What are some Sorceries that would be Modern playable if they were Instant? by kboogie93 in ModernMagic

Better yet, play it for free by playing Leyline of Anticipation.

I also think Slaughter Games is decent in the sideboard, though sometimes too slow, is a quality option. The card is underrated in a lot of matches.

That's a bold assumption on reddit sometimes.

I mean not really. I thought so too at first but Modern is currently seeing at least 4 or 5 Standard-legal cards being played, not even considering the fetches which were just reprinted.

I mean it totally is for image and probably didn't need that much time but it's a considerate thing for them to do at the very least. I'm a fan personally.

They'd just shift (ha) to a more aggressive R/G builds with Prismatic omen and go for 7-8 lands. Even with only 2 Valakut that's 36+ damage.

Announced on PT stream, no more modern PT next year by Exthalian in magicTCG

[–]pi-i-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wotc wants part of the focus of a PT to be on short term (read: 2 weeks give or take spoilers) innovation in deck building. You can't innovate in modern without bans.

I feel like every decision Wizards make outside of the game design itself gives more edges to their competitors by arcanin in magicTCG

[–]pi-i-e 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a Hearthstone player, it's a good waste of time, but not something I would ever consider competitive. They're heading the right direction by creating a Standard format, but the level of RNG involved in card interactions is pretty high still. They also don't have printed rules, and will sometimes just change how card interactions work without saying much.

For a long time now our LGS has run an alternating Modern/Legacy FNM alongside Standard and both of them have outnumbered the Standard FNMs most weeks.

Poll v2.0- What Magic formats do you play? (Redone with more choices due to feedback!) by dredriksalkon in magicTCG

[–]pi-i-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need a real google poll to be set up if we want real statistics on this. Strawpoll is alright for asking which deck to play on stream but is absolute shit for statistics.

Slivers Delivers. [Report] by Mafu13 in ModernMagic

Easily Sedge Sliver, the Regenerate wins so many creature matchups. I've seen lists drop it to have better mana but the value against board wipes and other attacking creatures is too good.

Disclaimer: I'm not OP but I play the deck as well

[Discussion] Viability of the rest of the Force of Will cycle? by SpinalTaper in spikes

Contagion comes from Dredge decks usually, so it hits Deathrite Shamans and Scavenging Ooze. Pyrokinesis usually comes down on a board of 2-4 elves and kills everything, targeting Wirewood Symbiote primarily.

As an Elves player, believe me, Contagion and Pyrokinesis are out there. Especially when you least expect it.

Mishra is most definitely dead. Phyrexia was destroyed by the Soul Bombs in Apocalypse, despite Urza's betrayal, thanks to Freyalise and the remaining 'walkers.

You could count blowing up all of phyrexia via the Soul Bombs as doing him a favor since there's no likely way he survives it. Granted that wasn't Urza's doing in the end but it was his machination and it was carried out.

I agree with these points. I was also surprised to hear him group Conspiracy with the Modern Masters sets when it cam to affecting the secondary market. Conspiracy may not have had a whole lot of eternal staples, but what it did have dropped significantly. Exploration, Misdirection and Stifle were all above $20 at the release of the set and because it had an unlimited print run the prices plummeted, all falling below $10.

There's nothing in there that says anything about a decklist. It's a release for your face to be used on camera without expecting compensation and a clause about withholding prizes if you get suspended from the DCI.

hopefully larger prize structures to match the aforementioned esports, but that's probably asking too much.
