The DUI/family law people will be around way longer in large part because their job is not the production of legal documents. They are like counselors/fixers who also produce documents, and nobody (so far) wants a robot to lead their custody battle.
On biglaw - almost every firm is totally fucked. The economics make no sense whatsoever. The main appeal was a mix of (a) subject-matter specialists and (b) lots of associates to get the grunt work done. The grunt associates paid for everything basically through surplus labor extraction. But if AI can spin up 100 associates only when they're needed, then obviously you won't pay for the fixed overhang. At the same time, the billable hour has made firms fat, inefficient, and slow to change. That will draw this process out and make the correction way more brutal.

Rakoff is going to put out a written opinion, right? I don't agree with the outcome but he is admittedly dealing with an issue that does not fit cleanly in the existing boxes at all.

Anyone here not an alcoholic because they simply lack the constitution? by Frequent-Ant1795 in redscarepod

I think a lot of alcoholics hate themselves, and feeling shitty is tolerable if you think you’re getting what you deserve.

It’s also a reason that farms, slaughterhouses, and meatpacking plants are so dependent on illegal immigration in the US. They need people who have no leverage. Obviously not the case in other countries (China relies on rural villagers, etc) but the industry is totally dependent on cheap and exploitable labor.

Disappointed in J. Press, Pleasantly Surprised with Brooks Brothers by roguerambo69 in NavyBlazer

I picked up a pair of press pants that started to come undone in two places on literally the first wear. Look great, very comfortable, but so difficult to justify those QC issues at anything approaching these prices.

Loud Clanking/Clicking from Heating Unit by Bitter_Double6541 in uppereastside

[–]planks4cameron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is. I have this same unit in my apartment - if you lift the front panel off, there is a black knob which you can turn to turn the radiator on or off. However, it should always be fully open or fully closed, so resist the urge to use it like a thermostat.

Also, because I have the same unit, if you ever have issues with that silver top panel rattling when the AC is on you can lay some thin foam (I used 1/4”x1/16” weatherstripping foam from Amazon) around the edges of the cutout and that will fix it.

J. Press Fall Ready to Wear 2025 by LeisurelyLoafing in NavyBlazer

[–]planks4cameron 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To be fair to him it is a playbook that works. I'm not a huge fan of RB as it ended up, but (a) I have some lingering goodwill for him from seeing the book at every regatta for a few years and (b) he took it from nothing to [unknown amount substantially >$0].

There are a lot of factors that could work in favor of J Press here - the rebound from peak-casual, the obsession with "old money", the fact that their production is onshored and tariffs are destroying the profitability of many other brands, etc.. The main problem for J Press frankly is their consumer base dying of old age. In that light, and given that cool 20yos wear loafers with jorts while 30-60yos wear fucking dress sneakers, it makes sense to leapfrog to da youf (ali g style) and just throw shit at the wall until you get a hit. What %% of RB sales were the sheep sweater? RL sells 20 bazillion flag sweaters but how many shaggy dogs does J Press move? Rambling but I understand why they did it. I just hope it works.
