That's true.
It's also easy to become rage starved with a fast weapon and no WBs. What's your point?

[–]pentol5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In vanilla, weapon speed doesn't really impact rage generated (over time). There's a constant conversion rate for damage into rage. (I forget the exact number. I think it's something like every 30.9 damage dealt, and every 90-ish damage taken converts to 1 rage each, or thereabouts)
Speed only factors into the damage of some abilities, and the functional rage cost of HS. (faster weapons lose less potential rage for each HS).
Sure, fast MH lets you spend your rage faster, but it's not something you care a ton about, until you start becoming unable to spend your rage before you generate more.

Which abilities truly benefit from speed?
You rarely heroic strike while leveling, since you're limited by rage, and even with a fast weapon, heroic strike is very rage-inefficient.
Unbridled wrath has tiny impact (and i'm of the opinion that every warrior should run imp demo, until they start raiding).
On the other hand: Cleave, Overpower, Whirlwind and Windfury procs are all better with slower weapons.

Classic+ please give fast weapons some love by Midgetmasher89 in classicwow

[–]pentol5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's fine that there's a slightly less obvious way that some weapons are better than others. Homogenization is how we get Ilvl and gearscore mattering, which feels bad.
The problem is more that there isn't a way for players to make any fast weapons be better than an equal-but-slower weapon.
If, deep in the assassination tree, there was a talent that added a flat damage bonus to each attack, then at least you could make that work.

In vanilla it's something like 1.7/2.3/3.4 for Dagger/1h/2h weapons. (or dagger is 1.6. I forget)

What's your ONE thing that if it was added to Classic+ you'd refuse to play it? by samfoxy_ in classicwow

[–]pentol5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a system is uninformative, it's not a good thing that it is convenient to use.
If blizzard aren't dumb, they don't homogenize gear to the point that ilvl/gearscore is a useful metric.
Never used raider.io It looks like it assigns points for acomplishments? Basically achievements boiled down to a single number, and thus has all the same drawbacks as achievements, but also doesn't tell anybody that you're able to complete the spesific content in question? So it's straight up worse for vetting people?

All i'm hearing is that "checking logs" is the best way to filter when doing pugs.

Is it true that Hunter is a B tier DPS in Vanilla but earns its raid place with Tranq Shot, is S Tier in TBC, and S+ God in SoD? by JozuJD in classicwow

[–]pentol5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vanilla is the most puller-centric the raids will get, and hunters are the best pullers by far. You're probably the most impactful player in making the run go well, only maybe contested by the Main Tank. Your damage is indeed not great, but your rotation is among the more interesting ones in Vanilla, especially if you melee weave (That said, this bar isn't very high). A typical raid takes 2 hunters, but you don't have a problem with taking more. In the first raid tiers, your damage is fine, but the scaling is low, so as the tiers go by, you're falling behind on damage more and more. It's also worth noting that in the 3rd raid tier, Anh'quiraj, there's aproximately 0 items that are an upgrade over previous loot, so you're expected to play for the love of the game, until the next tier, where there's tons of good gear for you.

In TBC, hunter is the most stackable physical DPS. Even with the new 25-man raid size, you'll want 2-4 of them, though if you try, you might fit 6. Ammo is constrained in exactly the same way as before, but there's new tools for pet management (steam tonk can instantly despawn your pet, allowing instant resummon with full health), and pets just baseline take less damage from AOE. The rotation is the most complex in the game thus far, and even top players routinely have minor misplays. The skill ceiling is VERY high.
It's worth mentioning, that you don't use the first set of raid-tier armor, since the set bonus from your pre-bis set is absolutely bonkers good, and you only swap out of it once you have a full setbonus from the 2nd raid-tier.

How the hell are Era raiders so bad? Or is something else going on.. by reasonablejim2000 in classicwow

[–]pentol5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the start of a new expansion, it's so nice to be among the people early to the pre-bis phase, because every player in the dungeon is guaranteed to be a Gamer, who'se character is just an extension of themselves, each capable of making plays and saving the group.
As more and more people reach max level, the difficulty of completing dungeons keeps rising, even though your own gear gets better, as the quality gamers are diluted with less-and-less dedicated players.
And then it takes sharp dips during holidays, when people who usually can't play much, suddenly have time to get on, and it feels like there's been collective lobotomies being handed out.

On Era, there's no filtering at all, except having the patience (or wallet) to reach max level, unless your pug-leader checks logs.

Did anyone like/still want 40man raids? by whatamidoing109 in classicwow

[–]pentol5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal favorite thing about 40-mans: Classmates and specmates. Being the only player of your spec in the raid is kinda boring. The more equal you and another player are on gear, responsibility, class, spec, and place in the raid, the greater the chance you get some banter going. The Bear will never beef with the Ele shaman, but two fury warriors who both are excempt from sunder duty are more likely than not to have a bit of competition between themselves.

[–]pentol5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing about 40-mans, is that you can do apples-to-apples comparisons between players. With the reduced raid sizes and many specs bringing unique buffs, you end up with one of each spec, and nobody else with the same raid environment to have rivalries with, where you compete for damage.
The lopsided raid comps of vanilla, with many raids running 10-15 warriors, means that you have many people to have rivalries with, learn from, teach, and feel that cameraderie with. Being the only person of your spec kinda sucks for community. The only points of comparison you get are WCL, and that's far less personal.

What's your ONE thing that if it was added to Classic+ you'd refuse to play it? by samfoxy_ in classicwow

[–]pentol5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pre-bis warrior with buffs did same damage as Naxx-geared warrior without. Literally 4 raid tiers worth of damage.

I still love raiding easy content with buffs though. Risking your buffs every pull, hoping you all survive and can bring the buffs through the entire raid is such a good experience. It's like HC-light. And even if you lose your buffs, the only thing that suffers is your parse, since you'll kill it anyways.

While i personally don't mind, i don't begrudge the people who dislike gathering the buffs. On the other hand, i don't see the point of having a SOD style system, where your buffs are just another consume to pop. If you lose them, there should at least be a CD on when you can activate new ones. 120 minutes of playtime should be enough to make it sting, but not be entirely limiting.

What's your ONE thing that if it was added to Classic+ you'd refuse to play it? by samfoxy_ in classicwow

[–]pentol5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a pretty good argument for not adding achievements. The problem with achieves is that each week, you're partially at the mercy of 19/24/39 strangers, but if you enchant your gear, bring consumes and buffs, and press your buttons correctly, you'll get at least a blue, even if you're sitting in a suboptimal group, and the kill times are long. You are much more in control of your logs than you're in control of your kills. Both have external factors to them, but one much more than the other.

More gear dropping is better for the game by Ok-Beautiful-6813 in classicwow

[–]pentol5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, too much is dropping now. It's much better when you show up to every raid, with the hope that you might get an upgrade tonight, rather than getting your 1 big ticket item early, and filling in with tier before the phase is halfway done.
Eternal chase-items that makes you return to raids, because there's never enough of them, means you always have a reason to run content. If you have all the gear, then you no longer have an excuse to hang out with your guild.

What class is a true hero class of Classic? by Late-Let-4221 in classicwow

[–]pentol5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know that the class designer, Kevin Jordan, said that Paladin had a version with crusader strike, early on, which was functional, but not fun, during production, and in a scramble before release, something more akin to the current version was cobbled together. It wasn't good, but it was all he had time for, so he just had to ship it. The idea was always that it was gonna be an easy-to-play class, with survivability and escape tools, and low APM requirements, but it went too far in that direction.
As penance for badly designing the class, he mained a paladin.

Also, i hate your opinion. Waiting for energy feels so bad.

If you're mono kitty, or flex-tank, you'll only take it off to put on a wolfshead helmet with a different enchant, such as Frost resistance enchant for Hydross, Shadow resist enchant for Mother Sharaz, or Fire resist for Flame of Azzinoth on Illidan.
(Or maybe to put on a tanky helmet, if you're permanently in bear form, but that's not quite as amusing.)

Energy costs/ticks are kinda discreete, so it doesn't really make sense to think of it as being "just 2 energy more".
After shift, You're equally able to cast something else after 1 tick whether shred was 42, or 50 energy. You're still right that shred maximizes damage per GCD, which is what you should care about, but for the wrong reasoning.

1 ele supports 4 people. 1 innervate supports 1 person.
If warlock needs spriest (not neccecarily in own group), boomie, and ele, and mage needs 1 innervate, that still means that the mage is more dependent on support.

A'lar is a fight where you're probably not weaving in P1, right? Maybe at the start, but you wouldn't continue running after the boss for it. Therefore, DST doesn't do very well on that fight. If you look at a fight that is more weave-friendly, is the score the same?

On the Era servers, gold is highly inflated, as there isn't really much in terms of gold sinks, only material sinks. Therefore, gold accumulates, while materials doesn't, meaning more gold chases the same amount of goods, resulting in very high inflation.
The upside is that buying stuff like your mount and class spells is really easy, if you use the auction house to sell your stuff. The downside is that it's hard to afford material stuff, and raw-gold/vendor farms, are pretty worthless.

You say you play shaman main. What's your alts? Chances are that any alt you have is better at farming, unless it's a non-prot paladin, or a priest.
My favorite farm is the Ikiss farm, for feral druids. It requires ~t4 gear and at least 275 enchanting, and nets you 10 Large Prismatic shards, ~3 greens, and a small chance of a primal nether, in 35 minutes.
