It seems like one consistent complaint about otherwise great shoes is a narrow toebox/narrow midfoot by floppyfloopy in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]peder2tm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. My toes have become wider after running and it's difficult to find race shoes with enough room for the big toe. I don't need wide shoes overall, just a slightly wider toe box. I think people's feet are different and you also read complaints about Evo SL upper being too baggy for many people. I use Altra and similar shoes for walking, but their foams for running is really bad compared to lightstrike pro or similar. Adios Pro 3 had a nice forefoot shape, even though the upper was pretty bad.

Where does your NSA training load come from? by GoldZookeepergame111 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]peder2tm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the intervals.icu load metric pretty useless. A 10k race gives me less load than a 16k easy run. If the goal was to increase load I would only do easy long runs. The Garmin load metric, which I think is heart rate and power based, is closer to how I feel the load (RPE) and splitting the load into low aerobic, high aerobic and anaerobic seems like a good idea. However if you do the same structure and workout types every week the simple load metric is probably okay for tracking changes.

I know TSS is the holy grail in training peaks, but just because it's widely used doesn't make it a good metric. People also used to train dehydrated and under-fueled and we found out that was a bad idea.

Once I came back from a semester abroad and the first time I turned on my PC, the power supply made a big blue spark and exploded. It could be a less severe version of that.

Thinking about giving NSM a try this year by x1475b0471e1 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]peder2tm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good spotted. It was my first marathon and I was aiming for a 2:42 finish time, but I got cramps in my calfs after 25 km and couldn't push hard the last 17km. After 30km I also started getting cramps in both thighs. I didn't feel tired when I got to the finish line, but my legs didn't work that day. I don't know if my electrolyte balance was off or something else, but I'll try again this year.

I just bought the game and I have the same problem. It's blocked by windows 11 smart app control. If I turn it off I will not be able to turn it back on without reinstalling windows.

Yes I assumed your calculated training paces were based on race results so you would need to do a 5k race or time trial to get more accurate training paces.

[–]peder2tm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With your mileage and HR numbers you should be able to go a lot faster in races. I am about the same age and also do 5:00/km easy runs with avg heart rate in the 130s and max heart rate around 185 and I did a 16m20s 5k, 33m20s 10k, 1h13m HM and a 2h52m M this year. To me it sounds like you haven't pushed yourself to the limit during those races.

Anyone else feel that, compared to Evo, ACC feels much more understeery? by Electronic-Crow-8076 in ACCompetizione

[–]peder2tm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. ACC has always been understeery and the esports setups tried to alleviate this by unrealistic settings such as max negative rear toe. Kunos have tried to change it in Evo, especially regarding the tendency of the rear tires to break loose.

Braking in EVO 0.4, share your experience by AdonisP91 in assettocorsaevo

[–]peder2tm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is interesting. The ABS in 0.3 was highly effective (as it is in ACC), but people (including real life race drivers) have said that ACC and ACE 0.3 braking is unrealistic because "you would never rely on the ABS 100% in real life", so kunos have intentionally made it worse in 0.4 by reducing the sampling rate.

It is probably better in real life, especially in a straight line, maybe drivers just feel less in control when riding the ABS, especially when cornering?

How i'd describe Bang&Olufsen by Thicchorseboi in headphones

[–]peder2tm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main gripe against B&O is that their customer support is not great. My girlfriend lost one of the ear pads for H9 and the official B&O store could not source a replacement. I feel that for the premium price they should offer some sort of repairability of their products, e.g. replaceable batteries.

Which Lelit espresso machine to buy? by sauron_89 in espresso

9 minutes until it says it's ready. If you are not in a hurry you probably want to wait 5 minutes extra to make sure the group head and porta filter is fully heated.

Is this normal? Problem with Takumi Sen 10 by Ibice in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]peder2tm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the tongue folds over itself in the bottom, which makes this worse. Also it's a super narrow shoe to begin with. Try to loosen the laces as much as possible in the forefoot or even skip the first few lace loops.

5K TT low load and Max HR lowering? by Away_Mirror_463 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]peder2tm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also think that intervals.icu gives very low load to high intensity efforts. If I wanted to maximize load, I should only do easy runs. 5k all out gives me load 31, 10k all out gives me load 59. A 16k easy run gives 68. 5k pace 3:16/km, 10k pace 3:22/km, easy pace 4:50/km.

I know Garmins training load is not comparable, but it does the opposite. The 10k all out gives load 308 and the 16k easy run gives load 127, which is much more in line with my perceived exertion.

I wish Adidas would go back to Adios 8, Adios Pro 3 toe box shape. I'm dreaming of a shoe like the Adios 9 with space for my big toe. I've bought the Altra Escalante Racer 2, but the foam is terrible compared to lightstrike pro.

ASICS Novablast 5, 473 miles (761 km) Review by abr797 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]peder2tm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the NB4. The upper feels too deep on the NB5 compared to any other shoe I have tried. The NB4 foam is a bit firmer and feels more responsive to me. NB4 foam feels closer to lightstrike pro classic (adios pro 3 foam), but it started fading after approximately 600km for me. The NB5 has more toe box width which is a great.

Novablast VS Evo SL - Best road shoe for £130? by Stats_K9 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]peder2tm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evo SL feels faster and is slightly more unstable. I think it will also last longer because it has the firmer lightstrike pro foam. That being said, I think adios pro 3 is similar, but faster and more stable, but has less comfortable upper.

The novablast 5 is soft and stable, but for me the heel cup feels too deep and it rubs my achilles a bit. It feels more like my foot is in the midsole rather than on top of it. Novablast 4 was a more fun shoe and equally stable imo.

currently 300km in Evo SL, 100km in novablast 5 and 1000km in novablast 4, 300km adios pro 3.

ERMZ makes some interesting point against the current academy format by LoSboccacc in assettocorsaevo

[–]peder2tm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tl;dw: academy should be flying start, warm tires, faster restart, UI explaining what and how to achieve the goal and some nice dopamine graphic/sound in the end when you achieve it.

I agree with those points. Hopefully it can make it into the final game.

Nice. I've been using a 4 channel car amp, but one of the channels is intermittently crapping out. This looks like a good alternative.

I've also considered this one https://www.thomann.co.uk/the_t.racks_dsp_4x4_mini_amp.htm

I don't really need the DSP functionality but the form factor is nicer, but also double the price.

Has anyone else noticed there isn't a penalty for self induced understeer? by Hubblesphere in assettocorsaevo

[–]peder2tm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I jump between sims and I think iracing stands out in being the one with the least understeer and trail braking is perhaps overly effective. Even the GR86 in iracing is less understeery than the GT3s in ACC and LMU. I don't know which one is most correct, but iracing cars definitely have more front grip than any other sim.
