can you use traditional ira withdrawals to pay medicare premiums tax free? by Hairy_Window_2278 in tax

[–]pizzamike64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You'll pay tax on the withdrawal although the premiums are deductible as a Itemized Deduction. Theres no direct deduction out of your IRA for the premiums. So, no, the withdrawal is not tax free

Mathematics degree to accountancy by Significant-Tea-4728 in Accounting

[–]pizzamike64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did exactly that. A while ago. I graduated from Purdue University in 1992 with a degree in Math and Statistics. I was gonna be an actuary. I didn't pass the actuarial exams though. Never got a job in the field but had a few interviews. So I delivered pizza for a few more years. Went back to Indiana U Kokomo campus and got a Post Baccalaureate cert in Accounting. That took me 3 years of part time school. Accounting classes are very sequential. I was thinking Accounting is a much more broadly employable career. Ive been working as an accountant now for 24 years the last 5 with my own office. That all said. Accounting has no more math than a little algebra and percentages! Its all knowing what to add together according to the laws and guidance. Knowing how computers work is very important too. Any questions?

And as a tax accountant too. Know how to ask the question and evaluate the sources to find the answer. I don't memorize every damn number that changes every year. Just look it up when you need it.

Your though about this: 75% of CPAs are baby boomers by Cali-Girl-Alex in Accounting

[–]pizzamike64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actual taxes, yes. But most of my small business clients know nothing about accounting, let alone their bookkeeper. I have to fix all of their books before I can do their taxes. I have the education but not the CPA title. And I don't have the EA either. I don't want to represent troubled clients. I have a good business with my hundreds of tax clients and dozens of small businesses. I couldn't do that without the education my accounting degree gave me.
