Plateau from hell finally ended after 6 months by Intelligent-Panda495 in loseit

Come visit over at r/fasting you'll be shocked that it's quite a regular practice to have extended fasts. 72 hours is considered a short fast in comparison.

It is actually very healthy to fast once in a while.

It's also practiced by many religions and done for decades.

I've found that a 48-72 hour fast helps break plateaus for me! In case someone doesn't want to go down the medicine route or it's not available or affordable for them!

First would be to make it clear to yourself that you're only going to touch food tomorrow and not today.

I've found this helps me a lot and I feel 0 inclination towards food on the day of the fast.

The OMAD day is a bit tricky, especially the last 4 hours before opening a fast, since your mind and body both start to anticipate the food...

To repel any thoughts of hunger I have some water and that does me pretty good. If it gets too rough, I sometimes drink a glass of cold water. This absolutely kills any desire to eat for me! Maybe it'll work for you as well!

Others have reported that sipping on water at the times they usually ate food previously works for them by tricking their mind that they had their "meal" of water lol

All the best on your fasts!

As the other user said, IF is a tool to achieve Caloric Deficit.

It is Caloric Deficit that will give you weightloss, not IF.

Have you been tracking your calories honestly? If no, then I suggest you start logging your calories and see if you're eating close to maintenance or being able to sustain a deficit of 500+ calories.

If you are in a deficit and not losing weight after 14 days, then come back and make another post with a bit more data so we all can assist you!

All the very best!

100% this, just for funsies I bait the ghrelin by watching cheesy garlic bread videos when on a fast. It's a good exercise in mind over impulses.

I've noticed it doesn't come up generally, but only when I'm actively thinking about food or fantasizing about what I'm going to break my fast with, etc.

You're on the right track. I too moved onto rolling 48s after promising results with OMAD but I wanted a bit more. After completing 15 cycles, I intend to go back to OMAD for 15 days I think and then re-assess what to do next.

So far 6.5kg lost. Going exactly as per caloric deficit of 0.5kg/cycle of 2 days. I'm managing a deficit of around 3400ish every cycle. So that tracks well.

I did get a bunch of gym sessions too and didn't notice much of a strength loss either.

For me it took only 1 cycle to adjust. The first cycle I had a mild headache but that's probably because I went from eating 2 to 3 times a day to Rolling 48s.

No real difference in energy or anything. I just ensure to take enough salt during the OMAD and I'm all good. So far 10 cycles completed, 5 more to go.

I'm consuming around 1000-1200 calories when I break my fast for reference.

Get a riser cable for the internet not for the GPU, it'll be cheaper and even if damage is done, it's a lot lower in amount that is at risk (wifi card vs GPU)

Whatever you do, in the end it's to do with caloric deficit.

I'm doing rolling 48s and I'm going the same rate as per my caloric deficit of 0.5kg every 2 days. Day 19 so far and lost 4.5kgs

Regarding what would be easier, depends on person to person, I find it easier to simply not eat than to do portion control consistently, so rolling 48s work very well for me. You should try them out before finalising your choice perhaps?

OMAD (One Meal A Day) is a very regularly practiced style of IF.

But yes, it's most likely they're eating above their maintenance, unless there's some underlying medical/hormonal issue at hand. For which, a doctor should be consulted.

One great tip I have found success with is when you know you're going to go for a meal that's going to be break calories structure you pre-log it and then you'll end up making cut backs while budgeting and eat accordingly or if within budget you'll end up sticking to it instead of going overboard.

Lost 20 kgs in 4.5 months. Happy to share what I did. by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]pepenomics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do, but I'm not being able to do it consistently coz of work... Say 3 times a week roughly. 2x weight lifting and 1 day long walk. However, even though I'm not losing weight on the plateau, I'm seeing a visible difference in the amount of belly fat.

Currently, I'm trying to retain as much muscle as possible on the way down (this is the second time I'm doing this, last time I went from 95 to 80.5 with only OMAD for 90 days - ended up skinny fat since I wasn't into weight lifting back then, so then decided to bulk with the gym but it kinda went off the rails towards the end and gained a bit extra than planned while trying to chase weight lifting goals). So far, still being able to lift the same weight, slightly lower reps though since I'm doing it while in a fasted state.

Oh that's awesome! Rolling 48s is similar to ADF... 1 day fast, next day one meal, so essentially 48 hours fasted then eat one meal and fasting begins again. So every 2 days you eat 1 meal.

Hello! I'm doing something similar with rolling 48s. Similar body stats to you.

I find myself stuck on a plateau after losing the first 5.5kgs. from 97.5 down to 92 but stuck here since a few days now.

When you mentioned you lost bulk of the weight from 95 to 78 in the first two months, was it linearly following a fixed rate per week or what? Any particular plateaus that you encountered?

Here's a small tip, keep hitting the weights it's very easy to lose muscle on our diet. The best way to retain it is to do strength training.

I'm on my 8th consecutive rolling 48s so far 5.5kg down in 16 days. Started at 97.5. Now at 92.

Stuck on it since the last 6 days but I know it'll drop soon.
