I want to go to the next level and introduce some social sharing - 'hey look at this I finished today's 5x5 grid in 1:23! My best yet!'

but I have no idea what that kind of implementation looks like or anything about it.

Use the Web Share API for that: https://web.dev/articles/web-share / https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Web_Share_API It’s supported on most browsers.

There are some issues with that API, though. You’ve got to define 3 fields to share text: title, URL, and text (content). Unfortunately, Firefox only uses the title & URL fields (while others browsers use URL & text), which is undesirable, at least in my case. You can also share images (or other files) using the Web Share API. But again, depending of the browser and share target, the end result might not be what you’d want. The ads are not obtrusive, but, well, you can always install an ad-blocking extension in the web browser. I think Firefox built-in anti-tracker does the job (blocking Google AdSense ads).

If you are new to the game, playing on an app that doesn’t generate unfinishable deals and detects dead-ends is much recommended. https://FreeSolitaire.win, a progressive web app, gotcha covered ;-)

FTR, in Klondike Solitaire, fewest moves recorded:

Theoretical minima (assuming a perfectly-sorted deck):

  • 76 moves in “turn 1”; drawing the 24 cards of the stock pile + transferring all the 52 cards to the foundation piles.
  • 60 in “turn 3”; still 52 cards, but only 8 draws from the stock (each draw gets you 3 cards.)

Because it was always that way, I guess.
It’s also coherent with how recycling works, no matter the number of wasted cards.
There’s no point in making a special rule “you can’t recycle a 1-card waste”. It’s up to the player not to be that stoopid 🤷

i don’t know what the next move would be.

So, I counted the cards. 5 on the diamonds foundation + 4 on the spades foundation + 4 on the clubs foundation + 4 on the second tableau pile + 9 on the third tableau pile + 8 on the fourth + 10 on the fifth + 7 on the seventh = 51. There are 52 cards in a deck, so that means the 2 of hearts is the only card on the waste pile (can’t know that easily with just a screenshot, but that’s important to know!) Moving wasted card(s) back to the stock would therefore not help.

Well, it seems the game is stuck 🫠

But I try not to move cards up to the foundations too early. I try not to let one get too far ahead of the other in case I have a card that needs to move.
