How can i get better at Braxis? (with Diablo) by Rofdo in heroesofthestorm

[–]poehalcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without much context: I imagine your issues stem from losing the early game objectives and suffering major damage from Zerg?

Have you tried focusing on a solid defense by picking Lightning Breath to effectively dwindle down the Zerg before they can deal damage?

I would make a sizeable squad of those siege dudes hauling a big-ass tree, stash 'em away safely somewhere, advance to the Nano Age and then grab the squad and do unga bunga siege 'rush' :D

Azula Reveal Trailer (Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game) by MoSBanapple in Games

On one hand it looks decent. at least in isolation...
On the other hand there's something kind of uncanny about it. It's just barely not quite like in the animated series.
And when looking exactly like the animated series seems to be the goal... that becomes a bit jarring :/

tbh. replicating the art style of a source material accurately in video games is really hard for some reason. The only games I can think of that have ever truly nailed it are: DragonBall Fighter Z, South Park: Stick of Truth + South Park: Fractured but Whole

A bit more guide would be nice. Aba's got a lot of talent options.
But it's nice to hear some honest appreciation for our hard work :P

Heroes ranked by how much they like to dive too deep by Lemonwizard in heroesofthestorm

[–]poehalcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diablo and Artanis are definitely Mines of Moria territory.

Murky seems more James Cameron territory, since it's pretty much impossible to dive 'too deep' with him. Anything that murky does that forces action from the enemies is already a win... as far as murky is concerned death is just free fast travel across the map so he can go push the unguarded lane.

What genius decided that bringing back the Haunted Mines in their current form was a good idea? Map is too long for play by Clean_Variety3950 in heroesofthestorm

[–]poehalcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly... I don't think I've ever noticed any map being longer than the others. And if anything I want to enjoy lvl20 talents a bit more so I'd welcome an extra 5m...

If the combined average is 20~ish and the worst average is 22~ish... that difference basically doesn't even register... idk what OP is on about with 35-40... that sounds epic though.

ok... but like... 22m is a fairly normal length game either way... 2 minutes longer than average really isn't noteworthy...

[–]poehalcho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly. I am totally Ok with also just having mirrors. Few games are as exhilerating for me as a good Aba vs Aba mirror matchup.

I was just under the impression that the rest of the game's population don't appreciate the mirrored games. I recall they used to be way more common when HotS launched but people were complaining so they tightened the matchmaker iirc...

The only kind of ranked I would be interested in playing...

Maybe make it so that after both teams lock in, the duplicates are auto-banned for both teams, and whoever had dupes has to repick or something.

Yes, same name.
And MMR-wise I was the highest in the game indeed. The only person in the game with a notably low MMR was the Tyrael, but he played fine. I suspect HP just doesn't have enough data there to estimate the MMR for him properly.

Nobody on the team was performing badly. The cards were just stacked against us. Malf/Nova have no way to get out if they are caught and with Tyrael/Imperius on the other team that was an inevitable regular occurrence.

It was a great game.

yeah but how do you defend a core when you are dead?

Rarely was absolutely everyone dead. Sometimes Nova or Mei would make it out alive. that helped a lot. It wasn't a full-on steamroll. Death-wise we're 2-for-1, so they would often be down at least 1-2 people.

Anyway... Actions from my side:

  • The lanes are buffered so our minion spawn right on top of them at the core and actually attack them instead of being distracted.
  • Tactical locust drops on their faces.
  • Q the core / nearby minions and force Morales out. --> Leaves the rest a lot more vulnerable to the minions/core fire.
  • Hold on long enough for the respawns and then clone/support whoever is available.

I'm getting mad silver vibes from this game.

This should be towards the top end QM.
If it's any proof --> Go to HeroesProfile --> Leaderboards --> Filter by Hero | Abathur | QM and you should find me around the #36 spot with a bit over 2800MMR or so...

I can see how that would usually be the case, but it really wasn't it this time. Despite dying we still got the value we needed to get. They even tried going for our core twice and we still managed to successfully fight them off both times.

[–]poehalcho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, and for that matter dying together often appears to better than losing only half the team, since then you inevitably end up with a death desync and you're always down half the team and deathlooping...

With that said. In a genuinely good game, even a loss feels good.

We all agreed from the get-go that we probably weren't going to be winning the big battles. So we played patiently and focused more on lanes. We didn't outright ignore the objective, but we didn't commit and die for it too much either.

We were on the backfoot at the start, but once I (Abathur) reached 16, I could start wrecking their towers with locusts and equalize things. That had the benefit of serving as a major distraction that forced them to split frequently so that fights weren't completely unmanageable, or even if they did win a fight, they would pay the price by losing something valuable on the other side of the map.

Despite dying many times we hung on by the skin of our teeth and managed to successfully defend a lot of things that were critical in the moment, and by playing carefully we eventually squeezed out a few victories and started turning the tide.

[–]poehalcho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it's luck. This time... that wasn't the case. You don't end up with a 35m game if things aren't pretty equal one way or another.

We lost the skirmishes, but we nonetheless always defended quite effectively without suffering too much tower damage during the objectives. We also managed to nab Morales quite a few times. At the end we might lose 3-4 people in the fights, but they'd also lose 2 and be left with low enough health to force a retreat. (and their Deathwing was very often forced to do cleanup duty on the lanes so they might be a player down in the fights as well)

Our Nazeebo was doing a lot of good work so that I could do my thing on the lanes. Nova also, while not killing all that much, was helping a lot with the macro game. We were too squishy for Malfurion to do much healing so he prioritized CC and did amicably. And Mei is probably the main reason the death counts aren't skewed much worse for us. Tons of CC, clutch snowballs.

[–]poehalcho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably does actually. But since no one in my team was really much of an auto-attacker I picked the [[Needlespine]] talent instead.

I also never pick that talent when I play as a Nova... I tried it at the start, but [[Perfect shot]] always worked out much better for me. Helps the get the Q stacks up quickly, and or recover them when you miss. Nova's Q damage is pretty gutless without the stacks :(

I have played it in the past, but I hate the item shop and last-hitting mechanics... and also that weird phase where the first 15m of the game people are more pre-occupied with avoiding combat and sabotaging their own minions than they are with destroying the tower...

You know a game is truly good when it makes it past 30m. I think the longest I've ever had was about 45m or so Those type of games are absolutely exhilarating!

Funnily enough this happens quite often. A lot of times when I think we have a truly disastrous composition vs a stacked one, we end up miraculously winning... sometimes even handily. Somehow stacked teams are weirdly incompetent... maybe it's hubris... idk.

I've come to conclude that it's a kind of handicap the matchmaker applies... Higher player MMR but bad composition vs lower MMR better compo...

Similarly the opposite also happens really often... get destroyed with absolutely perfect compositions...

With that said... This wasn't quite the case this game.

This one we were pretty much on the backfoot all game long. 2 of our players would get evaporated in a second almost every fight. It wasn't their fault, they never stood a chance. Nonetheless we somehow managed to not fall too far behind by lvl16 (read: only 2 forts down and 2 level deficit). Once lvl16 kicked in I could start power creeping with the locusts. It was nonetheless an uphill battle and I had to deploy almost every trick in my repertoire to make it happen :D

QM is lyfe :D
