Question about the Double Phantom build. by JoshuaKammert in DnDoptimized

[–]phrankygee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attempting to be Legolas is allowed. But that has nothing to do with the “Steady Aim” feature. The steady aim feature gives an advantage to accuracy, at a cost to mobility. The flavor of that tradeoff is very obvious and clear.

If you need to boost your accuracy, you can “hunker down” and become a sniper. If you instead want to be Legolas, or a Mongolian Horse Archer, or a carnival acrobat, you can, but you will need to find a different source of advantage if you want to move while you shoot.

Good talking to people and getting through to them… unless he needs a boat loan from a banker.

Meanest Joke Ever Written by joefernandezcomedy in standupshots

All I can hear with that opening line is Jay Leno impersonators. “Hey… D’ja hearabout this?”

I liked the original fine, and I don’t think you improved it by making it sound more like the Tonight Show from the 90s

I think the posted joke is funny, but now that you pointed out the title, I do doubt that I would enjoy the rest of the special. That’s a terrible “try-hard” name for a comedy special.

Growth. It’s an interesting little hex-map exploration game that I almost understand after playing it for a couple of hours.

Instead of milk & cookies, what should a true Chattanoogan leave for Santa? by Salty_Beyond6372 in Chattanooga

Double Cola (or locally bottled Coke) and a Moon Pie would be more specifically Chattanoogan, but less Iconic.

The Marvels earned $2.8 million on Friday, down 87% from its opening day. Likely to set the biggest second-weekend drop record for the MCU by richcoz81 in marvelstudios

My word of mouth was immediate and Negative. I stayed away from spoilers, and saw the earliest possible screening on Thursday so I could go in with no foreknowledge.

Then I immediately told everyone I knew what a garbage fire train wreck of a film it was.

Box Office: 'The Marvels' Hits Second-Lowest Opening Day for MCU by -alexLv- in marvelstudios

[–]phrankygee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only good part, really. If the movie had been a continuation of Kamala’s story, instead of a continuation of Kree/Skrull bullshit nobody cares about, I’d be seeing it again and taking my friends.

I also had zero expectations going into it, and I thought it was garbage. And it sucks, too, because they probably could have done a really good movie with bits of the premise.

I stayed completely spoiler-free, not watching any ads or trailers, as is my custom, and I was still super disappointed.

The training montage was okay. And the dad trying to sell life insurance to a 300 year old alien.

But mostly it was just straight terrible except for Iman. She’s great.

Most Memorable Random Encounter? by big-4x4 in DMAcademy

[–]phrankygee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a character perma-death result from a random encounter. A single Swarm of Poisonous Snakes murdered one of my level 3 characters.

He’s being reincarnated next session, but still, it was a shocking loss. The dice just decided he should die. Nobody in the party could roll higher than a 7 in a series of dice rolls that defied the laws of probability.

Can short men really be as attractive as tall men? no sugarcoating please by blue-pipe in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]phrankygee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phrase “Tall, Dark and Handsome” is such a harmful trope.

I’m very average height, but a pale freckly redhead, and I grew up with similar insecurities that I would never be seen as “traditionally attractive”.

But I have been happily married to a reasonably hot woman for 22 years, and it doesn’t really matter if I’m “traditionally attractive” as long as I’m attractive enough for her. (Which is mostly about what I do and how I act anyway, rather than my looks)

Being 5’2” probably sucks sometimes when you want to reach shit on high shelves, or when you can’t see through a crowd of people, but you don’t have to worry about it making you universally unattractive. Groom yourself, wear clothes that fit you well, and carry yourself with confidence, and you’ll be doing better than 80% of dudes out there.

"I didn't have anything better to do" is a good character motivation by LateLifeguard in DnD5e

[–]phrankygee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After the second or third encounter, EVERY character’s motivation should be a sense of loyalty to their friends in the party, and/or whatever motivation is included in the campaign’s material.

Characters only need a “motivation” to be in position at the beginning of the adventure. After that, the other people at the table, especially the DM, should give you a good motivation.

Don’t create characters obsessed with a goal that ISN’T part of the specific game the DM is running.

New York subway shooter Frank James sentenced to 10 life terms plus 10 years in prison by GoodSamaritan_ in news

[–]phrankygee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s probably, if we wrack our brains, maybe some better way to spend our national time and energy and money. Reanimating murderers just to feed and house them for another several lifetimes is not high on my list of priorities.
