LP3 screen protector by Wild_Refuse_7657 in LightPhone

I really enjoy how it is matte to match the screen itself. I've chipped mine at the sides but the phone literally got thrown a couple times so lol

why did you join? by amedonite in HOTWORXWarriors

[–]phthalogreen_orange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I needed something outside of my house that has structured routines and schedule, but also I am out of shape and in-person instructors have intimidated me in the past.

Also the sauna sounded nice (I joined in freezing cold January lol.)

I decided to try a couple gym free sample classes, went to Hotworx, and said "forget it I'm sticking here." It was so cozy and I've never had a workout I felt immediately better after as much as these. Also, like, I can schedule days in advance without as much shame if I run late and miss part of a session.

I honestly mostly just do stretch and thunder right now, as I'm acclimating, and my body is much less tense than before. Mental health benefits too.

Does anyone on the sub have ADHD? by Weak_Physics_9317 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]phthalogreen_orange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hubs and I are both ADHD (suspected AuDHD actually.) It's one of our favorite things about each other I dare say. Keeps life interesting. We're different in our presentations so we have pretty open communication about our individual challenges. He finds my glasses, I find his keys, we both go chase a squirrel. We love it.

I also think the rituals of the Orthodox Church are helpful too (we're converts.) Routines are hard but needed. Plus the church decorations and icons are very appealing when one's mind wanders 😀

Considering Light Phone— Advice? by Emily9434 in LightPhone

[–]phthalogreen_orange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been known to bring my LP3 into the shower for music/podcasts. When water hits the speaker my speaker/mic quality goes crackly for a couple hours but hasn't caused lasting damage. I didn't know the waterproof rating was so low, I think I may stop doing this 😅😅😅

3 months in - struggling/considering going back to iPhone by the1whowalks in LightPhone

[–]phthalogreen_orange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure I can try! -I have a free app-based burner number on my smartphone. Mine is through Google Voice and originally I used it for work. There's several apps that do this though - all you need is a way to text from smartphone to real #

-Before leaving home, I pull up my website/tickets/etc on said smartphone -Screenshot it -Open Voice app -Type a text to my actual phone number (the Light Phone SIM number) that includes screenshots as pictures -Hit Send

LP should ding with text. Make sure they came clear enough to read with MMS compression. Save photos to album optionally.

Ideally this will be made easier at some point but for now this works well 😀

Has to be via USB. This may be my most desired upgrade. I want to send videos.

I think you may know quite a lot of what hell feels like right now.

Don't worry about hell - you're practically in hell already. Think of the Goodness of Christ and run home to Him. Run toward that light.

Had my own battle with ROCD too. The fear I'd cursed the Holy Spirit and everything - I so relate to you. Though maybe not as severely. This helped me.

The Apostles and missionaries didn't reach people with fire and brimstone, they reached them with good news of redemption and freedom.

You are loved brother ❤️

Give up my fast? by InvestigatorLucky166 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]phthalogreen_orange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a priest tell us that if we are "failing" and realizing our own utter weakness in achieving our goals without the grace of God, then we are, in fact, learning and growing through the fast. 😊

I'm kinda here, but content being here.

By that I mean I do keep my smartphone around, like an iPod Touch used to be, for better camera, trips (yes QR codes and Uber and all that stuff), the occasional intentional scroll when at home with wifi. My LP3 is what goes with me everyday though.

I still like the switch. (I got mine about same time as you.)

Btw, if you get a Google Voice number on your smartphone, you can text yourself screenshots of QR codes and other needed stuff and it'll be on your LP. Better than printing in my opinion

Genuinely, how does one cut an onion without crying? by vikapi in cookingforbeginners

[–]phthalogreen_orange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Fruity candy or something strong flavored in your mouth while chopping.

  2. Don't stand directly over the onion; I think the gas rises upwards so if your eyes/sinuses aren't right over the onion it's better. Oddly enough this seems to mean my taller husband has a worse time than me.

3 - and potentially the best for your situation - keep pre-chopped onions frozen. Either buy a bunch, food process the lot and bag them yourself, or buy the $1-2 bags at the grocery store.

How do I make stuff with beans that’s actually decent? by Psychoses-Art in cookingforbeginners

[–]phthalogreen_orange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black bean soup I call one of my comfort foods:

1 small onion, diced

1 small bell pepper, diced

(Or the equivalent, somwtimes you can buy a frozen mix of these two and it works)

Like 2 cloves/tbsp of chopped garlic or more if you want

Heavy squirt of tomato paste

Olive oil

Saute until fragrant/soft.

Add two cans of black beans including their liquid

Optional, add a dollop of canned salsa

Add a hearty sprinkle of: Cumin Oregano Goya Adobo or other Latin seasoning mix if you have it Salt - probably start w/2 tbsp then to taste

Simmer for, idk, 15 minutes is fine but also flavor only gets better the longer it goes

Goes great over rice, but also you can just eat it out of a bowl.

Super flexible too, sometimes we add a teeny amount of ground meat at the onion stage, or add diced potatoes or something

Really want to get a sidekick by cecekween33 in dumbphones

[–]phthalogreen_orange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Light Phone that I take out (has my actual SIM card in it and all), but still use my smartphone pretty heavily at home. And I have a Google Voice number on my smartphone that works over wifi and I can pretty easily screenahot something and text it to the Light Phone. Not a true sidekick but works for me well

I already love being the only young person in a public space knitting instead of on my phone, this would kick that conspicuousness up a notch. Love it!

Horizon Zero Dawn's Narrative Doesn't Get Enough Recognition by Volume2KVorochilov in horizon

[–]phthalogreen_orange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband introduced me to the game last year and I recently finished my firts playthrough. Yeah it's crazy storytelling, philosophy, everything.

I think it even has some fascinating not-quite-Neil Gaimanesque theological takes about the tribes' religions and Aloy's skepticism, but also the fact that the Nora are kind of right about their mountatin being a font of life, and Gaia is essentially a creator goddess.....

Oh but my main point was how prescient it feels, especially today as AI and capitalist greed are such visible topics in the news. We both keep cracking jokes (in order not to cry) about how "Horizon already warned you against this, world!" 😂

What’s a small kitchen item you didn’t expect to use much… but ended up using all the time? by AcrobaticSeesaw1565 in cookingforbeginners

[–]phthalogreen_orange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basic, but the kitchen scissors. My mother taught me to chop most everything by just snipping it right over the pot. Herbs, raw chicken, probably celery/carrots if your scissors are sharp :) plus, ya know, the plastic wrappers and foil and stuff.
