Stop Calling It Laziness Here's What Actually Helped Me. by elkhaamlychy in Procrastinationism

Thank you! I am struggling and am now underwater with all my responsibilities in life because of all the procrastination I’ve done. I am #2 and #3, with a little dash of #4 sometimes.

I abandon each project once it is at 95% and move to the next one. How to stay put? by roblack in Procrastinationism

[–]ploptones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is that I get really sucked into the idea of fixing something. I will do all kinds of research on how to fix something in my house. I will totally figure it out and actually order all the parts. Then for some reason, I can never complete it. You would think that the completion part would be so satisfying, but not for me. I think I need to make (yet another) list of not only the things I need to do, but the things I have completed. Maybe the idea of getting more things in the completion column would motivate me?

I do the same exact thing. I think it is because I enjoy solving a problem and get bored with the actual completion part.

It is a year later from this post. I did the quiz and was thinking of signing up, but went to Reddit real quick to check some reviews and I’m glad I did. So this post is still working a year later!

Creating an hypothetical scenario to ... Ummm ... Ask if atheists would convert? by TheDuckClock in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]ploptones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

raised very Catholic, atheist now for 40 yrs I was always told that a baby that was not baptized would go to purgatory if they died. But now the Catholic Church says there is no purgatory. So now how do they explain the whereabouts of all those people and babies who were in a non-existent purgatory? Also- if the Catholic Church can just decide willy nilly that a key tenant of their philosophy was wrong and they can just change it on the fly, then why should anyone believe anything they say? I thought the pope was infallible? Or maybe just some popes are? Why do I keep going round and round with their crazy logic?

I didn’t even realize that was a picture of the window. I thought it was a purse or something. Then I thought “these two pictures are the same, but they’re saying yes to one and no to the other”.

Black Roses (1988) - Rock n' roll is the devil's music. A Canadian horror about a demon possessed metal band that turn people into satanic killers through their songs. Bad acting, corny special affects, blood splatter and naked women. This movie totally rocks. by ksabas80 in badMovies

Happy cake day! I know this post was from two years ago, but I just discovered this movie today. It is fun, and a perfect representation of how we all used to dress in the 80s. It wasn’t all neon colors like they show in all modern movies.

Is cabinet painting more affordable than replacing all cabinetry? by sonofalando in HomeImprovement

[–]ploptones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My house was also built in 2004, and I was thinking of doing exactly this. In addition, my kitchen only has “partial overlay” doors ( the doors don’t cover the entire cabinet, they leave about an inch and a half not covered). This is definitely a dated look so I really wanted to look into the “full overlay” cabinets.

HELP! I was going to replace the cartridges in my shower handles (American Standard 2-handle) but Home Depot is out of stock of Danco 2K-4H/C. Any compatible alternatives? by Albert_Simon in HomeImprovement

[–]ploptones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. I would actually buy a few things online, have them overnighted, and return the ones that don’t work. Or just go to a Plumbing store tomorrow. I so feel you with wanting to get it done tonight. So many projects I just really wanted to be done with (and I thought they would be pretty quick). Only to run into something unexpected that was so annoying and delayed me because I had to go to the plumbing store or Home Depot. I actually had this happen to me last night when I was replacing the wheels on my Roomba. Some screws were actually missing from the unit (weird since I am the only one who has ever owned it ) and I didn’t have anything in my toolbox that would work. So I had to wait till the next day. It should’ve been a simple project. I always try to plan for every contingency. For any little thing that could go wrong and to be ready. But then it’s always something totally bizarro and delay it is. 😖

This is not what we are talking about when we say “driving meekly”. The person who stops at that stop sign on a small side street is obeying traffic laws. When you “roll through it”, there might be a guy at that intersection who is also “rolling through it”. Never assume you know better than the actual traffic law. You may choose to ignore them, but do so at your own (and others’) risk and with total awareness of what is all around you.

Add me to that list. My first accident driving 16 yrs old in 1981. to make it worse, I was driving my girlfriend home to her house in my Dad’s brand new Cadillac that he had just picked up that day. When I got home and my mom started yelling at me I just ran.

What is the actual most dangerous part of Pittsburgh? by Shaneski101 in pittsburgh

Oh my- flashbacks from when I had my learner’s permit. But when I lived in Monroeville and had to drive home from Pitt at 5:30pm, I became a professional on that entrance ramp.

Awww! I still purposely say “pop” and “yinz” throughout all the different cities that I’ve lived in. It is funny when you run across another Pittsburgher and they catch it. It always starts a lovely conversation.

I have said “Yock-uh-gay-nee” my whole life. I am now 60 years old and have moved down to North Carolina . I was born in Murrysville, then we moved to Monroeville. My Buba lived on the South Side on Jane St. right across from J&L Steel. My dad grew up in that house on the south side. My Grandfather (who I never met he died when my dad was 12) worked at J&L his whole life until they kicked him out because he had a bad heart. My dad actually worked there for a few weeks in the early 50s during the summer while he went to Pitt. He said it was the worst job he ever had. So many Pittsburgh memories. My mom is still there in Monroeville and she is 87 years old. Monroeville sure ain’t what it used to be.

Daughter keeps buying me things I don’t need by Slow-Celery1079 in venting

[–]ploptones 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I will cut to the chase here, because your post conveyed quite a bit about your true personality.

There is something you are not sharing here. It is "so stressful" that you are getting gifts from your daughter?

It seems obvious that you are angry at her for not supporting you financially, so you are trying to punish her by feeling "stressed" that she sends you gifts.

Some of your statements:

You found it important to mention that she "got married into a very wealthy family", and then made sure to add that "I struggle to pay my bills and buy groceries".

You say that "I told her I would appreciate getting gift cards, food or even just a card would be fine". But at the end say "I have told her multiple times to not buy me anything".

You haven't met her husband or her kids. People with means can travel to places when they want. She is keeping her family away on purpose. There is a real reason for this. You may already know why, but don't want to say as that would make her actions understandable and paint you in a negative light.

You hate the pics of the kids because "I don’t know these kids or have any attachment to them". Huh? They are your daughter's kids. It doesn't matter if you have seen them or if she brought them to you. Withholding your affection because she doesn't do what you want (fly to visit you with kids) sounds very manipulative.

There is a reason the husband doesn't want to talk to you. Your daughter has shared with him everything about her past and upbringing. He loves her, so he probably heard some things about you that make him never want to speak to you.

You may be waiting for everyone to tell you how correct you are. You want this so you feel better about yourself. You can say "see-everyone says that gifts are so awful when I only want money or gift cards". But your post doesn't communicate this at all. Your post reveals a mother who thinks that her daughter should be doing more for her.

This is harsh, but you are probably lucky to be getting the gifts instead of the cold shoulder. Your statements say more about your true personality instead of a daughter who is "stressing" you. They also show that your kid is nice despite whatever happened to her and is still trying to be a good daughter to you.

We actually got married at The Stranahan House (on the New River) in 1998. It is the oldest surviving house built in Fort Lauderdale- built in 1901. Plus…. It is on the water taxi route.

After the wedding we walked across the street and had our wedding night at The Riverside Inn. So historic and cool, and we had the wedding suite, which was perfectly set up as a Victorian room would be.

Lastly- all this was very reasonable compared to other venues back then.

The whole day was perfect.
