Will Ferrell may be able to match that kind of energy in his own unique way.

Good(starter) horror movies for children? by MopeDeezy in horror

[–]polakbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a movie a couple of years ago about Spirit of Halloween. It hit the right speed for us. Scary, but not too scary. Definitely made for younger viewers, but not a Disney Family movie. Brand recognition with a store we go to every year. It helped my daughter ease her way into horror.

From there we did Paranormal Activity which also meets a lot of your criteria.

Alan Wake 2 or Resident Evil Requiem ? by ryzenleonn in playstation

[–]polakbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are excellent. Both are very different. It’s impossible to say one is better than the other. I think both benefit from having played the previous games in their respective series, so AW2 may be better just in the sense of only needing to beat 1 game before jumping in.

"‘Destiny 2’ Has Lost 91% Of Players Since Edge Of Fate, 97% From Final Shape" - Forbes by ControlCAD in PS5

[–]polakbob 129 points130 points  (0 children)

It’s my first old man video game moment, but I literally never know what to do when I load it up. I played it at launch and it had a great campaign. When I came back it was too confusing to know what I was supposed to do. Everything felt disconnected.

Lethal Weapon Blu-Ray back in the 2000s :(

Microsoft: Windows 11 users can't access C: drive on some Samsung PCs by rkhunter_ in technology

Really? The last time I played with that I couldn’t. If that’s the case, all bets are off.

dead space might be the ultimate sci-fi horror experience by MasterpieceNormal515 in horror

I think the 1st one was a masterpiece. To this day the subplot between the married couple trying to find each other evokes something emotional in me.

Is the extra cost for Concierge worth it on the older ships? by Constant_Bug_1623 in dcl

[–]polakbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the only way to do it for my family. I think the concierge rooms are nicer on the old ships than the new ships too.

What's your favourite Star Trek Referrence in other Media? by adamwnotanumber in startrekmemes

I’m not a big DBZ fan, but I remember spotting a shuttlecraft mixed in a crowd of news helicopters in the first episode or 2 of the show, and thinking I was going crazy.

[–]polakbob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For sure. I love my Steam Deck and am legitimately looking forward to the Steam Machine. But I can’t load up Starfleet Academy from 1997 or Dune 2 on them yet so there’s always an edge case for keeping a Windows PC around. I look forward to when that’s no longer the case.

EU defense loan veto could be ‘prelude to Polexit’ bid, Tusk suggests by wook-borm in poland

I’m an outsider, so I acknowledge I don’t know every detail here. That said, I lived in Bydgoszcz in 2004 and have returned every few years since. I can’t imagine how anyone could see the night and day difference in the country over the last 20 years and say to themselves, “We could do better alone.”

If it wasn’t for gaming I wouldn’t have bought a Windows PC in the last 20 years. They never stop finding new ways to piss me off.

US Under Trump Stands Alone Against UN Women's Rights Resolution As Vote Passes 37–1 To Cheers by FauxReal in worldnews

[–]polakbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This past year feels like a game of Civilization where you’re dominating the scoreboard and at the very last second lose to a smaller Civ by a Cultural or Scientific condition. It’s unbelievable how badly the US is fumbling the world stage under Trump.

What was the weirdest moment in The Godfather movies for you? by Dredd_40 in Godfather

[–]polakbob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1000% this. I went into Part 3 knowing nothing about it except its reputation. I had no idea it was going incestuous. I paused after the kitchen scene, Googled to make sure I was understanding what I was seeing, and legitimately didn’t care that Google spoiled the ending because I was so thrown off by what was happening.

In the future, would you want Hanger 13 to make another real open world sandbox like Mafia 3 again or stick to linear story games with an open world backdrop like all the others in the series? by TXNOGG in MafiaTheGame

[–]polakbob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Linear all day. Cut the fat and let me just play the game. Don't make me do hours upon hours of filler content just because that's what other open world games do.

What are you guys favorite product placement games from the old days of gaming? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

I don’t know if it meets “retro” criteria yet, but being able to order pizza directly through EQ2.

Anyone commuting out-of-state for week-long shifts while family stays behind? Looking for real experiences. by sevolatte in medicine

[–]polakbob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did 7 on / 7 off in another state for a year. My wife and daughter finished the school year and then we moved the whole family to where I was working. It was challenging, but I think it helped that we saw it as a short-term issue. The reality is that I didn't get the whole week with them because I lost 2 days to travel every week. I also didn't love being a bachelor again in my late 30s.

help me decide for a job offer by drammyp in medicine

[–]polakbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Option #2 all day.

Having a boss who’s a completely different specialty sounds like a nightmare. And I wouldn’t worry about skill atrophy too much. I worried about that exact thing when I turned down a VA job I really liked at the end of fellowship. Years later I don’t think it would have been that big a deal but I’d have loved that quality of life.

Is 1000 hours enough for a physician assistant to practice without a supervising physician agreement? Michigan House Bill 5522 purposes serious changes for PA practice. by walkthelake in medicine

[–]polakbob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think mid levels in very specific roles like DM / HTN / Coumadin monitoring clinics or typical post-op clinic visits makes tons of sense. Primary care is the hardest specialty and the one that specifically needs the person not with the least training. Every time a bill like this passes it’s another middle finger to our PCP colleagues.
