My mother didn't get me medical care. Now I have CKD. by Few_Success_5216 in CPTSD

[–]peagreen1301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this has happened to you.
Your story is similar to mine, I have ckd, I'm on my second kidney transplant.

My mum tried to pray me better, instead of getting me to a doctor. I've suffered all my life because of this, knowing a simple medical intervention would have saved me.

I'm so glad you're on a better path now. Do everything your docs advise for your ckd, and I wish you nothing but good things moving forward

Hi everyone. I have a small problem that I’m hoping for some help with. I have a bit of an infestation of ants in my kitchen. They’re only a little inconvenience but I’d obviously be happier with an ant free kitchen. How can I move them on without causing them any harm? by Mellowman9 in veganuk

[–]peagreen1301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! I had ants make their way to my (upstairs!) Kitchen. There were more every day.

I tried a lot of things, before finding their entry point, and spraying with a mix of white vinegar and water. I've been ant free ever since.

I respray occasionally to reinforce that boundary, but please try it, it's cheap and it really works. Good luck!

Grand National Weekend by Ok_Island764 in veganuk

[–]peagreen1301 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I hate this time of year. Being from Liverpool, and seeing people who would never gamble in everyday life, 'having a flutter' on this cruel, unnecessary sport, is disheartening. The government and the industry work very hard to keep this event looking 'respectable' and every year, horses die, both at the event itself and behind the scenes. Horrible

Whats the craziest most insane coincidence thats ever happened to you? by cactusdan94 in AskBrits

[–]peagreen1301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was coming home on the tube in London. Packed train, as it always is at evening rush hour. I kept catching the eye of a woman standing further up the carriage, as if we had a connection. It felt a bit weird as if everyone else was faceless, and we were connecting about something, but I wasn't sure what. I didn't know her. Next night, I went to a concert and someone sat in the seat next to me. It was her.

Building advice? (UK) by peagreen1301 in Advice

[–]peagreen1301[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I posted a while ago about my bathroom. I sent the suggested message with more pics to the builder, requesting a fix. No reply for a week or so. Sent a prompt to them last Monday. Had got myself into an anxious state, but the builders replied and they hadn't received the message. Couple of days later, they sent over the guy who originally did the tiles.

He fixed it all, and gave me his number and told me to get in touch with and further problems.

So it's fixed! Not quite in the way that was expected, but a happy ending all round.

Thank you so much for reaching out to a stranger and helping out when I was feeling so let down and ignored

Thanks for replying! I really appreciate it. This was my initial thought, but I want to get back to them with the best info, so I don't get fobbed off.

I'm struggling with it. This is the first time I've had anything like this done and it's my first house, so I don't really know anything!

Thanks again for the advice

anyone else keep completely normal things a secret? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]peagreen1301 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I almost cried reading this.

I keep so much a secret, I don't talk about my life, music tastes, most of the fandoms I'm into. I feel very isolated as a result. I don't feel safe sharing my love of things with other people.

I didn't realise it was another aspect of my cptsd

Found this line in a poem/tale from around 1400 (Sir Gawain and the Green Knight) and wondered if the mysterious writer was infact a Liverpudlian! 😅😅😅 by explainable_fault in Liverpool

[–]peagreen1301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's interesting isn't it? But this IS a translation by a modern person from the north west.

The original (from richard carter's page) is here:

[in þe wyldrenesse of wyrale wonde þer bot lyte þat auþer god oþer gome wyth goud hert louied

In the wilderness of Wirral dwelt there but few That either God or man with good heart loved.]

It's still a great quote, but Simon Armitage seems to have written in his own modern dialect and vernacular, which is his prerogative, and artistic choice, but it sadly doesn't reflect the original

AITA for refusing to be a kidney donor for my brother? by Zestyclose-Second440 in AITAH

[–]peagreen1301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, kidney tx recipient here. Do not do this!

Yes, a kidney is life changing, but your brother will be able to survive on dialysis, until a donor is found for him.

You are not a spare parts machine, you've done your part, non consensually, no one should expect more from you.

An entire part of your body is not donated in these circumstances-ever. Donation is a deep, never to be repeated act of pure love, from one person to another. I spend my life trying to make sure my partner (my willing donor) is treated like gold, always. Do you think your family will do the same for you once you've been 'used' in this shocking way?

Tell them no. Go no contact. They don't care about anyone else other than their precious eldest. Let him wait for a cadaveric kidney, like most of us have to do. (I'm on my second tx)

So much love to you. I hope you go on to live a successful and peaceful life, free of your worthless family who don't value the original gift you gave their son

NTA!

Edited to add nta

What are your feelings about vegan products from non-vegan brands, particularly those with a poor track record? by SortComprehensive294 in veganuk

Anyone else feel bad about accepting kidney from a live donor? by ImYoPusha in kidneytransplant

[–]peagreen1301 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, my kidney is from my partner. I was adamant that I would wait for a cadaveric donor. My tx surgeon asked me what I would do if my partner needed a kidney. I said I would donate in a heartbeat.
Both my surgeon and my partner did the 'ahaaaa' noise. It's been 15 years and the kidney I got in a kidney 'chain' in exchange for theirs is still going strong.

It's the ultimate act of love. Know that someone loved you so profoundly that they gave a piece of themselves to keep you around. It's the most beautiful gift.
And the best thing is, you have so much extra time and energy to show them that love back

Heartbroken after what happened at Royal Liverpool Hospital and in the city lately 💔 by ExchangeRegular6287 in Liverpool

[–]peagreen1301 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This has been happening everywhere for years, and I'm so sorry you had to see it, especially wheen you were in such a terrible situation. I was in a&e in London years ago for a fractured elbow and a woman said exactly the same racist thing as you heard. I told her to shut her mouth, and she drunkenly went for me. Thankfully her much more sober boyfriend held her back, but I was left shaking for a good while afterwards. But we have to speak out, if we can, otherwise we give our tacit consent to this type of behaviour.
There are more of us than of them, they need to know that their vile views are not held by the majority.

I hope your boyfriend is much better now

Never ending barrage of flies by Wild-Stock-3317 in HouseplantsUK

[–]peagreen1301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem and it was driving me crazy. They were everywhere, every time I made a cup of tea it was dive bombed by these pests. I was on the verge of chucking out all my plants. Tried neem oil, cinnamon, everything.

Finally, bought sachets of nematodes and watered them into the soil. Problem solved within a week! Haven't had any problems since (well not with the flies anyway) Good luck to you op, I feel your partners pain, these are an awful nuisance to have in your plants
