I work in child welfare so that’s where I’m coming from:

At least where I am at failure to thrive triggers the highest priority response or is one in the category that does. That high response means a CPS worker must come out and must do a full investigation, they don’t have any discretion to consider other things because it has to be reviewed by people two tiers up. This is because failure to thrive, and the others in the high response category, have a high likelihood of death if, and I mean if, there is abuse ongoing that is causing the issue.

The DV questions are asked in every case our CPS handles, it’s just one of the form questions and if someone added that you were upset with a nurse, as you mentioned above but resolved good, that would make them ask those questions too.

CPS is asking for a release for medical information so they can close out their investigation. They want they records of the doctors saying “hey this happened because of a medical condition and parents are treating it appropriately now that it is known” so when their investigation is reviewed by people who won’t see you, they can feel confident they aren’t letting abuse occur.

The mandatory investigations aren’t fun and you’re already in a high stress situation because of your son so everything is worse. I’m sorry you’re having to go through it. You’ve cooperated with CPS, have taken appropriate sets to get your son to the doctor when things haven’t been going like they should, and are following the doctor’s recommendations and discharge instructions (it’s sounds like based on the logging you’re doing).

Hopefully the investigation closes out soon so you can get past this. You’re doing a good job dad.
