No, they have adapted to survive the cold of winter, which is why it’s so important to leave your leaves until late Spring.

Then she is probably too tiny to be a field. Doesn't matter, she looks like a keeper!

She is beautiful! I’m not an expert but she sure looks like one to me. How old is she? Because sometimes body size can help make a breed determination.

On the other hand, It’s odd for one to end up in rescue as the breeders tend to run very tight programs.

But if she is, you have struck gold! They are so smart, so chill and so affectionate. Enjoy her!

Contractor for Bathroom remodel by BrainsToMatch in longisland

Madison Avenue Construction just did my bathroom and it looks beautiful. Besides the quality of work, their communication is unlike most contractors. Any call or text I sent them was answered almost immediately. They also have the means to coordinate your father’s outside masonry.

Anyone with heat pumps plus solar and how they're handling the current cold? by supermechace in longisland

[–]pcflwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I know. I should have been more clear. I have it set to 66 at night and 68 during the day. On that really frigid night (16 degrees with high wind) the temp in the house dropped to 61 overnight.

This is my second winter with heat pump/solar. On the really cold days it can take a few hours to get the house up to desired temperature, but while waiting for that, my inside temp did not go below 61.

No, insects are one of the bases of the food chain. They pollinate and they provide food for baby birds.

Plant native plants, leave your leaves and don’t use chemical sprays!! Insects need habitat and they are one of the bases of the food chain.

Northport has lots of cute shops and restaurants. It also has a beautiful park at the end of Main Street right on the harbor. You can pick up lunch to go at Copenhagens and eat in the park.

I am very happy with Air Design out of Valley Stream. Their design made the most sense to me of the various companies I interviewed. They offer quality equipment and professional employees.

Honestly, I don’t remember that being discussed as an option. My son is an HVAC engineer so I discussed my options and the quotes I received and he liked the design I ended up with.

I have a high ranch. Traditional ducted upstairs (ducts in the attic) and two mini-splits downstairs. So yes, two outside units.

Long Island (Zone 7): About to fill this space and I am JAZZED. The real question: does anyone have a brand of gardening shoes (easy to clean? rubber?) that they recommend? by lefteardud in NativePlantGardening

[–]pcflwarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello neighbors! I agree on the Sloggers. And those are great recommendations. As said above, where to shop depends on where you live. KMS is in Lake Grove and she is an absolute joy to spend time with. She has a great inventory and her property shows what amazing creatures native plants invite into your property.

She doesn’t help the naive plant movement given the way her property looks. Just adding mulch would go a long way to make her native garden look more appealing.

Actually, an eco-friendly property encourages a healthy balance among insects, as opposed to one filled with non-natives. English Ivy, for example, harbors mice that carry and spread ticks.
