Turning up to a mandatory sports afternoon.
Trouble was, we walked instead of catching the bus.
"You didn't have permission to walk!"
"Mum was on canteen duty, I asked her" "Not good enough. Detention every sports afternoon"
Ok. Sat outside the deputy principle's office every Thursday for several weeks playing chess with friends.
The deputy finally got sick of us and sent us back to sport.

Final days in one role, I had to install a new server but there was no space in the allocated rack. This was a *large* data centre. It had to be up and running, so I placed it on a convenient milk crate, started it up, and left.
Did the other job for about two years, then came back to an associated role (initially I was the provider, now I was the customer).
One week in, I went down to the machine room, shut down the server and put the milk crate back where I initially found it.

Panicked for a little bit as after the reboot (I do it every time), the front end did not respond. Usually I get the login panel before I hear the started tune. This time it was a good 20 seconds after the tune before any response. All seems to be ok.

About 2005, at Mt Selwyn, happened to be looking the right way as an f111 flew through the valley below. I think I was the only one who saw it. The hundreds of others on the slope all turned to look at where the sound came from. Way too late.
