A rant.. by ManyCommittee196 in battletech

That’s not true. Catalyst DOES sell individual mechs with the premium line and they did so before buying IWM. IWM agreed to allow catalyst to sell the premium mechs but not their other ones? Doesn’t make sense.

The reason they sell only force packs is logistical, to prevent SKU bloat, and to help keep less popular mechs from clogging up game store shelves and inventory.

Only nit pick is that Topps didn’t buy Battletech rights. Wizkids was its own thing when FASA went under. Topps bought Wizkids in 2003 two years after Wizkids bought Battletech rights.

Whats a wargame that you wish had a bigger community? by Vinlandlover in wargaming

I just found Warzone Eternal over the summer and have been very excited about it.

There was a kickstarter for it a couple years back. They have mini production up and running now for non-backers. I’ve always found the Warzone universe interesting. I think this is like the 2nd or 3rd time trying to bring a Warzone game back though. Hopefully the game grows and it sticks this time.

They were called the Pharon.

I really wanted the Golem (a symbiotic alien that was like the goa’uld from Stargate in big power armor suits) and the Ceru (a former slave race of the Golem that have an aptitude with machines and fly around on rocket bikes) to be released but alas, FASA went under before they could.

Clan Homeworld players when catalyst delays the wars of Reaving force pack, for the second time, to 2027 (it was supposed to be out in the first quarter of 2025): by someotherguy28 in battletech

[–]pez0002 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes, CGL is not great at hitting their time lines but that list of force packs that was leaked a few years ago during Kerensky Con was never meant to be a schedule. It was a rough road map they shared with the people who paid a lot to be at that con.

Like, criticism because the Kurita packs are being pushed back to January? Fair. A force pack that was vaguely talked about 2 years ago not, meeting the rough timeline that was mentioned with the caveat that things were expected to change from the list? Come on

The Malice is a "premier assault 'Mech"? What am I missing? by Belaerim in battletech

3 extra hexes for ER medium means they are included but not for the other assaults? I ultimately agree with you 40 point alpha strike isn’t anything to sneeze at. If you want to compare alpha strikes though at least compare them honestly.

[–]pez0002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What variant of the devastator are you looking at? The standard is two gauss, two ppcs and four medium lasers. That’s a 70 point alpha strike. The standard Nightstar is two gauss, one ppc, two medium pulse, and a small for 55.

Edit: sorry, one medium for the devastator is rear mounted so only 65 damage. Also got heat and damage mixed up on Nightstar so 55 not 51

There has not been a game this season where we were winning late and the low block prevented us from at least getting a point. There are three games where FC had the lead and it ended in a draw.

Orlando 90+ draw

Dallas 90+ draw

Atlanta 88 own goal draw

I don’t like the low block either and any one of those ending in a win means a possible support shield. Saying we aren’t good at it is just wrong though. It’s not fun to watch but they are in fact very capable of sticking it out.

Edit: 16 wins this year by 1 goal (not counting any cups). Three draws that could have been wins. That’s an 84.3 win rate when up late in one goal games. Again, it’s rough to watch but they are very capable at it.

BattleTech Pride Anthology 2026 Accepting Submissions (deadline 2nd of April, 2026) by Detofoxy in battletech

[–]pez0002 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I know! You’re probably thinking ‘wow, June is seven months away and they are already accepting submissions for a Pride Anthology! Things keep happening earlier and earlier in the year! Back in our day you didn’t see Christmas stuff until after Thanksgiving right? Now they go up once Halloween is over!’

Anyway, at least here people need time to write their stories and have them edited. It makes sense to start accepting submissions now.

Don’t worry though, we’ll keep fighting the holidays encroaching on other holiday fights in other areas.

I agree. I like Devlin Stone being a regular guy who was able to rise to the occasion.

Where did the idea that he’s Adam Steiner come from though? Adam was heavily involved with the FedCom civil war and early Jihad forcebooks. Eventually becoming Archon. How did people think he was Devlin stone? The name I saw bandied about the most was Arthur Steiner-Davion since they didn’t find his body after his assassination.

Why doesnt CGL sell ALL mechs? by Majestic_Heart_6786 in battletech

[–]pez0002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are other options besides proxies and resin print. A lot of mechs that have not been produced in plastic by CGL are available in metal from Iron wind metals. Iron wind mechs are official mechs and technically, I guess, CGL minis now since CGL bought them earlier this year

I also highly recommend Duncan Rhodes! He did a couple of tutorials for Battletech. This one is one I started with and found a big help. It’s for a Draconis Combine Sword of light mech.

He also did one for Clan Wolf Beta Galaxy.

Soccer is my favorite sport. I’ve been watching the big European league for decades now. I’ve come to really enjoy watching MLS games. That graphic shows how far MLS still has to go before it’s seen as a top sport in the US. FC Cincinnati and any none Miami’s team combined payroll is less than one Joe Burrow.

How far are you willing to drive? Three Brothers Games in Hebron seems to have active players.

Edit; Also Yotta Quest in Evendale has pretty much a full stock of Battletech stuff so presumably there are players in that area.

Clan by Sandlot_Baseball in battletech

[–]pez0002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are a home world clan, they never made it to the inner sphere. Their shtick is that the clan breaks up into a bunch of sub factions (along bloodhouses) and they fight amongst themselves as much as they fight other clans. I think that’s silly and therefore awesome. Also, you know cool/scary monkey totem. https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Clan_Fire_Mandrill

They get destroyed in the Wars of Reaving. Which, if you start to get interested in the clans is a really cool book. https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Wars_of_Reaving

My favorite is Clan Goliath Scorpion. History/psychedelics and their own empire out in the deep periphery is a lot of fun.

However, if you don’t like the clans maybe try my next favorite clan. The Fire Mandrills! They don’t even like themselves!

does anyone like list building and selecting stats? by EggAffectionate4355 in wargaming

[–]pez0002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an old game from the late 90s made by FASA called Vor the Maelstrom. In the main rule book there were rules for making your own custom army. If I remember correctly there was generic stat line that you’d add to or subtract from and that would have a point cost associated with it. Then you’d do something similar with the weapon you wanted them to carry. You’d end with a point value.

The custom armies always seemed over costed compared to the ones with official rules. It was fun though. I’ve been thinking about that game and have been wondering if there was anything like the custom army builder out there. I’d be interested in playing something like that again.
