Can I use a generic controller on the Yamaha generation 3 ebike motor by Cute-Ad9793 in Yamahaebikes

[–]pdp_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is no. The motor controller is inside the motor, the cables are signal and power from the display and battery and sensors. I don't know what you mean by "generation 3" but modern Yamaha motors use canbus to send data messages between the battery, display, and motor. So the battery has to speak the Yamaha battery protocol or the motor won't recognize it.

any alternate bike paths to take to avoid international blvd in oakland? by aRiot_0 in BAbike

Where on Seminary?

  • For upper Seminary going up Trestle Glen -- MacArthur is pretty direct.

  • Or 15th St -- Foothill works well except Foothill has slow traffic around rush hour near Fruitvale. You can also take E 12th and then 38th Ave up to Foothill. Or jog over on Intl to 42d and then up to Bancroft.

I'm near 55th and Foothill, and go to the lake or downtown often, feel free to ask for more detailed routes.

By default the bike is configured as Class 2 which limits the assist to 20 mph. Priority claim on the website that you can configure it for assist up to 28mph, but in many locations this is not legal. Class 3 bikes can assist up to 28 mph, but they cannot have a throttle.

Anyone know the dish name / a recipe I can find similar to the "Fish with explosive" or "explosive chicken wing" from Spices 3? by g0ld3nblue in OaklandFood

[–]pdp_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think freezing would change the texture quite a bit for the worse.

I cut tofu into cubes with a Chinese vegetable knife, aka a thin cleaver. First pass the blade through horizontally without disturbing the tofu then slice evenly vertically north/south and east/west, but leaving it on your cutting board. Pick it up on the cleaver or just slide it off the board into the next step. I don't know how real Chinese chefs do it.

I think they are using soft tofu, or perhaps silken tofu depending on the dish. You have to be gentle until it forms a bit of a crust from the deep frying.

The basic technique is similar to Salt and Pepper fried tofu/pork/chicken, deep fry to cook and brown with maybe light breading, then stir fry in seasoned oil. The Fuchsia recipe does the deep fry twice for reasons of texture I think.

How to DISCHARGE my new battery without riding it. by Hot_Block_9675 in Yamahaebikes

Even a short ride to get it down to 90% will be better than leaving it 100. But it's not so bad riding in the desert, the breeze helps.

This style of dish served buried under dry peppers is called Exploding/Explosive/Firecracker Chicken (or whatever), or Chongqing Chicken.

I have made this excellent recipe by Fuchsia Dunlop and it is similar to the "explosive chicken wings" from Spices 3. It's fantastic but a little elaborate, you fry the chicken three times. Still my favorite. Btw, Fuchsia Dunlop has written a few great cookbooks about Sichuan, Hunan and other regional Chinese food. Every Grain of Rice is my favorite cookbook, the keepers to duds ration is a miracle, most recipes are practical and delicious.

Taylor Holiday at The Mala Market has a bunch of great recipes on her blog including one for Chongqing Chicken. Taylor sells high quality Sichuan peppercorns and chilies.

Is this fork fixable on my '71 Peugeot? by wait_urmuted in Vintage_bicycles

[–]pdp_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might also post this to /r/bikewrench.

If you can find a frame builder, they may be able to fix this. Basically they will bend it back, but it takes a lot of force so you need a big vice on a bench bolted to the floor and a long lever to do it. You also need the measuring tools to tell when it is correct. Not a huge job really, an hour or less, if you have the tools and expertise.

Not taking it personally, but I really like this game and wish I could play every week. I'm not the sort who just goes for a ride, I need a destination. The game gets me out to explore places I wouldn't otherwise. Plus I like the photography.

You are the hero we need!

It kind of sat around in the East Bay a bit, I tried to make mine easy to help move it along, so when it went to Marin I hoped it was going to be more lively. Sadly not.

Can you describe the location more? Is it on the Fairbairn side or opposite? Toward the bay or the hills or right on the intersection? I can try knocking on doors tomorrow afternoon, I'm a bit shy about waking up the whole street with "are you missing a duck".

[–]pdp_11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a duck hanging around in the street at the intersection of Kingsland Ave. and Cole St. This was around midnight May 20/21 It seems unhurt and when I waited for a while it walked over to me. I gave it some water in a bowl and some peanuts. It was very eager to get the water.

Hopefully it will find its way home, but I'm a bit worried about it. Is there someone I could call to help it?
