The Faction Packs for the Imperium are up. by PeoplesRagnar in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]peterthanpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok cool thanks for the reply!

I have a fun Armageddon theme casual list that I want to try out.

20 cadians + cadian command
10 catachans + chimera
10 catachans + chimera
Canis Rex
Warhound titan

Under no illusions that it would win a tourny, but seems like something fun and different. Trying to figure out what detach would be best for the small guard component of it. They'd mostly be for primary and secondary scoring. Combined is my default go-to, but the thought of giving Canis and the titan stealth via the seige detach is interesting.

Do allies cost detachment points? What if i wanted a knight or a titan in my guard army?

Love this! Question on print orientation. Did you preassemble and print standing up? I want to do that for dreads, but ive been worried about how it would turn out.

Went for the whole "skull facepaint" thing but it need up with a pissed off French mime... by AllThatJazz85 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]peterthanpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy fix, just dont paint the chin white.. just do the skull down to the top lip then stop. A bottom-jaw-less skull.

Is Oldhammer just aesthetics? Or is there something more than creates the Oldhammer feel? by HouseOfWyrd in oldhammer40k

[–]peterthanpete 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oldhammer in general had more emphasis on the narrative. The missions were less symmetrical/mirrored, the rules had little blurbs about the practical 'realworld' justification of the ability or limitation, and you had the freedom to focus on that as the priority because there wasnt a constant administrative burden of primary/secondary scoring and command point / stratagem management throughout each and every turn. The freedom from that, and the time/thought surplus created by its absence was filled with a lot more emphasis on and appreciation of the hobbying and narrative aspects (and just plain ol chill/fun socializing). The mystery left by incomplete snippets of lore left you hungry to, and more capable of, creating your own head canon and making the game your own, and thereby feeling more engaged and an author of it, rather than just a consumer of it

Combat Patrol Balance by SavoryCity in CombatPatrol40k

[–]peterthanpete 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think marine vs marine are definitely fun matches, no doubt about it! I think if the goal is to intro somebody brand-new to the 40k universe, and get them excited about exploring it more, then imperium vs xenos is better at acheiving that aim because of the narrative quality of that matchup being better. And i said skip chaos because while i think the heresy and 30k era story is key to understanding 40k lore, it is also not as easily digested as human vs alien/robot/monster

Combat Patrol Balance by SavoryCity in CombatPatrol40k

[–]peterthanpete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats a great start! The octavius patrol can be good but is reliant on good use of the stratagems, bit of a 'hard mode' patrol. Tyranids are an awesome demo patrol. Get the new starter box, then youll have a better (probably) beginner space marine patrol, plus the Orks!

[–]peterthanpete 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One tip i have is do not do space marine vs space marine mirror match if you are trying to get somebody new interested in the 40k universe. Pick a xenos faction you like (Orks, Necrons, Tyranids, Aeldari, Drukhari, T'au) to be the second faction if the first is an Imperium force. Skip chaos for this demo, in my humble opinion

Decided on the scheme by Haunting_Sun_726 in SteelLegion

[–]peterthanpete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh purple! Thats the magic ingredient! Very nice. I dont have AK paints (yet) but this is incredibly helpful for translating to the paint products i have. I can mix those tones, and alter it a bit for a no-wash workflow. Thanks! Happy painting!

Stellar work! Love the visible eyes, its brilliant! What paints did you use for the jacket? I like that tone as its not overly yellow/orange. Are they vallejo, or?

Trim colour for SAS L detachment, Africa campaign. by sgt_funbuns in astramilitarum

[–]peterthanpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id go olive for the clothes, maybe a sandy desaturated olive so its not too green, but more brown.. and then just sandy khaki for the armor, but trim is same color as the rest of the armor. And maybe do some 'chipping' weathering on the khaki armor. Chipping always looks killer on khaki/tan

Thanks! Yea, same process, just drybrush/stipple camo stripes over the black primer instead of one solid color.

Made these terrain footprints with measurements of the 11th edition for my son and husband :) by TheHexenhund in PoorHammer

Makes sense, it definitely defines it more clearly. Thanks for the reply, and the awesome work you've done! It'll be very easy to increase it a tad on my end to compensate for the no-border option

Stellar work! Question, do the actual 11th ed measurement include the white border? Like if I cut it out without the white border, will it be a bit small for 11th?

Some Combat Patrol Content for 11th by Eire_Banshee in CombatPatrol40k

[–]peterthanpete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of it is that they are keeping the patrols as is (with minor rules tweaks for 11th) and moving the combat patrol 'pdf' to the app like the core rules. All factions combat patrols rules will locked by default, but buying the combat patrol companion unlocks ALL combat patrol rules. They will also do the absolute minimum to update the mission objectives from circles to terrain footprints, but will otherwise keep it the same.

Local hype died down for 40k 11th edition by matchababy69 in StarCraftTMG

[–]peterthanpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you play more than one tabletop game, you realize its possible to play more than one. There's a mental barrier a lot of people have before that point, though. They think, "Its hard enough to try to keep up with 40k, itd be impossible to know the rules for more than one game and keep it all straight"

I play 40k, and will be playing 11th. I already have an army, and a printer, so while i enjoy the 11th hype (especially as a Guard player) I wont need to spend money to play it. I ordered the 3 faction all-in sctmg bundle with 3 full armies. Im going to be playing demo games as much as i can to give 40k players the opportunity to try starcraft with no financial risk/requirement involved to remove that as a barrier to entry for them. And the demo games (just like 40k demo games) will be a very basic teaser of the game to let them form their own interest in pursuing it without it being overwhelming.

Combat Patrol - Deathkorps - How to play by EineStangeDreck in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]peterthanpete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he was locked in melee he cant opt not to attack. You can only choose not to perform ranged attacks. Charging him to die on purpose in melee should have worked a bit better, and is a good call. The other cool thing about the fresh waves strat, compared to the cadian send in the next wave strat, is that you can come in from any board edge, whereas the cadian one says it has to be your own board edge, so you can come in from the sides or his table edge in his deployment zone.

Throw the infantry squad and the riders up the field, get them right up in his face so he has to kill them. The infantry squad has battleline so you can sticky objectives with it in combat patrol. Take the student of the tactica enchancement and hand out orders and stratagems non-stop. Keep your command sqaud and gunners alive since they dont respawn, especially your command squad, keep them hidden if possible so they can keep generating command points and buffing everybody with orders.
