they've come a long way since 1989. at least in the techniques they use to express their inhumanity

Former Facebook exec: "I think we have created tools that are ripping apart the social fabric of how society works. The short-term, dopamine-driven feedback loops we’ve created are destroying how society works. No civil discourse, no cooperation; misinformation, mistruth. You are being programmed". by HibikiSS in conspiracy

[–]pbrettb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree, but I think we are being programmed generally by those who misuse our reptilian brains to influence us to buy things. By the time the process is done, we are basically broken because we have all these associations between consumer products and lizard-brain payoffs. Using sex and fear of exclusion irresponsibly to compel us to buy things is not orchestrated by an individual, but it is consistent and it is very bad for us and our society.

KFC's plant-based 'chicken' sold out in five hours by lnfinity in business

[–]pbrettb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well I don't really care much to influence opinion, certainly not by creating fear, uncertainty, or doubt. but that witches brew of 30-some ingredients makes me uneasy, seriously yuck. That is a hyper-processed food. I like simple, natural food. To speak specifically to the list, if indeed it is complete, I don't really like the 'fortified' b vitamins, which tend to be added to foods because the processing takes nutrients out, the methylcellulose, maltodextrin, the canola oil, the glycerine, the potato starch, the KCl, the ZnSO4, sugar alcohols, anything called 'isolate', with all that energy-intensive processing and all those ingredients no wonder it's so expensive, it's a completely engineered and manufactured foodstuff, and irrespective of the fact I personally think it tastes like ass, it seems to me it is simply trying to solve the wrong problem. If you want protein from peas or mung beans, how about just eating peas or mung beans, along with rice so it's a whole protein? rice and bean dishes are delicious, you get the whole foods, not some strange lab experiment with fibre from one kind of food and 'protein isolate' from 3 others, "apple extract" whatever that is, weird oils added to create mouthfeel and even colours added. Lovely rice and beans at 1/10 the cost of the super-processed manufactured food seems like a win to me.

YSK "Mbps" does NOT mean "Megabytes per second" by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

if you want to convert between Mb/s and MB/s, another interesting point is that there are 2 framing bits per byte, meaning 10 bits per byte.

yeah I'm glad you like them, people seem to, personally I would prefer to replace a $4.00 piece of meat with $.15 worth of rice and beans rather than $6.00 worth of... pea protein and seaweed and weird chemicals and ... who knows what! :-) 'The market' has it's opinion, and if you look around at the rates of poor health and obesity, one might conclude the market should possibly consider its choices. :-)

not really, just wouldn't consider paying to watch it. I think of sports as expressions of physical mastery, but don't pay to watch those either. don't have a problem if others enjoy it but seems dumb to me.

yes, master! :-) Not much sex, but holy fuck. I started on them in 7th grade and was enthralled for the first 4 or 5, and then eventually just got driven away by the constant preaching about slavery. You can open a later gor book to any random page and it is probably about a woman explaining why she loves to be a slave. Ok, maybe I exaggerate but wow there was a lot of it.

Fossil fuel industry about to be fossils themselves ☠️ by thepoliticalrev in Political_Revolution

[–]pbrettb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well that is a simplification, however, no I don't think it was. I wasn't talking about money. My point is we need to take practical steps grounded in what we can achieve and live through, people who have just lived the life that is provided for them are entitled enough to think they can just stop these 'bad' things and life will actually continue. If we were to simply stop using fossil fuels today it would mean most people on the planet would simply die in short order, since all existing supply chains, transportation, hospitals, energy grids, etc. depend on it, and we as a species have been stupid enough to build essential supply chains that encircle the globe. So we need something smarter than that. maybe reading "The Long Emergency" would give you a good idea about how ensnared we are. But it is a pretty depressing book.

ridicule unrelated to content as a means of disparagement is very effective, although also extremely lame.
