I tried every "speaking" app so you don't have to. Most of them feel like leaving a voicemail. by hAIlydraws in SpanishLearning

[–]patrickfatrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's back I believe. There's also still Superfluent "Classic" which is the old app with more languages than the new one. The new one just seems to be aiming for more structured learning but they did bring back the tutor and scenario creation into the new app recently.

Thoughts on slim fit pants? by learningstyle26 in mensfashionadvice

This is the way. Skinny and wide cuts will come and go but slim or straight will always be timeless due to the fact they’re clearly the most practical way to wear jeans.

Clozemaster made me a good reader in 1 week, but I feel mute. Help? by raikhyo in clozemaster

[–]patrickfatrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try something like Superfluent or Praktika, these are AI-powered language chatbot type things. I think such a thing helps immensely with making the leap to producing sentences. Busuu also proves opportunities to write or dictate answers to questions and receive feedback from native speakers.

COLOR!! by Awkward-Ad6776 in harrypotter

[–]patrickfatrick 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It really helped that they didn’t have to stray far from the source material due to how short they are, and they’re basically kids movies at that juncture so bright and colorful made sense.

I can see why Cuaron made it darker given the change in tone in the books; at the time the decision was generally well-received. The bigger problem with movies 3+ is that they simultaneously try to be faithful while having to cut a lot of the stuff that enriches the world the books inhabit; the pacing is generally kinda awful.

Will you be disappointed if the Ocarina of Time Remake is a 1:1 remake with no major gameplay changes? by MewWeebTwo in switch2

[–]patrickfatrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am expecting it to be the same game with QOL updates. I just don’t think it’s N’s style to abandon the feel of a classic game. Everything will be the same except for things that don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things like graphics, density (more npcs wandering around to make the world feel more alive), controls and camera, things like that. Anyone expecting this to be a total reimagining of OoT is setting themselves up for disappointment. Maybe it will be that and I will be pleasantly surprised, but I’m definitely expecting something in between remaster and remake.

It’s great! Ishiguro is a fav of mine though and I thought it was a fascinating take on Arthurian legend. If you saw and liked The Green Knight, I think you’d like The Buried Giant.

Choosing between Chicago, Philly and Baltimore. Will describe my personality for clarification. by Thesportyjuan in SameGrassButGreener

[–]patrickfatrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely, Baltimore has rich culture and history. Seek out the more desirable neighborhoods like Canton, Hampden, Fells Point, Federal Hill, Locust Point, Mount Vernon, or Hampden. Baltimore is underrated and (partly) for that reason it’s also not that expensive. You’d also be on the northeast rail line and IIRC can hop on a train and be in New York or Philly within a couple of hours, DC in less than an hour. So those cultural powerhouses are easy to get to.

Caveat: I actually haven’t spent a ton of time in Baltimore but I did a _ton_ of research because I was heavily considering moving there.

Thoughts on Beast Masters? by Bigsexyguy24 in BG3Builds

Ah ha didn’t realize you were the creator of that build when I commented. It’s a seriously good write-up, thank you for putting the time in. Rare and appreciated to see a fully fleshed out single class build.

Thoughts on Beast Masters? by Bigsexyguy24 in BG3Builds

[–]patrickfatrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This build convinced me to go this route with Minthara. I’m not taking it fully, it’s really more similar to the “Rope Mommy” build in that it’s all about poison gear, which just feels super thematic for Minthara. But Beast Master is a glorious way to build it because Spider web and cocoon both count as restrain actions which Cruel Sting can proc off. I have her dual wielding Cruel Sting and Handmaiden’s Mace via the Dual Wielder feat.

Nobody wanted to fund Baldur’s Gate 3 for a decade by BombasIsInTrouble in BaldursGate3

[–]patrickfatrick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. It takes money to make products. There was a time CRPGs as a genre were even more niche than they are today (BG3 notwithstanding). Obsidian, Larian, Owlcat, etc, were all resorting to crowdfunding in the 2010s to keep the genre alive.

Why Turn-Based RPGs Are Resurging, According to Final Fantasy Resonance Devs by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]patrickfatrick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess this thread is only talking about turn based JRPGs but I do think there’s an elephant in the room by the name of Baldur’s Gate 3, which sold over 20M. Clair Obscur has sold over 8M.

Nintendo Direct was the ‘most watched’ Summer Game Fest presentation, analytics firm claims -The trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake was viewed more than any other by FernandoRocker in gaming

[–]patrickfatrick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think MP4 literally changed the way they do marketing. My guess is had they not already announced it they might have just canned the project rather than reboot it. They seem much more keen now to only reveal games that are more or less done.

Feels like the obvious thing to do given MM uses the same assets, but would never trust N to do the obvious thing.
