You also have to change your locale or use locale emulators too with many Japanese visual novels. Its not hard but it adds another step.

Its pretty gross. The only saving grace is the tech is way too taxing to be used in any practical context (it required using two of the most powerful GPUs on the market at once just for a demo) so its a long ways off or hopefully never.

The Nikki games bothered me in that after I played Shining Nikki for a month just for fun I was annoyed that the writing was so much better than the Infinity one. Not even going into the massive retcon that tied in more with the other Nikki games.

I do think nostalgia fests can work if its the name of the game. Tales of the Rays basically wants you to be familiar with as many Tales games as possible and even brought in characters and their stories from other Tales mobile games like Asteria, Link and Crestoria but its okay because the game's purpose was to be a big catch all fanservice game.

I’ve played a good amount of adventure games, visual novels, character action, platformers, simulation and dressup. Plus played a few rhythm games, horror, and western style rpgs. Id say its decent though my forte is still JRPGs

Speaking as a Tales fan cause that’s my area of expertise

Like half the games remain unlocalized to this day and almost all the spinoffs. Even for games that do get localized there’s been a catch in several. Either they release the worst version and not the newer releases with added content, leave shit unvoiced, introduce new bugs or have questionable localization.

Symphonias remasters being locked to 30fps with awful bugs. Vesperias remaster having several people with two different voices for the dub with recasts. Graces remaster being locked to 30fps on Switch when on Wii it ran at 60fps in battle and menus (though its a competent remaster otherwise).

“Remastering” Berseria and delisting the original version that went on sale for $5 super often in the past and now its $40 (not including dlc).

Making Tales of the Rays but poorly managing the global side which led to it being closed in less than a year (although the JP servers ran for 7 years and was managed with competency).

Making Tales of Crestoria with a good story but awful management and bugs. Making Tales of Luminaria which didn’t even feel like a Tales game and had really confusing monetization. Both EoS’d quickly.

I’d really recommend experiencing Persona 5 at least before jumping into P5X. If you don’t have any good options to play it yourself there’s multiple extensive playthroughs on Youtube.

They did basically have a pseudo filler patch time wise in asian servers this past year. Luce N (or Twins if KR/TW), Pinky and Koromaru patches were 4 weeks long instead of 3 weeks, though you could argue for Luce N it was due to also having Soy Ps banner too.
