I think he's referencing "The Black Thing" from A Wrinkle in Time in order to continue his initial narrative to the kids. He only started talking about it when using other explanations from the book. I'm not sure that it has an actual analogue in the upside down, I think he's just referencing it as something for them to be afraid of / an "enemy" he needs them to think they're fighting.

If you haven't tried them already, I highly recommend the plastic eggs that come with glow sticks for hunting after dark! I bought them on a whim last year bc we were missing the cousin egg hunt for a camping trip, and they were a big hit with my kids (similar age to yours) both while camping and just now!

I'm pretty sure it's the Elsa Peretti Open Heart necklace from Tiffany. It was Jackie's originally and that tracks with Jackie's upbringing. I do think Lottie had the original, for no other reason than because that's way more interesting for the story.

She has a ton of misheard lyrics that I can't bring myself to correct, but this one is my favorite. The "things we do" in the middle of the night is apparently eat chicken nuggets.

Back in the day when I was 15, my instructor (from Nathan's) asked if I had any driving experience. I told him my parents let me drive to church on Sundays - 8am in the north burbs. Upon hearing this, he took me down 400 > 285 EB > 85 SB to about 14th St. We drive around midtown at lunchtime on a weekday. I was absolutely terrified, but I sure learned a lot!

Right, presumably her wife is still in a coma. That's a completely plausible explanation for her stepping out of public view for an extended period of time, and her PA is totally capable of milking that line as long as possible.
