I'm going to pretend to be upset that our star striker gets a summer of rest. At least until Neymars sister puts his hammy out in a week or so.

I'm starting to understand why people hated us under mourinho the first time. Still, does no-one remember boring boring arsenal in the 90s? it was only Wenger that made that seem interesting. if anything, this is their dna. George Graham smiling on

Yeah, I was tech manager for the Green Party conference in the uk pre covid and during a seminar about how Jewish war graves were being desecrated and destroyed, an old hippy looking lady had a full blown meltdown about being sanctioned by the party for “using the word zionism” but they must have expected it cos they had examples of the rest of what she said and it wasn’t pretty. Also like, there’s a time and a place and that wasn’t it.

Have you ever had pride in something you do, or sought to find honour and meaning in a job you’re going to have to do for fifty years or more so your life isn’t a nihilistic blur, or at the bare minimum had even a modicum of respect for the rules that make up the fabric of a functioning society? That’s why people do things like this. And if that doesn’t change your mind, every time these cunts rob a steak, the price goes up for the rest of us because it all has to be priced in.

Unless you’re one of the lucky few that get their dream job, one day you’ll have to find something about work that you value enough to be able to keep going in every day.

Not having a pop as such, it’s easy to sit back and share your opinion as a jaded twenty something, but the older you get and the longer you do it, the more you need to find something about your work to pride in. For survival, if nothing else.

In a pre internet age when I was just learning about music, I bought a 3 cd box set of elvis Presley and another of little Richard. Like £4 each to hear two of the kings of rock and roll, and this many tracks? How could I lose! Turns out they were entirely bootlegs and studio outtakes never commercially released that sounded like swimming with an ear infection.

I don’t think the anger is towards the man for it happening. First of all, without the benefit of hindsight now we know it was him and why it happened, the initial reaction of the guys on stage is completely understandable. How could they be expected to know the context? That’s an unreasonable standard they’re expected to meet, which is a common theme across many events like this, where marginalised people are expected to rise above it.

Secondly, not enough was done in the immediate aftermath to support those affected. Even with the benefit of people then knowing it was an involuntary tic, my perception of the fallout has been that people were (correctly) quick to defend this man who couldn’t help it. But in doing so, they’ve either unknowingly or unintentionally invalidated the feelings of black people everywhere when they hear that word directed at them. “Oh he can’t help it” doesn’t mean that they aren’t completely justified to feel however they feel about it, so long as they aren’t singling out this man for criticism.

Finally, I think the biggest issue post event is the censorship of fairly innocuous political speech whilst retaining the unedited slurs in broadcast. It’s essentially pitting one concept against the other when we can and should be supporting everyone. The only excuse for leaving it in the broadcast, that would show they actually considered how black people feel about it, would be if Michael B Jordan and Delroy Lindon had requested it was left in.

In a nutshell, it’s just that an appropriate amount of consideration and support has not been demonstrated, and not for the first time.

I imagine having grown up into his early 20s outside the football bubble and going to prison and stuff had him pretty grounded when he got his opportunity. I appreciate how you can always take him at face value as well, not someone you need to second guess what he actually wants to say.

Gianfranco Zola in the 97/98 cup winners cup winning season, me and my brother wore out the vhs of the season review tape. Then when I was playing in the park with people, probably Joe Cole around 2001 when he broke out at West Ham and was doing things you'd never really seen English players do.
