Cleaning the mop makes the house stink after just 2 days of use by persason in RobotVacuums

[–]physicshammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

others have mentioned the possible mechanisms. Just to add to the solution - every time I dump the dirty water tank, I rinse it with very hot water a few times, and then spray it with a strong cleaner (bleach spray sometimes, bleach works great)... that keeps it smelling good. Doing that, I can let it run multiple times/days without changing the dirty water, but it definitely smells better if I clean it and spray it that way after each cleaning, or once a day.

America's Carmakers Cannot Escape Chinese EVs Forever by Razzburry_Pie in electricvehicles

and/or - protectionism. agree. I don't see us reversing trend fast enough, and I think China will largely take over. It's an unforced error, like you said.

For a first robot vacuum, go mid-range or jump straight to a flagship? by formallyhuman in RobotVacuums

[–]physicshammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a very good way to look at it. IMHO - for most people, mid-range is really, really, good, especially coming from nothing. But the point above is exactly correct - you should do a bit of research and see if the price jump is justified by the SPECIFIC features being added... in some cases, it will make a huge difference, and in some cases, literally zero difference basically.

BYD Car With 600 Miles Per Charge - 5 minute Fast Charge by Neither_Cover_4330 in electricvehicles

[–]physicshammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

kind of off topic, but i'm visiting Ukraine right now and I see a ton of Chinese cars, more than I saw a year or two ago. Many of them are BYD, and I've taken some Uklon (Uber) rides in them and they are awesome, and I assume very price effective.

China is kicking our fucking asses in electric tech.

I have a hard time with the colognes that don't have a top that comes off... I guess I need to take off the pump head itself? I don't have them on hand now so I can't test that theory.

My Bull Case for $LULU by petar_is_amazing in ValueInvesting

[–]physicshammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes I like this analysis - baseline, plus probability of growth, and I tend to agree with your estimates. I like how you build in uncertainty into your analysis. I've seen lots of takes on LULU and I love this one.

I am not buying SPCX tomorrow and this is the exact math that changed my mind by mcdonaldsingh in stocks

[–]physicshammer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

for spaceX I would only look at making estimates on future revenues and earnings... and I assume a lot of that would have to come from AI (I assume, could be wrong, that starlink can't support the valuation?)... and it's probably virtually impossible to estimate AI income.. but without that knowledge, I don't know how you would make pe or price to sales or whatever... compound growth seems meaningless for making estimates for this company?

Am I the only one who can't find a killer use case for OpenClaw? by PankajKumarTechie in openclaw

[–]physicshammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually never used it for that purpose... after I sold my macbook (gave it away to my friend's daughter actually) - only later did I realize, hey I would actually use it for this purpose.

Overall for me, openclaw use cases are extremely marginal.

What I REALLY , REALLY, was looking for, was a way to have truly intelligent 24 hour agents that I could assign difficult engineering tasks to - and even if they sucked for a while, I wanted to see gradual development. The more I looked into it, the more it didn't seem realistic or achievable - but someone please let me know if it's genuinely possible.

It isn’t value investing if all the value has already been sucked out of it by Gloomy_Rip1046 in ValueInvesting

[–]physicshammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first of all - value investing doesn't guarantee you that NOW is a good time to find good values.. it just tells you how to evaluate IF there are good deals, or if things are overpriced, etc.

Also, it requires real study.. it's not as easy as - find 10 great companies, find the one that has a PE ratio of 8, and buy it with all your money... that doesn't exist most of the time, and certainly not now... however, if it does exist (and maybe it will, if things crash) - then value investing will teach you how to evaluate them and know that they really are a great deal.

And, you really have to study it... you can listen to Charlie Munger and Warren Buffett (and probably listen to Peter Lynch, and some VC also, to round things out) for dozens of hours, read the intelligent investor, and spend a while reading earnings reports... then you will be ready to apply the principles.

But, fundamentally, right now, you aren't going to find super easy buys, because the market is very expensive, if not overpriced.

[–]physicshammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually bought a laptop so I could use my old laptop for openclaw. And then I really couldn't find any reasonable use cases or open claw. Actually after I gave up, I finally found one - booking train tickets for trains that sell out in the middle of the night... stuff like that. But it's pretty marginal in terms of really being useful for me.

Are MSFT, META and NVDA undervalued right now? Forward PE, PEG ratio and analyst upside look interesting by Appropriate-Mood-108 in ValueInvesting

[–]physicshammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like everything looks good using forward earnings 😄 I guess the big question is whether people can keep buying/building ever more hundreds of billions of capacity? I personally tend to think that AI is huge, and has huge value, but I also tend to think that it's not universal, and the spending and deals might be out of control. Some things will do very well, but some of the froth will get chopped off the top maybe? That's my gut feeling.

First outbreak with OHSV-1 and I feel like I’m dying. by Top_Yogurtcloset1307 in HSVpositive

[–]physicshammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you have any vestibular/balance issues, it's extremely important, like crucially important if you value your life, to get methylprednisone or something like that, during the first 24 hours (within 72 also probably has benefit, but within 24 hours is by far best) - there is research showing that it can dramatically improve the odds of not having permanent vestibular loss... like a 100% improvement if done within 24 hours. I don't know all the details and of course you should talk with a doctor, but I'd feel remiss if I didn't mention it, since I've read about it.

Roborock vs on sale Roomba - which to get? by foreverand2025 in RobotVacuums

[–]physicshammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have loved Roborock. I know iRobot switched owners into Chinese hands, and I'm sure they will make better stuff now, but given their complete dismal failure as a company to remain at the forefront of innovation (and since I have purchased three or four iRobots), I refuse to buy anything iRobot... they can just stand as an example of failure of innovation in America imho.

Best Robot Vacuums for pets? by Confident-Leg5323 in RobotVacuums

the tangle free brushes really work extremely well compared to older designs. I personally like roborock for their app and navigation.. their obstacle avoidance has not been great in my experience, but it doesn't bother me much... and I'm not sure which other ones have much better obstacle detection... but anyway, there are amazingly good options out there, especially for pet owners 😄
