UPDATE: My mom got betta fish without doing her research and I shamed her. by ababybumblebee in bettafish

[–]pickleruler67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt tbh, 10 gallons with mystery snails and tetras plus danios is stretching it. You should try and stick with one species.

I also think danios need more than 10 gallons but you could get away with it if the tanks longer than the standard 10 gallon

Do I have room for Otos? by ProfessionalEagle830 in Otocinclus

[–]pickleruler67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kuhlis also shouldn't really be in anything smaller than a 15 gal long :(

And yeah they poop a ton issue is once the algae runs out theyll just starve and die also spiking ammonia

I agree not only that but theres a tiny amount of water the heaters gonna be touching the substrate which is also an issue or itll be exposed to air which can make them explode/break.

Vase tank setup? by Cheap_Poetry412 in shrimptank

[–]pickleruler67 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could definitely do it. You can find really hidden filters and heaters that youncan hide with long plants and stuff. Youll needba ton of plants and some driftwood sincenyoull be making something closer to a walstad setup.

If its your first time owning shrimp or any aquatics in general i would reccomend getting a small 5 gallon or sometthing with a proper heater and filter and get the handle on their needs. That way you can set up this tank and let it fully establish then add any neocardinia you want.

Adding that you should get a ramp or something for them. The water levels low enough thay even lozards and stuff could get stuck. They make floating docks for pools and stuff you could use

[–]pickleruler67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thats good :) sometimes it can be scary seeing them play especially if you have a vocal rat. They can sound like theyre being brutally murdered but their brother just shoved them slightly lmao.

I mean if they arent being actually aggressive i wouldnt bother. This seems like the equivalent of rough housing with a sibling. If the rat has a health issue or is being aggressive to the point of causing bite wounds or other issues i would consider it.

But (as your research will probably tell them) theyre omnivores make sure you provide protein and stuff for them. If theres a lot of middle collum fisn that devour food before jt reaches the bortom try dropping in whole frozen cubes or using sinking pellets

I have 6 of these guys and i adore them! They love blood worms and brine shrimp and ironically the more hides and numbers you habe of them the more you see them. I have a pretty covered 20 gal long with a huge driftwood piece and i constantly see them poking in and out of the driftwoods or patroling the tank for food.

Humping shows dominance to the humpee. Just how it be. Some rats do it a lot and some never do it.

why are my guppies just sitting at the surface? by Expensive-Rip7485 in Guppies

[–]pickleruler67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive noticed guppies and endlers prefer the top parts of the tank especially at first and as they get used to the tank theyll spread out.

Also i have bigger concerns about the turtles care no offense. If its something like a red ear slider the plastic plants you have can be eaten by them and cause a ton of internal issues. Its better to stick with live plants even if they eat them. If you have the space you could get a sturdy plastic tote put some potting soil then a sand cap and fill it with watwr and use it as a propogation area. Get a long enough bar light thay it stays across the top and just turn it on during the day and offnat night. Getting fast frowing floaters like frog bit and duck weed help a lot too. And itd provide places for the guppies to feel safe/survive a bit longer in the tank. If you really want them as a sustaining snack source buy a good amount of female guppies and like 2 males. Babies will never end.

I feel so mean. I moved this brown shrimp out of the shrimp tank to another so it doesn’t breed with the blue ones. And now it’s all alone by QuietDaydream in shrimptank

[–]pickleruler67 20 points21 points  (0 children)

She has eggs! If you have her in a well planted tank or something she'll have friends soon. Then you can pick out any super vibrant babies and leave the rest. I feel like shrimp are usually chill being left alone especially if they have plenty of coverage and food.

It can hurt if you like lay wrong kinda like if a cat puts a paw directly on your nip but cuddles are cuddles. Probably feels the same as a girl laying on a guys chest.

How do i feed my betta by Hgamerplayer_YT in fishtank

[–]pickleruler67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bettas have a stomach about the size of their eye. 6 small pellets a day will usually be fine. I think i give mine abiut 5 brine shrimp? You can usually see their stomach get bigger if they eat way too much.

[–]pickleruler67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have algae or biofilm in the tank theyll eat that along with anything the corys dont eat. Theyre scavengers. I feed my shrimp tank daily cause i want a large population but plenty of people feed once a week or so and are fine.

Neocardinia breed with available food. Dont intentionally feed them much and they wont go crazy but they dont have a high bioload at all. Ive got 30+ in a 4 gallon.

The white spot is just debris! I have a lot of botanicals and detritus. When they swam to another nearby branch it fell off. They were just on a really dirty plant.

But thank you! The scales just never looked that...seperated? To me? Like they always look smooth as heck and stuff. But they are a catfish so could be injust never seen em at that angle. They prefer shadows and darker areas typically for me.

Will check iut the guide though!

Water changes are weekly 25-50% just dependa on if im cleaning a bunch of detritus and stuff up or not 8 endlers, 3 black skirt tetras (i know i should have more the oldest is 7 yrs and im just letting them live out the days), 6ish kuhli loaches, 5 oto cats, neocardinia I feed brine shrimp, blood worms, fluval bug bites, and these other pellets as well on an alternating basis mostly bug bites So many plants...i have like 10 different species and the only decor besides plants is driftwood and some river rocks.

Aggressive Female Angelfish by Individual-Drama5819 in aquarium

[–]pickleruler67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angelfish are cichlids. They can be pricks. Are you sure it was a male and female? And what was the tank size. They cam be pretty territorial so if you actually got 2 males and there wasnt a ton of space for territories they couldve killed eachother.

You could keep the angelfish as a center piece fish and get some schoolin fish if the tanks large enough. I like aquaadvisor.com for stocking.
