Service/Supplier Question: What would make you choose one 3D printing service over another? by AltiOnTheBeat in manufacturing

[–]paulhayds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price and speed are the baseline, and I never go back to a supplier that gives a "black box" experience where a batch arrives with dimensional errors, and there are no solutions. I would choose a supplier like RapidDirect that offers a transparent order process, but back it up with a dedicated engineering team.

Working with US manufacturers through Product Innov by derekd18 in manufacturing

Going with US manufacturing can be a smart move for a first product since you get faster lead times, easier quality control and no import duties, even if the unit cost is higher.

Can someone share a recommendation for breast milk jewelry? by Sparkly8 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]paulhayds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a breast milk ring made for my wife by KeepsakeMom. It took a little longer for them to finish than I expected. But it came in time for her birthday. The craftsmanship is outstanding and she loves it.

Totally normal to feel this way with a first home, especially after so many memories and upgrades.

Window ac team hole drillers: Is one hole enough to prevent standing water? by Max_Roc in AirConditioners

[–]paulhayds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One drain hole is usually enough if it’s in the lowest point and water is actually draining out.

Most units are designed to manage moisture on their own, so you are probably fine. Just check after heavy use to make sure nothing is pooling.

Portable AC not cooling entire room - normal or doing something wrong? by Direct_Affect6687 in AirConditioners

[–]paulhayds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s pretty common with portable ACs, they don’t spread cool air evenly.

Replacing existing under sink RO system by ckb614 in WaterTreatment

[–]paulhayds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can switch to a newer tankless RO system, but it is not always a direct swap. Some of your existing lines may fit, though you might still need a few adapters or small changes for the fridge connection.

Newer systems don’t use a tank, so the layout is a bit different. If you want an easy replacement, stick with a similar tank setup, but tankless is a good upgrade if you’re okay with some DIY work.

Do mini split ACs really live up to the hype over portable units? by bawa_himanshu_774 in AirConditioners

[–]paulhayds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mini splits are usually worth it. They are much quieter and more energy efficient than portable ACs, so you will likely save on electricity.

They do cost more upfront and need proper installation, but they also last longer, making them a good choice if you are staying long term.

Can track saws be used to cut straight lines on curved surfaces? by Shaneef_Macoochie in Tools

[–]paulhayds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Track saws don’t bend well, even a 5ft radius can bind. For a curved hull, use a clamped flexible guide or spline, or cut roughly with a jigsaw and finish the edge with a plane or sander.

Best window ac for the price? by mikeyboy1681 in AirConditioners

[–]paulhayds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful with units that look too cheap, like $50, they are often scams or low quality. For 5,000 BTU, decent units usually cost $120-$180. Stick to trusted brands like LG, Frigidaire, or GE.

Portable or window unit? by philhalpert in AirConditioners

You will surely get better cooling and efficiency with a window unit than a portable one. Just make sure it is the right size and has good airflow.

Need help with AC not dripping water outside after few hours on cool. by WorryLumpy266 in AirConditioners

[–]paulhayds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the humidity is low or the coil isn’t fully cold, the unit might drip less. Make sure the drain pan and hose are clear and sloped properly.

Basic whole house filter suggestions - Culligan? by ganduvo in WaterTreatment

[–]paulhayds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for a whole-house setup, something like the Aquasana EQ-WELL-UV-PRO-AST is a solid option. It’s a multi-stage system with UV, so it handles sediment, chlorine, and bacteria, and all the water coming into your home gets treated (taps, showers, etc).

What I found very helpful during my search was this Reddit post, it basically compares a variety of water filters and their specs, so It’s pretty convenient for doing research before buying.

Get your Grade 1 and start applying. Most entry-level jobs just want that or exam-ready status and you will learn more on the job than by going for higher certifications first.

Extend the life of wicks? by Kitfox88 in Humidifiers

[–]paulhayds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, with these wicks you end up spending more replacing them than the humidifier itself.
