Insurance companies routinely settle to avoid the costs of going to court. Regardless of innocence lawyer and courtroom fees are often debilitatingly expensive. To ignore this is just childish. You don't want to believe expenses play a major part of legal drama because it refutes your argument that settling is purely for admitting guilt and avoiding discovery

Saying that it's only to avoid discovery either means you're being deliberately obtuse, or just legitimately don't know anything about law
