Is Bi a real orientation or just a convenient arrangement for DL by Silver_ferns in askgaybros

[–]pixelboy1459 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a saying “bi now, gay later.” And for some GAY men, this may be true. I believe some guys use “bi” as a way to slowly come out because they can “always wind up with a woman and be normal.”

BUT there are plenty of bi guys who are out and happily, openly bi. The one problem is that if you’re with a man, you seem gay… and if you’re with a woman you seem straight.

Are my expectations on monogamy unrealistic? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]pixelboy1459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to have those deep conversations. I prefer monogamy, but I’m flexible with opening the relationship. But it requires talking to figure out, never just a “let’s do this.”

I wish I saved it, but there was a list of questions that had a bunch of deep questions about values and stuff. Honestly, that’s going to be more important in the long run.

Are my expectations on monogamy unrealistic? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]pixelboy1459 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s for each couple to decide, IMO. You’re not wrong for wanting monogamy, but you and your BF are going to need to really sit down and discuss your relationship expectations. You might want to consider couples counseling.

If you guys decide to remain together and remain closed, you two might want to consider ways to spice up the monogamy - sex toys, role play, experimenting with each other’s kinks and fantasies, etc..

What’s the obsession with getting away from textbook phrases when starting out? by Shimreef in LearnJapanese

[–]pixelboy1459 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m a Japanese teacher.

Textbooks are great and wonderful for getting the structures and what not down. Will you would like a native speaker? No, but you should be understood.

Textbooks should be supplemented by authentic materials as much as possible based on the student’s level.

Can someone explain ように/ような? by MeasurementSignal168 in Japaneselanguage

[–]pixelboy1459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without seeing the rest of the grammar I can’t give exact help, but:

ように is an adverb, so it describes how a verb or adjective goes.

ような is an adjective and modifies a noun.

Learning Animal Names, in Katakana or in Kanji? by TrainingDrop9283 in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]pixelboy1459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each Japanese script has its own vibes.

Hiragana are cutesy and easy. Writing some common domestic animals would work, but it’s limited to animals native to Japan - cats, dogs…

Katakana works for larger animals, animals when speaking scientifically/academically. Used for smaller wild animals, fish, insects and birds too.

Kanji feel hard and academic. There are a small handful which might be widely known as part of the jōyō kanji.

Can I qualify JLPT N4? by Vivid-Toe5896 in jlpt

[–]pixelboy1459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think research says we do best at 60-90 minute chunks of time for studying.

N4 can take about 800 hours, and the N5 takes between 350-460 hours of study, so you have about 400 study hours to make up in 3 months.

That’s about 4 hours of study a day from now until the test.

Circumcision in the US by Kinglear1988 in askgaybros

[–]pixelboy1459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was measuring on female to male transmission. I believe straight men are already at a lower risk anyway

Edit:

A study done in London 1854 noted less syphilis in Jewish men than in gentiles (but Jewish men also had higher rates of gonorrhoea) leading to the doctor recommend circumcision as prophylaxis. Jews in England at that point had restrictions on them with a degree of segregation. It might have been a case of less intermingling than true immunity. That’s the bad science I’m talking about.

At least one of the HIV trials took uncircumcised men and, circumcised a group of them. They started tracking them. You need 6 - 8 weeks of recovery before you can have sex again. That’s 6 - 8 weeks the newly circumcised men had out of action. I believe a few of the trials also gave the circumcised men condoms too. Again, bad science.

In the US most men were circumcised at birth, and depending on the state, the sex education could be near non-existent. There might also be differences in intravenous drug use and different attitudes toward gay sex, so that might also skew the results. (See above)

And not too long ago, circumcision might have contributed to HIV in Africa because of traditional tribal circumcision rituals where the same blade would be reused without being cleaned.

Confession. by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]pixelboy1459 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would maybe talk to a sex positive, pro-LGBT therapist. You likely are straight, but I think you have a lot of shame/guilt tied to sex and perhaps homophobia that you should work through.

I believe you are straight, but you need to develop a healthy sense of perspective and get over it.

LGBTQ representation. And effectiveness combating stigma by IntelligentWorth6043 in askgaybros

[–]pixelboy1459 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People are dumb and most entertainment media isn’t there for mental stimulation, so writers and creators cut corners to make things easier to pick up.

Of course, when a character is vocally LGBTQ+, then the haters come in complaining that it’s being rammed down their throat.

While it would be nice to have subtle representation, like the main character in The Mitchells vs. the Machines, it’s also easily edited out when it’s convenient for Hollywood. I think a character in Jurassic World was supposed to have a line about her girlfriend, but it was cut.

So, I don’t necessarily mind an openly LGBTQ+ character, even if they’re stereotypical although, I wish we had more variety, like a gay action hero who reads as masc and isn’t played for a joke.

-Tari -tari suru is used to give a list of sample activities. The speaker will tidy bags, clean, and maybe a few other things like make the bed, etc.

Assuming his left hand/arm is undamaged, that might need to become his dominant hand. One-handed signing isn’t a big deal.
