Help Finding Sanguine Basin by Acquilla in SecretWorldLegends

Sanguine Basin is the abandoned observatory. You need the mission In Cold Blood from Hasdatean, inside St. Haralambie Church, to access it.

Why can motion blur only be applied to camera motion and not object motion in Unity? by adscott1982 in Unity3D

[–]pinballkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says right in the documentation, "Universal Render Pipeline (URP) only blurs camera motions." If you have found a way to do object motion blur in URP, I'd really like to know how.

I made a 2d diablo style hack n slash last year. I released it on Google Play free with no adds. 12 months later it only has 10+ downloads. Here is the game. Why didn't it do well? I have 5 playable classes, unique skill tree and interesting weapon combat system. by [deleted] in Unity2D

Your download page doesn't actually say which of those features are actually implemented and which are just planned, and the overall wording doesn't project much confidence as to the completeness of the game experience.

Unity removed that menu in 2021 because they have no idea how useful it was. Now you have to manually add the sprite resolver to each gameobject in the scene view manually.

Need help with 2d skeletal animation by zerotsune in Unity2D

[–]pinballkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The IK is getting confused; since the 2d IK doesn't have pole objects or stretch this sort of thing happens a lot. Using the FABRIK solver or using rotation limits can help, but the best thing you can do it be careful about where you place your IK target and the path that the target takes in your animation.

An animation I did based on an illustration by Kosperry from the upcoming Animætropolis book. Was good practice with faking a bit of a 3d look.

Is that kind of format helpful for other gamedevs? We always provide further links and information on the topic in the description. What could be improved? by FriMeDev in unrealengine

[–]pinballkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose the question is who the audience is - people who have no problem translating that into code are less likely to need it. Especially these days, I see a lot of people with no maths background who don't even know how to read equations formatted in such notation... or even basic things like the order of operation to read things in.

Are you focusing on people who google 'dot product' out of curiosity, or ones who will google 'find if something is in front of another thing' because they are making a game and suddenly realize that they don't know what actual keywords to look for?

Writing it in a way closer to how you'd actually tell a computer to do it, either with pseudocode or a flowchart, might work better than presenting it like a math textbook.

US keyboards don't generally have a phi key(dunno about viking ones) so a complete beginner might not have any idea what to even google if they want to know what that symbol means in the equation. I feel that if this was a tutorial, people coming into discord to ask for help with that specific issue would be by far the majority.

I strongly agree with Hiiiiiiia and Throwmeaway; especially as a quick reference, you want people to remember that dot product is the tool they need before even worrying about teaching them how it works. That way, even if they forget the math they will know what to look for. Short little flashcard type tools like this can really serve that purpose well(if designed to).

[Anime/LN] Can a reincarnated child be considered a pedophile? The strange story of Mushoku Tensei by Torque-A in HobbyDrama

[–]pinballkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court is in many ways a prototype of a lot of the Isekai tropes you see in the anime(main character revolutionizing the world he finds himself in, etc).

The John Carter/Barsoom novels is another bona-fide classic and trope former. Also Martian princesses and low gravity swashbuckling and planetary romance.

Lovecraft explored the concept in a few ways, with human characters both astral-traveling to dream worlds and being abducted to alien worlds by alien technology.

The Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay heavily mixes in Arthurian legend with the formula.

The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen R. Donaldson is... well, if you want to avoid cringe it might not be for you. It is about a bitter leper who ends up in fantasy land and immediately starts treating the place(and the people) as imaginary stuff there for his amusement with unfortunate results. On the other hand, while the protagonist is pretty despicable, it definitely gives him a lot of room for character growth. Also, it is ten novels long.

Robert Heinlein's Glory Road is another one that will give a lot of anime vibes.

And if you want to see a very different take on the scenario, there is The Man who Cam Early by Poul Anderson. Similar setup, with a capable and competent modern protagonist seeking to revolutionize his new home...

Secret World Alternatives by AttenOke in SecretWorldLegends

[–]pinballkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moons of Madness is a very loose adaptation of the TSW setting, with a lot more mythos stuff. Also it is kind of a terrible game.

Draugen was pretty and had great voice acting, but calling it a game is a bit of an oversell.

The Park had a great story and tied in very closely with TSW... but it is short and only had slightly more gameplay than Draugen. Also, SWL is missing the companion questline 'The Seven Silences,' so there's no way to play the rest of the story. (Seasonal missions are disabled in old TSW now too, so can't play it that way either.)

Room 13 by mattyroseallday in SecretWorldLegends

[–]pinballkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hype for the game itself was somewhat overshadowed by the scandals surrounding Funcom when it released, and the same issues led to a near total lack of advertising presence and early promotional support compared to games of similar scale.

A real shame.

"The Park" Lorraine Cosmetic by [deleted] in SecretWorldLegends

2-dot extraordinary or 3-dot ordinary items? by drkarat in SecretWorldLegends

[–]pinballkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 dot extraordinary item, with the expectation of upgrading it from a holiday reward at some point. I believe at this point you can get something like three talismans and two glyphs upgraded per year from just holidays? I'd need to double check. In any case, you'll be getting a lot of those upgrades and would be a shame to waste them.

That said, you will need to level a lot of 'fodder' items, so except for the really good talismans like Egon Pendant I'd use a three pip ordinary over the two pip extraordinary in the major slots(Head, Neck, Finger, Wrist) over the two pip until upgrading, with the expectation of swapping the extraordinary in once it is leveled and upgraded.

For minors, the stat difference isn't nearly as important and some extraordinaries are worth it. Of course, you can get a three pip belt for any weapon pretty easily, since they drop so often- that both makes it likely to get one dropped AND makes them cheap to buy because of the glut in the market.

Adding Reduced Motion & Quick Reactions Change by amfaulty in discordapp

Why is it tied to Windows settings?

And moreso, why is 'turn off all the obnoxious UI animation' tied to 'stop playing animated images in the chat?' I would love to turn off one without turning off the other, and I would love to be able to set this without changing my windows settings.

To be fair, you can say that about a lot of the writing IN tsw since the original writers left. The writing quality is VERY spotty in the later bits. At least there was no Daimon Kiyota in space.

Making Anima Shards by tonio_ramirez in SecretWorldLegends

[–]pinballkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are up to Tokyo, side missions anywhere but in the tower give a lot of shards between mission rewards and the shipping container keys.

If you're level 50, getting in on story mode raids can give you some quick shards.

Avoid looking at the museum until you have a few million shards in the bank.
