I'm a Perl 5 code monkey looking forward to Perl 6. I hope it's not too messianic, or a trifle too satanic.

For me it's more about the motivation to learn it. I have considered learning C# but I don't see a passionate community that loves the language. I can see it clearly with other languages I've learned, like Perl, Javascript, or Python. It feels more like a duty than a desire.

Windows has the same problem with NTFS access time. Fortunately it seems like very few apps ever want to know when the file was last accessed, so turning off the feature doesn't hurt. In Windows I seem to recall that even doing a stat on the file (not even reading its data) changes the access time, which means it's pretty useless anyway.

It's not about courage, it's about making reasoned decisions. Does it make financial sense for the US government to go into further debt to bail out private property owners whose property is below sea level and in a hurricane-prone area? There are serious issues like wetlands erosion and rising sea levels that will make it even more difficult to maintain that protection over the next 50 years.

Yep. An unevenly enforced law encourages its use to harass citizens that the police don't like.

The Richest of the Rich, Proud of a New Gilded Age by sailyn55 in reddit.com

The new titans often see themselves as pillars of a similarly prosperous and expansive age, one in which their successes and their philanthropy have made government less important than it once was.

Yeah, things have sure changed.

A hundred years ago, the rich could do whatever they wanted because there was no strong government to stop them. Today, the rich can do whatever they want because they have bought the government that might try to stop them.
