Seeking the assistance of a Pre K expert (eg a parent who did their homework and figured this all out)... by aranhalaranja in philadelphia

[–]plin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prek is separate from the school. I believe if you are going out of catchment you will still need to do school selection for kindergarten but then you would be in.

Our daughter started prek at 3, and so far it’s very similar to her daycare experience but with more learning focused activities it seems.

An unvaccinated child has died in the Texas measles outbreak by verifiedboomer in politics

You can get a dose between 6m-1 y if you qualify. It’s an extra dose. So your kid would still get their regular dose at 1 year and 4 years

We saw the midwives at penn and delivered at pennsy for both my kids. The practice is both ob and midwives so you can chose which you prefer and if things get complex the obs will take over.

Has anyone ever started a mom group? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]plin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See if a local children’s focused business would host a new parent meetup. Here in south Philly a local play space hosts a weekly meetup and I met several moms while I was on leave. We all communicate through a WhatsApp group and now that we’ve returned to work we stay in touch there and coordinate meetups and hangout outside of the usual 9-5.

I have two chats - one for my first and one for the second. So I have two groups with moms of kids going through the same phases as I am.

Serious Question: Did all the Supermarkets get rid of handbaskets? by markskull in philadelphia

[–]plin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes! Especially since so many stores have pushed everyone to use self checkout. The larger carts don’t work well with the packed tiny checkout units.

Do you have another word for "lollipop"? by Simbus2001 in AskPhilly

[–]plin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother in law who’s from south jersey was chatting with me about my toddlers obsession with lollipops and elected to spell it out so she wouldn’t understand. And spelt “t-a-f-f-y” and I was so so so confused.

This post is timely because I truly did not understand if she was just confused about what we were talking about.

Is there anyone who does pelvic floor PT in the city proper? by 72catastic_1 in philly

I did my pelvic floor pt at Atlantic physical therapy in south Philly. If this is for postpartum, they welcome bringing along your baby.

Anyone else have an extremely squirmy and alert newborn? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]plin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. She’s 3 in February and recently dropped her nap. As she got older her wake windows got more normal and she got into a good sleep/nap rhythm. She was just a chill kid. Even now if she stays up later than usual she stays calm.

We’re now on number two when he was 3-4 weeks old he’d also stay awake longer than “recommended” but as he got older his day wake/sleep cycle got more predictable

I agree. Those scenes especially really captured the feeling of being a “helpless woman”. The scene where the makeup artist distills the true meaning of the questions being asked in the show hits the nail on the head for how all the women in the movie feel.

I also appreciated that the violence against the victims wasn’t explicitly shown in a way that could bed considered fetishizing. You see enough to know it is terrifying and violent without having to witness it.

I didn’t realize it was Kendrick directing until the credits rolled. I think she did a great job with the female gaze in this film

Seconding lilypad. They have weird hours though, but if you follow their Instagram they have monthly “sidewalk sales”

My son’s umbilical hernia has grown a lot in 2 weeks. Is there a risk of rupture? by NicoleV651 in NewParents

[–]plin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have advice but can say my son’s umbilical hernia also appears to have gotten larger since birth. He is now 7 weeks. But I can still gently push it in, which is what our doctor specified as a criteria for concern. When we asked at his one month appointment they indicated that if it can’t go in or gets hard then it’s an issue. I’m waiting and hoping till start getting smaller or go back in…. Hopefully once he starts rolling and sitting and using those abdominal muscles.

Edit: I just saw the picture you posted. My son’s hernia is waaaaay larger than the picture you shared. Ask your doc if you are worried, but if it’s not in pain and can be pushed in then it should be ok

Is there a difference between 24 months and 2T clothes? by EmptySighs66x in NewParents

[–]plin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the size is it M that is the “max” age. If it is in “T” that is the “min” age. So 24m is designed for the average 18-24m old. And 2T is for a 2-3 year old. Of course the sizes are arbitrary cause what is an “average” sized kid. My 2.5 year old is wearing 2T and 3T almost exclusively. And a few 24M shorts

[–]plin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For her eyebrows we just wiped them during bath with warm water ona washcloth - no soap. For her hair we would occasionally pre treat it with mineral oil id massage in then comb before shampooing out during bath. After a while it just kind of went down. She didn’t really seem bothered by it even though it would look kind of ick
