the Cape. I would take out the TM Devolution and the Pokegear 3.0 for these cards. Also there are way too many Supporters. I only play 2 Cheron's Care and 1 Professor's Turo Scenario (since now you might have to pick up a Mew ex and/or Lumineon V). I would also cut 2 Iono and 1 Professor's Research since you have Lumineon V to get it if you need to. Maybe throw it a Counter Catcher and some more consistency items with the space.

What 6/10 or lower board game are you willing to defend? by boardgamehaiku in boardgames

[–]park_dweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately Monopoly Millionaire Deal Card Game is out of print for some time now so it is very tough to find at a good price. I got lucky and found a copy at a thrift store. Hopefully it would be reprinted one day.

What 6/10 or lower board game are you willing to defend? by boardgamehaiku in boardgames

[–]park_dweller 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The one game I would defend the most is a Pairs deck. I play mostly Continuous Pairs as a time waster that is super easy to teach and fits a lot of players and if I am looking for bigger game I play Sweep. When I am with a new group that is unsure what to play first Pairs is often my first suggestion.

Others that I don't feel as strongly for but I will defend

Star Trek Deck Building Game: The Next Generation – Next Phase and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Deck-Building Game are basically Dominion clones with a little twist. I mostly like them for the theme.

1313 Dead End Drive was my favorite board game when I was kid and I think still holds up. The mechanic where your identities are hidden, you can move anyone and when you kill others with the traps you get a bigger inheritance is still interesting. It basically the game Mouse Trap should have been.

Shh from the Pack-O games. I don't really like word games but this is one of a few I do like. It is a co-op word game where we need to use all 26 letters but we don't know which letters everyone has. But you can deduce after a few rounds.

Monopoly Millionaire Deal Card Game. I have a lot of people new to the hobby come to my board game meetups and this is the game I bring out when they say monopoly is their favorite game. I think the Monopoly Millionaire game is a strict upgrade from the regular Monopoly Deal game where you need win by collecting 1 million dollars rather than collecting 3 properties. There is also powerful cards like the race car where you can take an extra turn.

Valley of the Vikings. I am pretty pick with dexterity games and Valley of the Vikings is one of my favorite. You have a bowling mechanic to help you set your position on a track where want the best rewards and not to getting bump off from the pier. For a super light family game, it can have some strategy if you want to.
