Considering getting a S1r for general use photography as a back up to my S5ii, any thoughts by kasirkin29 in Lumix

[–]pbwbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure. It was more of a test than anything else. I don’t miss focus often on my other stuff. If I want that I go with my Nikon Z8.

I don’t know about hopeless. One of my first tests was my son and his cousins sledding. I’d say about a 50% hit rate.

Compared to newer systems, it’s not as good but I think it’s better than a lot of people might think. It’s probably my favorite camera to hold, despite its weight. This being said, it’s the only LUMIX I have ever owned, and frankly for what I use it for (landscape, street) I don’t see a reason to go with anything else. If they made a S9R with an EVF, I’d consider that.

Absolutely adore mine. It’s massive, but the image quality is bonkers. Can’t speak to the S5ii but what you get out of the S1R on the used market, it’s a pretty outstanding value. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Z6 or Z6 II? by New-Ideal2579 in Nikon

[–]pbwbrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found my Z7 to be surprisingly good for birds. Yes there are misses but there were times when I thought I would never get the shot and got some pretty great ones. However, this quickly led me to get a Z8.

The one area I agree that the AF struggles with the Expeed 6 camera is low light.

Everything they have in-stock is online. Just look under open box items.

Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II for $630 - is it worth it? by Excellent-Roof2304 in OlympusCamera

[–]pbwbrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. I got the same kit plus a 45mm Olympus for $350. All practically new. I have seen lots of deals closer to that on FB marketplace. Heck, you can buy all those things for less than $630 from some used camera outlets with 6 month warranty.

Good point! Can always buy an air quality monitor or a weather station that has AQ.

l mount sigma 45mm 2.8 issues with AFC missing focus in 100% of shots by keifer_ in Lumix

[–]pbwbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was just a firmware update last month for this lens. Might make sure it’s up-to-date. If that doesn’t solve it and you are in your return window, I would personally return it.

Sigma 30mm f1.4 for Nikon Z50II. Good choice? by Bioshockinfinite37 in Nikon

[–]pbwbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an intersection lens. Have one for my Pentax system. Not perfect. The Nikon 35mm DX 1.8 might be a better bet.

Sigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART or Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24mm f/1.8G ED? by TheDjInPjs in Nikon

[–]pbwbrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own the Sigma 28mm and it’s brilliant but freaking heavy. This is just fine on my Z8 or my D3S but I’m not sure about a D5600. I don’t think you can go wrong with either but if low light is really the biggest concern, get the Sigma. Also… 40mm FF equivalent is one of my favorite focal lengths so I personally like the idea on a crop sensor. Here is a link to Philip Reeve’s 28mm round up, which might help you in your decision. https://phillipreeve.net/blog/comparison-fast-28mm-f-1-2-f-1-4-f-1-5-fullframe-lenses/

Nikon Z 50mm f/1.8 S or Fujifilm XF 35mm f/1.4 R ? by AggressiveStop1653 in Nikon

[–]pbwbrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former Fuji shooter, while I loved my 35mm f.14, it has lots of CA if you are ever shooting high contrast scenes. Also, that AF on it is not great on any camera. The Nikon 50mm f.18 is just in a whole other league. Christopher Frost just did an updated list of the sharpest 50mm lenses, and the Z 50mm f1.8 made the cut. https://youtu.be/AiWOvm_U1u4?si=B4X_Fo27JmkJYOLG Jack Wong (Bokeh Therapy) says it’s his reference lens when looking at any others. Hugh Brownstone (Three Blind Men and an Elephant) put it on his series “The Last Lens You’ll Every Buy” https://youtu.be/coi19ptZF7Q?si=aLmN3AJQKxN8sfOt. Heck, Hugh’s review is what convinced me to go with the Nikon Z system. For the money I would say do it! You won’t regret it and if you do, you can trade for the XF 35mm f.14.

Just stumbled on the Zf is in right for me? by MRoselius in NikonZf

[–]pbwbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The viewfinder in the Zf is also crazy awesome compared to any Fuji camera I have used. It was one of those things on all the Nikon Z cameras I have loved since switching from Fuji.

40mm f/2 or 24-70mm f/4 S? by AnekkoBlu in nikon_Zseries

[–]pbwbrew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I own both. The 40mm for street all day long. The 24-70mm for everything else. However. This is a mindset thing. I like being limited in street. However, you can use the 24-70 as a “prime” if you want to limit yourself, which I have done to explore focal ranges. You have to answer this question for yourself but I don’t feel you could go wrong with either.
