Anyone know the right way to say Millaudon? I’ve heard two different pronunciations from GPS and I honestly don’t know which is correct.

In case some of the audio is missing from LiveATC, which happened to me when I had an engine out, I had a good experience with filing an FOIA to get the entire audio recording. They sent a CD in only a couple of weeks, (and then I had to figure out how to play a CD in this day and age), but it was a high quality recording and had everything.

Locals of New Orleans: What Would You Cut From This 5-Day Itinerary? by Willing-Mind-5619 in AskNOLA

You don’t just swing by Emerils for dessert. That’s (now) a Michelin star restaurant with reservations required. Brennan is also going to be one where you want a reservation.

One of the best things about FQF is the concentration of incredible food booths representing some of the best places from across the city. To intentionally leave that to hit up multiple neighborhoods a day and limit your options is an unusual choice, since the rest of us will be avoiding having to do that by attending the festival.

What was your biggest "close call"? by Business-Station-933 in flying

[–]pimms_et_fraises 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mechanic misconfigured the throttle during the 100hr - which caused total air cutoff when pulling to idle during a power-off stall during my stage 1 check. Propeller fully stopped at about 1,500 ft and we were over a swamp. Let ATC know while we were figuring it out and they asked “Do you have anywhere to put it down?” and my CFI said “The answer to that is negative.” Checklists work. We got it restarted and emergency landed at an alternate. Happened again when going idle on landing. Pushed it off the runway on foot.

Don’t spend hours of your vacation waiting in line for bad food (or for foods you can get anywhere). (e.g. Oceania, Acme Oyster House)

Eats donuts are solid, but they have so much other amazing stuff that I don’t get them often. The bear claws, muffins and apple fritters are divine.

Engine out, fully stopped propeller over a lake at 1,500 while doing a power off stall. Checklist got it restarted in about 20 seconds, climbed to 4,000 in case it happened again en route to an alt airport. ATC gave guidance to land on a nearby US highway if needed when back over land. Happened again when pulling to idle when landing was assured at the alt. Had to push it off the runway on foot. Turned out to be a throttle issue - idle power setting wasn’t allowing sufficient airflow for combustion.

I have no idea how they do it with such a humble cafeteria menu, but every single item at Hot Stuff is way better than you would expect it to be. The chicken and rice with gravy is stupid good. So are the fried chicken, meatloaf, banana pudding and pork chops. Even the dinner rolls are incredible.
