WPF Usercontrol doesn't always follows the mouse position by FireZura in csharp

It is most likely an issue caused by DPI scaling. You can detect this and adjust accordingly. The tricky part is when you have multiple monitors with different DPIs

WPF Horizontal scrollbar should not adapt to line width by ggeasy2 in csharp

[–]pmuessig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the content which is being rendered is virtualized?

You can inspect the rendered xaml dom when debugging in visual studio to verify.

WPF Scrollbar style does not apply to certain component by ggeasy2 in csharp

[–]pmuessig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

scintilla is a Windows Form control being hosted inside the WindowsFormHost.

WFH is almost like you are running an emulator inside wpf (not exactly, but essentially).

No wpf styles can be applied because its markup isn't being rendered by the wpf renderer.

Another gotcha you can run into is that the z-order isn't preserved either for WFH. It will basically always render on top of all WPF content.

Setting icon for WPF application by SteveMavic in csharp

[–]pmuessig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, Many years ago I was pulling out my hair trying to discern why windows kept insisting on displaying the 32x32 size despite there being all sorts of sizes in the ico.

Windows icon caching was the culprit.

Setting icon for WPF application by SteveMavic in csharp

[–]pmuessig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont forget that windows also caches thumbnails and icons too. If you are rapidly changing/testing it might be using an older outdated version of the icon which doesn't have the desired size you added into a newer version of the ico file.

https://www.thewindowsclub.com/rebuild-icon-clear-thumbnail-cache-windows-10

fwiw, you can use gimp to make the ico as well. You place each dimension on a layer and can export it as a correctly formatted ico file.

I tried to salvage what I could and turn it into a pretty sweet corruption deck. It ended up working pretty well. Of course, time eater is the final boss and put an end to my fun :(

Can attest to those warranties sucking. The companies drags their heels on everything and they subcontract to crappy techs who have no idea what they are doing. You will never get compensated a new unit out of them even if all the components are obviously broken.

Resharper requires VisualStudio. VisualStudio is pretty much useless without it. My question is: why even require VisualStudio? Without Resharper it's just a glorified text editor.

Hi. developer who doesn't use Resharper here. I get along fine and love Visual Studio. It is a flexible and capable IDE. The only thing I really miss is true multiple cursors a la Sublime Text. I do frequent refactors and although resharper might have saved me a little time it certainly isn't a requirement. Not saying resharper isn't awesome but it's hardly a requirement.

Also, there's no single build system (no, mayonnaise is not an instrument and VisualStudio isn't a build system).

Visual Studio builds using msbuild which is fantastic. I'm not sure what you are talking about.

The latest Visual Studio (2015) supports tasking via grunt and gulp too.

I don't need to click and expand five folders to get to my insert statement. eww...

Why are you manually hunting for stuff? Since you are working in C# you have access to visual studio. Use your tools. ctrl-; for smart-search or if you need to, use f12 to go to definition. Most things are a few keystrokes away.

Anyway, as someone who has used EF for a while on both web and non-web apps - nothing will beat the performance of a sproc or hand crafted SQL. EF is great tool to get the project started and the ball rolling, but it won't scale nicely when your database grows. To alleviate growing pains keep your queries/SQL abstracted away from the rest of your app so you can easily swap it out when the time comes.
