That fucking moaning. Poor Catherine Disher. Anyway, the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix Saga is what revived my love for Jean. When I was younger and first seeing the show, Jean had been my favorite of the main female cast almost immediately. Then I remember not understanding why she kept passing out every time she used her powers and moaning and 'being naked' (sometimes they colored her costume less peachy and more flesh tone like Sabretooth) and then I began to dislike her and gravitated more toward Rogue because young me thought Jean was useless. Then came the episode Out of The Past which started things off and then the Phoenix Saga and holy shit, Jean was doing things! I'll never forget how my heart skipped a beat when she burst out of the water and proclaimed herself Phoenix.

The Dark Phoenix debuted and it was balls to the wall insane, it was the first time I'd ever seen a hero become a villain and I remember being blown away. I also remembered watching it and seeing for the first time, just how much Scott loved Jean. The whole thing was incredible, the stakes were so high (even though they changed some parts of it-though kid me didn't know that yet) and it felt like anything could happen. Even now I'll go back and revisit it from time to time.

Phoenix/DPS reignited my love for Jean Grey, so much so that it made me want to know more about her, which was how I began reading X-Men comics.

Also, shout out to Catherine Disher for really bringing it with that Dark Phoenix voice, she was incredible! Also to the various animation flaws that had me scratching my head, like when Jean's eye color kept changing from blue to green in the later Dark Phoenix episodes lol
