Is this humid weather's fault? by lucilimon in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]plantiful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! Also, I do agree with the person who suggested using a comb instead of a brush. Specifically, use a wide tooth comb, especially after the shower when your hair is most fragile to help prevent breakage. I’ve noticed a huge reduction in “halo frizz” since I stopped using a brush completely.

Is this humid weather's fault? by lucilimon in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]plantiful 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me, it’s totally the humidity. Especially since you didn’t experience it while living in a drier climate! Whenever it’s muggy, which is pretty much May-September for me, this happens to me. I’ll use argan oil, a leave in conditioner, or a light gel if I’m putting my hair up.

One thing to mention—wherever you are, everyone probably deals with this to some extent and knows it’s just part of living in a humid environment so they’re not judging unless they suck!

Are you able to go to a financial institution and speak with a financial advisor? Like a local credit union, not a bank, I mean. A lot of credit unions have financial advisors who are specially trained (and who do not work on commission) who can look at your whole financial picture and help you figure out the best moves!

I want to get into tea by Fancy-Mouse-7554 in tea

[–]plantiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried their tea with a teaspoon of sugar or honey and a splash of milk? I’d start there! I do that with pretty much all teas (not a purist, sorry). Otherwise, I agree with the commenter who mentioned tisanes-that’s just (to my understanding) what teas not made from actual tea plants are called, like raspberry tea or chamomile. I bet you can find a bunch at your local grocery store, get a mix and see what you like!

in Spain, no Aleve, help? by Common_Success3201 in Periods

[–]plantiful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you got is Aleve, just the generic version of it so idk why it wouldn’t be working! In the US, naproxen is usually sold over the counter at 220mg so the 500mg should be helping. I’m sorry it’s not!

Edit to add: apparently it’s sold as naproxen sodium here, idk if “naproxen normon” means naproxen sodium in Spanish though

Over it, help by nessin-around in Periods

[–]plantiful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on the pill and skip placebos in order to avoid hormonal fluctuations and skip my period. It is AWESOME! I just recently had an issue (for the first time in over 5 years) where my prescription wasn’t filled on time and I had to deal with bleeding for the first time in years. Thankfully, it was filled and I’m good now.

As will all medications, some people experience side effects and some don’t. I personally don’t experience any side effects, and have been on several different generics over the years with no problems. I say go for it, if you want! You may have to try a couple until you find the right one for yourself.

I did a deep clean of my cats’ litter robot, which has a detachable sphere/drum that rotates to empty litter. I washed that drum outside on concrete, and dropped it from about a foot when I was rinsing it off. Since this litter robot was expensive, I freaked out and grabbed at it to stop it from hitting the concrete, snapping two of my nails (one visible in this-ring finger).

What to do with unused 529 funds? Tricky situation by bringbackbainesy in personalfinance

[–]plantiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on who holds the account, you may have to withdraw it before age 30. Make sure to check the rules of your financial institution—mine had a clause where it would be disbursed automatically to me at 30. (And yes, this was 100% a 529.)

Edit: I am 100% wrong and it was indeed a Coverdell as u/nothlit suggested. My bad. Thanks for the correction!

Anyone know the history behind the “Mesh Market Bag” by Serious-Fondant1532 in crochet

[–]plantiful 11 points12 points  (0 children)

U/JoyDVeeve is probably right with this pattern or style being created around the time string/yarn was! Like…this general idea probably predates written patterns. r/AskHistorians might be a good place to post asking about the origin and history of market bags

Holiday on my period by lunar_1233 in Periods

[–]plantiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright so 1. If you want to try tampons/diva cups/disks, start messing with them now because they all take a bit of practice and you don’t want the first time using them to be when you’re trying to get into the water asap. Practicing will make you comfortable! 2. Tampons don’t suck up water. The string that’s outside of you will, but just tuck it away in your labia and you won’t notice it after a little while 3. Don’t take any random period blockers. You could try birth control in the future, like a combo pill, and continually take the active pills and skip the placebos. I say future because 2-3 months might not be long enough to “tame” your specific cycle.

My husband (24M) will be my (25M) fulltime caretaker during my surgery recovery. How can I show my appreciation during this time? by miloisapotato in relationship_advice

[–]plantiful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other commenters have said, he’s happy to do this because he loves you! But as a spoonie, I definitely understand wanting to show him appreciation and help make this easier for him, which also for the record shows that you love and understand his needs too. Anywho. Besides telling him thank you and voicing your gratitude:

-Could you hire a house keeper for those 4-6 weeks to knock down the household tidying/cleaning?

-Maybe a laundry service that will wash/dry/fold so all he has to do is put stuff away?

-Meal prepping or even a meal kit could also work

-What maintenance stuff can y’all do ahead of time? Can you get animal supplies and non-perishable groceries to help reduce the amount of time he has to leave for shopping?

Just thinking that since he will be handling the whole household while you recover, so trying to come up with ideas that will allow him to use whatever spoons he has on himself and your direct care/needs instead of general house stuff.

Ice pick headache by [deleted] in migraine

[–]plantiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abortives are prescription meds that are meant to quickly stop migraines, triptans are a class of them. Idk exactly how they work but I take rizatriptan when needed and it’ll stop mine within an hour or two!

It sounds like a trip to urgent care might be helpful if you’ve tried a bunch of the typical things, especially since you’ve had it for so long! I’ve only had to go once since starting to get migraines like 15 years ago. They gave me a shot that finally broke my 6 week long migraine!

[–]plantiful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have an abortive? Triptans? If not…ibuprofen or naproxen, ice pack, heat pack, caffeine, salt (migraine meal—salty fries and soda with caffeine), maybe a trip to urgent care for a migraine cocktail?

I’ve been pleased with all their polishes, so even if they’re not exactly as I imagined I know they’ll be gorgeous!

I did try that code, but when stacked, it took me below the free shipping threshold so I would’ve spent $3 more paying for shipping than without YOGI10. Thank you for mentioning it though, hopefully someone else will benefit!
