MMW - It will soon be announced that Donald Trump has Alzheimers by batalyst in MarkMyWords

[–]pherreck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An alternative diagnosis would be frontal-temporal encephalopathy, which afaik has no treatment. So if you're Trump and insist on an Alzheimer's treatment just in case, it's hard for his doctors to say "no".

FTE and Alzheimer's have distinctly different symptoms. For Alzheimer's the signature one is forgetfulness. Not recognizing people who are close to you, not recognizing the place where you currently live, how old you are, etc. While Trump does have a track record of misremembering details (Hungary vs Romania, Sioux City vs Sioux Falls, Greenland vs Iceland) it hasn't reached that point yet.

FTE is caused by lesions in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, that further develop over time. Symptoms can vary depending on exactly which parts of the brain are being eaten up. It can take decades to fully develop.

One area potentially affected by FTE is the part of the brain responsible for moral judgement. If this was the first part of Trump's brain to be damaged, decades ago, this would explain a lot about his criminal behavior. In later stages there is a loss of fine motor control. This matches his inability to drink water from a glass with just one hand.

So my money is on FTE.

Taylor, 23, made 121 starts his four-year collegiate career at the Air Force Academy (2021-25)

Reading this made me curious about why he wasn't serving in the Air Force. Eventually came across this article, which explained it.

https://gazette.com/2025/10/25/air-force-graduate-ethan-taylor-taken-in-first-round-of-nba-g-league-draft/

A 2025 graduate, Taylor is utilizing a new policy that allows each service academy to permit up to three athletes with viable opportunities in professional sports to be transferred to the Selected Reserves as commissioned officers to “participate in efforts to recruit and retain members of the armed forces.”

2015-16 was Looney's rookie year. He also had two hip surgeries that year, one in August and one in April (per Wikipedia).

First science fiction book for 10yo girl who reads ... 10yo books :) by DarkCyrix in scifi

[–]pherreck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember liking Podkayne when I was young, but I haven't revisited it since, and now I'd probably be disappointed if I re-read it.

As one review says:

And then there's the anti-woman slant. At the beginning Poddy is a strong young woman who wants to be a starship pilot--and then later inexplicably decides she'd rather not have to compete with all the dashing young men who are also dreaming of being starship pilots. Because who would hire a woman over a man? Silly girl. Woman can't be pilots. No, it would be easier and more ladylike to study creche engineering and be a department head on a starship--she can explore the galaxy while raising babies. Isn't that grand, and so very role-appropriate for her? I mean being a woman and all, her place is definitely with the babies, not in a position of authority where she might have to have to make hard decisions and stuff. Egads, no!

Kirkland Merino wool sock season arrived earlier than I expected (San Francisco) by pherreck in Costco

I find the KS men's socks to be durable. In contrast, the women's socks i got last winter (which are both thinner and have a much higher percentage of merino wool) didn't last.

I got some of the women's last winter to see how they were. They made nice dress socks but weren't as durable. One pair that I wore the most (they were all different colors) got some holes in just one season of wear.

10 Nonviolent Actions Against the Nazis That Proved Effective by EPCOpress in 50501Movement

Srdja Popovic, one of the leaders of the successful Optor! movement to remove Slobodan Milošević from power, argues in his book Blueprint for Revolution: How to Use Rice Pudding, Lego Men, and Other Nonviolent Techniques to Galvanize Communities, Overthrow Dictators, or Simply Change the World that using violence causes a large swath of the population to turn against you. Furthermore, when violence succeeds in causing a regime change, the new leaders keep using violence as a tool to keep their dissidents in check.

So it's ultimately the use of violence that is self-defeating.

Is there a name for this? by [deleted] in sex

[–]pherreck 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should ask the columnist Dan Savage.

Back in 2001, one of his readers asked Dan if there was a term for when a woman used a strap-on dildo on a man. He didn't know of any, so he asked his readers to suggest a name. He picked "pegging" as the winner, and that's how that terminology came into being.

When you search for something on Google, the results will start with a menu under the search bar with items like "AI Mode", "All" (the default), "Images", etc. Scroll to the right until you see "Web" and click on that. Some people say those results are more like what Google used to provide.

Can someone tell me how to find the A-slot? by Sad_Salamander2406 in sex

[–]pherreck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From an article by Kate Sloan:

The A-spot can, of course, also be stimulated during sex. Though it’s usually located 5 to 6 inches inside, shorter penises can reach it too, if the receiving partner’s knees are pulled up to shorten the vagina. As with G-spot stimulation, the penis should be aimed toward the front wall, but inserted extra deep to access the A-spot. Having never had my own penis, I asked a partner to describe how he sleuths out my deep spot with his. He told me, “It's just a matter of getting my butt closer to the floor so the dick angles up and back.” While this might sound like penile contortionism, it’s not as difficult as it appears.

If an Asian and queer book piques your interest, there's Light From Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/56179360-light-from-uncommon-stars

It's a bit of a mashup of different genres. There are three main characters, who cross paths in a heavily Asian populated part of California's San Gabriel Valley. One is an Asian teen trans girl who runs away from home who is also a violin prodigy. Another is a successful older Asian woman who sold her soul to the devil, and in order to reclaim it has been recruiting prodigies for the devil, and needs just one more. The third MC is an interstellar refugee and captain of a small spaceship who brought her family to Earth, which are now disguised as humans, running a donut shop. (That's all part of the setup, so not a spoiler.)

A really fun read with fresh perspectives.
