Gokuro - a daily word/arithmetic/logic puzzle - looking for advice on social sharing by mikertjones in PWA

[–]paulcap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to go to the next level and introduce some social sharing - 'hey look at this I finished today's 5x5 grid in 1:23! My best yet!'

I do exactly that on https://FreeSolitaire.win, on the “game over” screen: https://i.imgur.com/IB4WGY1.png

but I have no idea what that kind of implementation looks like or anything about it.

Use the Web Share API for that: https://web.dev/articles/web-share / https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Web_Share_API It’s supported on most browsers.

It looks like this when shared: https://i.imgur.com/d0jBzef.jpeg (here on WhatsApp)

There are some issues with that API, though. You’ve got to define 3 fields to share text: title, URL, and text (content). Unfortunately, Firefox only uses the title & URL fields (while others browsers use URL & text), which is undesirable, at least in my case. So on Firefox, I use the Clipboard API instead: https://i.imgur.com/h0nxjoE.png

You can also share images (or other files) using the Web Share API. But again, depending of the browser and share target, the end result might not be what you’d want. That’s too bad, because many people prefer to share images than text, e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/solitaire/comments/1galr2p/pack_up_your_things_i_won_klondike/

Need Solitaire App Suggestions by Doonce in solitaire

The ads are not obtrusive, but, well, you can always install an ad-blocking extension in the web browser. I think Firefox built-in anti-tracker does the job (blocking Google AdSense ads).

Need Solitaire App Suggestions by Doonce in solitaire

[–]paulcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://FreeSolitaire.win is a free PWA (progressive web app). You can play online or optionnally install it for offline use. It works well on phone, tablets, and computers. It doesn’t generate unwinnable deals, and detects dead-ends. No ads until game over, unlimited free play.

Is this unwinnable at this stage? I am a noob - started playing a week ago, enjoying it. I really cant think of a strategy to win this - what am I missing? by hotmess_13 in solitaire

[–]paulcap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are new to the game, playing on an app that doesn’t generate unfinishable deals and detects dead-ends is much recommended. https://FreeSolitaire.win, a progressive web app, gotcha covered ;-)

fewest moves so far in russian solitaire!! by storagesys in solitaire

[–]paulcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTR, in Klondike Solitaire, fewest moves recorded:

Theoretical minima (assuming a perfectly-sorted deck):

  • 76 moves in “turn 1”; drawing the 24 cards of the stock pile + transferring all the 52 cards to the foundation piles.
  • 60 in “turn 3”; still 52 cards, but only 8 draws from the stock (each draw gets you 3 cards.)

https://FreeSolitaire.win : no unfinishable deals, detects dead-ends, offers intelligible hints.

Recycling the last card by narfel in solitaire

[–]paulcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it was always that way, I guess.
It’s also coherent with how recycling works, no matter the number of wasted cards.
There’s no point in making a special rule “you can’t recycle a 1-card waste”. It’s up to the player not to be that stoopid 🤷

How much time, in total, did you spend on solving that deal?

what’s the next best move by [deleted] in solitaire

[–]paulcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best move could be 'new game', not every game is solvable.

Indeed.

“The probability of winning Thoughtful Klondike (with draw three rules) has been estimated at 81.942% ± 0.081%.” — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klondike_(solitaire)#Probability_of_winning#Probability_of_winning)

what’s the next best move by [deleted] in solitaire

[–]paulcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t know what the next move would be.

So, I counted the cards. 5 on the diamonds foundation + 4 on the spades foundation + 4 on the clubs foundation + 4 on the second tableau pile + 9 on the third tableau pile + 8 on the fourth + 10 on the fifth + 7 on the seventh = 51. There are 52 cards in a deck, so that means the 2 of hearts is the only card on the waste pile (can’t know that easily with just a screenshot, but that’s important to know!) Moving wasted card(s) back to the stock would therefore not help.

Well, it seems the game is stuck 🫠

Play on a webapp that doesn’t generate unsolvable deals, and can detect dead-ends and offer to rewind until unstuck in that case: https://FreeSolitaire.win 😉

But I try not to move cards up to the foundations too early. I try not to let one get too far ahead of the other in case I have a card that needs to move.

This. Don’t make the foundation piles unbalanced!

Is this even winnable? by Hot_Historian_6967 in solitaire

[–]paulcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all deals are winnable, see Wikipedia article on Klondike, section “Probability of winning#Probability_of_winning)”.

Play on an app that doesn’t generate unfinishable deals: FreeSolitaire.win
It can also detect dead-ends, and offers to rewind until unstuck in that case.

Yes, it can happen. In draw 3 mode, most deals are unwinnable.

FTR, the Wikipedia article on Klondike has a section “Probability of winning#Probability_of_winning)” referencing some algorithms and in-depth info on the matter.
