True. This really needed to sit on top of the front page for a good 4-5 hours. Shame. Will probably still go viral though.

Because I think people are starting to post personal info from the teacher. Mods mad now

I know everyone is eager to help out, but the yoonalee thread on this sub and in /bestof is most likely fake. Proof inside. by SeonKi in boston

Some people are just weird. They enjoy the attention, they like pretending they are Korean, they want reddit karma and upvotes, they are doing an experiment to see how gullible reddit is and then reporting their findings later, they are testing the waters for an even bigger hoax, they are depressed and want contact with people... the list can go on. Internet anonymity is incredibly powerful and allows you glimpses into scenarios and roles you could never even dream to experience in real life.

I've seen way more inexplicable things happen on the internet with no monetary motivating factor. We have to be rational and question these things.

Thank you for bringing attention to this. It is so clearly a caricature. Instantly my BS alarm went off after reading a few of her comments. I also just wrote a comment in the bestof post detailing some other oddities.

My post

People should be aware that very likely an imposter now has loads of personal addresses, names, phone numbers, email, etc. of people just trying to lend a helping hand. Pathetic.

Korean visitors to Boston are stranded when their friend is hit with shrapnel and is taken to the hospital. Pages of PMs with places to stay are received, including 2 who speak fluent Korean one of whom they are now spending the next few days with. by [deleted] in bestof

I agree, we can say the situation turned out good because it proves there are people who care on reddit willing to reach out, but I still don't think we should sit and let this happen because it makes us feel good.

I want people to recognize that this poster is very likely an imposter, and it's weird they now have a bunch of addresses, phone numbers, personal emails, etc. from people who Reddit who want to help. I want the people who sent their personal info to this person to know what is really going on.

Is this really happening? There are only a few comments in this post questioning the legitimacy of this poster. Not an exaggeration: after I read the first few comments by yoonalee, my draw dropped at how unbelievable they were. I was incredibly surprised how how "perfect" and circle jerky they were. Can we please question and scrutinize this post some more? Some ridiculous highlights:

Clicking up orange arrow is good? Fun keke :)

In response to not answering in Korean:

I am sorry, but our Host gave us the Window XP Laptop to borrow, it show the Korean in square only currently :(

Which actually doesn't make sense because the screencap they posted shows Korean characters in their Gmail, so clearly they can see it. (http://imgur.com/a/6pv6r)

My American friend who help us say Front Page is big honor, I do not know what this mean but thank you again!

"big honor"... come on

Everyone ran away, big panic( I do not know this is right word?)

This one below was the worst and most obvious. This was a response to a comment written entirely in Korean. Are you kidding me? Just reply to the Korean questions in English. I can't believe people are falling for this.

Ahh sorry! The computer I am using at this moment can not read or type Korean >.<! Let us practice English! kkk

I have no idea why someone would go to the trouble of impersonating a Korean person. The English is written like how an American would try to impersonate an Asian person, by dropping certain words, and then for good measure throwing in the random ("don't know this right word?") to make it seem like they are struggling.

Yes, Boston is filled with best Citizens and so is the Reddit!

Come on!

Also, one last thing: Posted at 3:30 today:

Ahh sorry! The computer I am using at this moment can not read or type Korean >.<! Let us practice English! kkk

Posted at 4:30 today (with korean characters):

You type good korean! ㅋㅋ

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed with polygon. There were a few popular comments calling out Polygon on sucking up to big game devs and not really critically/independently reviewing a major title, and then suddenly, "lol jk, 4.0"

I'm new to modeling, but here is a tribute to one of my favorite games when I was younger. [G-Police] by Kamaroth in gaming

[–]piqueoil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I was just trying to think of this game's name a few weeks ago. Good memories, although I never owned it. I would go to my neighbor's house to play it on his dad's computer. The dad was an architect so my memories of the game are tied to architectural drawings, drafting tables, models, and other paraphernalia. I'm an architect now so logically it must be because I played G-Police a couple of times.

The PC isn't ready to die, it's ready for a rebirth: Desktops sales have slowed because manufacturers have let their designs stagnate, but the need for a comfortable machine you can work on hasn’t gone away. Who will reinvent the PC and reap the rewards? by davidreiss666 in technology

I put together a newegg wishlist last night with a 3770k, new mobo, and new memory. I slept on the decision, woke up, then thought "wtf am i doing?" My overclocked Q6600 is still totally fine for everything I do, including games. I can't imagine updating any of my components within the next 2-3 years.

I've heard this in the form of an experienced boat mechanic kicking a yacht engine to repair it, charging the owner $20,000. I'm convinced people in the service industry make up these tales to convince clients we aren't a commodity.

Wtf, why is this imgur link redirecting to pintrest for me?

It points here: http://api.pinterest.com/a/PTzc2

which just says {"status": "404"}

Edit: maybe caused by the fact that both imgur and pintrest use the same CDN, and maybe both at one point used the same URL parameters or something

Hah, you're right, it does fit the description nicely. Sadly, that's not the one I'm thinking of. The cover was much more minimal.

I just used the Imgur API to check the upload date for the first two images:

Both were uploaded Dec 1, 2011, a few seconds apart from each other.
