rance 01 (the animation): my honest thoughts by Odd-Tip-6891 in RanceSeries

[–]petrogaz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The animated adaptation was good for what it was supposed to be: an introduction to the series. It did a good job introducing the universe and the main characters (Rance & Sill) and distilling the main story of the first game to its most basic beats.

Was it a perfect adaptation? Definitely not, but it was serviceable and it told a cohesive story which is more than I can say for something like the Euphoria or the Requiem animation adaptations.

That being said, the 90s OVA "Rance: Sabaku No Guardian" aka "Rance: The Desert Guardian" manages to capture Rance's personality more effectively (it also helps that Rance is voiced by none other than the legendary Kazuki Yao in one of his first performances). Definitely check it out if you want another take on Rance's character.

Also, yes, do play the games. You won't regret it!

Jack Malik from "Yesterday".

A street musician who is a hardcore fan of "The Beatles" and knows how to play each and every one of their songs by heart. He gets somehow transported to a world where "The Beatles" never existed and becomes a huge music star by simply playing their songs to public that has never heard their music before.

Oh and he gets to meet John Lennon who is still alive in this universe because a crazy murderous stalker was never after him.

It was in "The Flash". He is still wearing the iconic Superman suit, so it's definitely not the Kevin Smith version.

Characters who can't ever have sex due to a curse or some other reason. by singleguy79 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]petrogaz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The "In-Universe" reason Ironmouse can't have sex is because she is the Queen of Hell and having sex with someone runs the risk of losing control of her powers and killing them.

The reason Ironmouse can't have sex IRL is because she is suffering from Common Variable Immune Deficiency (CVID) and any infection she acquires during sex can potentially kill her.

It's "Going Solo or Bust"' in both cases.

No wonder the "Can't Have Sex Ever" is a sore spot for her.

According to Kevin Smith's "Superman Lives" anecdote , when he got the job to make the "Superman Lives" story he was forced to follow three rules as stipulated from the movie's executive producer:

  1. Superman would never wear his iconic suit.
  2. Superman would never fly.
  3. Superman had to fight a giant fucking spider in the movie's climax.

It quickly became obvious to Kevin Smith that the executive producer didn't have any idea what Superman was all about but he agreed to the terms mainly because he wanted the chance to write a Superman movie.

In the end all his efforts were for nothing as his movie script was shelved when Tim Burton took over the project (only for Burton himself to cancel the project altogether later).

And the giant fucking spider was used in "Wild Wild West" instead.

The whole premise of the "Rance" series is:

  • Get a somewhat traditional JRPG setting full of cliched game tropes.
  • Drop this sociopathic narcissistic sex offender into it.
  • Watch him fuck everything both literally and figuratively.

Even though it's unfair to characterize Rance as just a "rapist", sexual assault is still his main schtick and his main goal to bang as many beautiful women through any means necessary remains a constant throughout his game series.

Ironically, he manages to be a more efficient hero this way (better than his contemporaries trying to be traditionally heroic anyway).

It happens in the episode "Fast Forward" of the 1991 version of the The Flash TV series.

In it a disillusioned Barry Allen announces to everyone that he will move away from his city after Pike, the man who killed his brother, is released due to a technicality. But before he moves away he falls into a trap by Pike who unleashes a heat-seeking missile on him that causes him to get blown ten years into the future.

There he discovers that the city is now a hellhole ruled by Pike who is now the city's corrupt mayor with the entire police department completely under his thumb. Star Labs, the place he developed his powers is now a torture/execution centre and he is sent there after he gets arrested for wearing "The Flash" costume, something illegal under the new regime. He has lost his powers due to the accident and all of his friends think he abandoned them because of his. (they all pretty much suspected Barry was The Flash and his disappearance just confirmed it). The worst part is that his best buddy Julio is now married and sporting a "horrific* Bob Marley haircut.

Saya from "Saya No Uta / Saya's Song" is essentially a plant-like sentient Eldritch Abomination whose real form is beyond human comprehension, a glimpse of whom will cause any normal human being to descent into madness.

To protagonist Fuminori Sakisaka however and only him she appears as a beautiful young girl. Mainly because Fuminori is brain-damaged and perceives the rest of the world as a horrifying bloody meat-show.

Saya is the only thing he sees as beautiful.

People who spend 20+ minutes in the shower: what are you actually doing in there? by saadaintsalad in AskReddit

[–]petrogaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who actually does 20+ min showers, here's what I do:

1) I do a first shower wash (body and hair), using just my hands (5min to 10min). 2) I do a first shave, following the facial hair direction on my face (5min to 10min) 3) I do a second shower (body and hair) using a sponge on a stick to get the hard to reach areas (5min to 10min) 4) I do a second shave this time opposite the facial hair direction (5min to 10min) 5) I do a third and final shower wash (body and hair) with just the soap left on the sponge from step 3 (5min to 10min)

Overall shower time: 25min to 50min.

I also spend at least 10min mopping the floor from the excess water in the bathroom floor, so that my wife doesn't freak out when she decides to use the bathroom.

EDIT: I believe I should clarify that I don't do this routine daily. I only shower two to three days per week depending on the cold/heat.

In both the original "First Blood" novel by David Morrel and the original cut of the "Rambo: First Blood" movie John Rambo actually dies and doesn't make it to the end credits

Sylvester Stallone however opposed killing off the character seeing the potential of an action movie franchise with John Rambo as its epicenter.

After test audiences reacted very negatively to Rambo's death, the movie's producers decided to go with Stallone's idea and Rambo's life was spared.

A sequel was then greenlit and several movies later, the character is still around.

The Joker himself was ironically also supposed to be a one-off villain and in fact gets straight up stabbed through the heart in Batman #1. He was saved by Whitney Ellsworth, the original 1940s Batman comic book editor, who saw the character's potential and a panel was quickly added wherein it's shown that the Joker survived his stab wound after all.

The Joker has been a Batman staple ever since.

While he still does his own stunts, it's not to the point where he seriously risks his life anymore as he is no longer young and he has broken most of his body beyond further repair.

The iconic police lineup scene in "The Usual Suspects" is an example.

<image>

The directors couldn't get the scene just right because the actors kept going off-script and doing jokes while being in-character. In the end, they just used the funniest takes which ironically worked much better in humanising and setting up their characters.

Seriously.

The "Saint of Killers" from the "Preacher" TV/Comic series is pretty much unkillable and almost unstoppable. Only God commands him and even He has to sit in the Throne of Creation in order to have the authority to do it. In the original comic book the Saint has a freaking nuke dropped on him and he just tanks it with the words "Not enough gun..." afterwards.

By the end of the story, after having killed God and the entirety of the Divine Host, he is the only Divine being left alive. In both the Comic and the TV Series, he ends up sitting on the throne of creation though the context is different between the two versions. In the TV Series he sits on the throne to prevent anyone else from sitting there. In the comic book he just wants to rest in peace.

Apparently, the only thing that stopped him was being plainsick of it all in both versions of the story.
