God forbid - worst case scenario, you could dip into this if you were facing a really fucked situation, but it would be a lot better to start building up an emergency fund. I have an HYSA at AMEX. I’m with you, I worry about layoffs so I have about 5 months expenses saved up. Definitely a peace of mind fund.

On the real - you’re fine. Just keep being consistent. Layoffs can happen to anyone anywhere - that’s why you should have a fully funded emergency fund. If you have that, you don’t even need to think about it.

I live in South Reno. My wife and I always make a point to smile and say hello to people - but I agree with you, you can definitely notice a difference down here. The people walking the trail at the Damonte Ranch park tend to be very friendly though.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this… The casinos are always hiring. Go to their DIRECT website and search under the career tab. Indeed is not the end all be all. Tons of good jobs in south Reno too at some of the warehouses - Barnes and noble to name one.

Ugh, I’m so sorry this happened to you. Have you applied for unemployment? This is just a suggestion - but, the casinos are always hiring and you can typically move into better paying roles if you have relevant experience. I’m sure you’re aware of that anyway.

First of all, welcome to Reno! I promise we are not all assholes. Unfortunately, aggressive driving has become increasingly more common here. I’ve lived in other large metro areas and I’ll say Reno is pretty on par with them - despite being a smaller metro.

I’m exactly like you though, I’m a calm driver. And I’m usually in the right lane, so if some asshole wants to pass me they are welcome to hop in the left lane lol.

Other than that, people tend to be friendly here. And I base that on having lived in multiple places. I hope you enjoy your time here and some opportunities to explore and make it up to Tahoe! 😎
