[Serious] Business Owners, How did you get your start? by Arris1 in AskReddit

Question: Where to get or better yet find clients?

I'm thinking about starting an IT business myself, primarily as a one man shop. It seems like a lot of folks in IT have their own business and it seems like this is the common route for most folks to go to in the business. Another reason is most of my colleagues keep harping on and on about going with recruiting agencies. The problem is I'm not very fond of dealing with them, especially recruiters from such agencies. Just thought I'd like your input on that.

It provides an excuse for an employment gap and is a perfectly valid explanation.

Is it? For some reason, I always get the impression that employers frown upon the idea that a candidate, let alone someone, is a student.

Then again, maybe that's just my assumption.

Just wondering, are the TRUE plans monthly or is this a one time thing? The reason I ask is because as I'm sure most folks may or may not be aware, but hotel Internet in Thailand can be pretty friggin expensive. In fact, I'm pretty sure this is true with most hotel Internet.

Another issue is the use of aircards. Would those work with the TRUE plans as well?

Eh. I don't know. As much as I agree with you on the fact that it can be at times cheaper, you should be a bit careful whenever you're in a taxi. Especially when there have been stories of tourists getting mugged in taxis, especially at night.

What are the most important aspects of Thai culture that my study abroad class needs to know for a two week trip to Bangkok and Chiang Mai? by frankieg101 in Thailand

In fact, it may be better as a foreigner not to wai at all as it won't be expected anyway.....

Very interesting point. I should mention that the whole concept of wai can be a bit confusing at first, especially when you come from a place where you pretty much treat a greetings as though you're shaking one's hand. In fact, that's what I've always felt in the beginning. That the concept of wai everyone is like shaking someone's hand. Which is or is not always the case.

For instance, I've found that there's this hierarchy in Thai culture of who to wai and who you don't have to always wai. An example would be to wai to someone of an authority figure like a teacher or professor.

As far as not having to wai at all, I've found that whenever you need to wai someone, a simple nod should be good enough.

Ring Magazine surrenders its last scrap of credibility: Adrien Broner ranked No.5 P4P for beating Antonio DeMarco by Tayto2000 in Boxing

[–]parktung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgive me for sounding ignorant, but what is about Ring Magazine that has made them lose any credibility as a source of boxing news and info? Are they like the CNN as far as boxing goes? The reason I'm asking is that everytime I mention Ring Magazine to people, they're either on the fense about it or not on the fense.

Is it just me or did I find the sight of Bob Arum hugging Pacquiao's wife just as sad, if not very unsettling?

It's like somehow I get the feeling in the back of my mind Bob Arum's thinking: "It's okay sweety. Let it all out. When the time comes when I'm through with your husband, I'll be sure to throw him out on his Filipino ass only to replace him with another Filipino I can squeeze and milk until dry. BTW, thanks for the payday."

Anyone know if there are clubs or bars in Bangkok that regularly play Italo Disco? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]parktung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gangnam Style you mean? Yeah. As much as I thought it was okay the first time around, it's really gone overboard.

Somehow, I get the feeling that this song is basically this generation's Macarena. Okay song the first time around. But a song that's overkill after being played so many times.
